Nice job! I have this kit. My wife bought it for me probably 35-40 years ago. I'm getting back into modeling now that I'm retired and looking forward to pulling this from the stash.
We’ll get to it there skippy doodle. I’m fairly new to the hobby myself, in the plastic and brass, and age of dreadnought but still. Love this hobby such a great community too, for the most part. Very helpful blokes with the new trends.
Excellent work! I have not worked in wood in years. Do you ever find any problems using acrylic paint on wood? No need for a clear coat of wood sealer?
I live next to Portsmouth where the Victory is and have been on it a few times, this really has got the look of it. And yes the decks really are that low inside.
Manufacture of these sets and the subsequent construction by hobbyists is a a marvel and a tribute to the design and construction of the original ships. I didn't think there would be so much initiative that you would have to apply to the set.
I love your work sir. You are a true artist!! Moreover you have inspired me to create my own ship models. Please continue to add more inspirational videos to your library.
I'm currently focused on machining and building functional miniature machine tools, but have had a lifetime admiration of the rigging on these old ships. Your model is a reflection of your skill and passion. Well done. You should be proud and keep it in a sealed glass case. New sub here.
Wow, Thank you, Joe. I am planning to machine my own metal parts in the future. But, I will need a workshop and all the big toys first :P. Your videos are so valuable and helpful!
You sir are extremely skilled & patient to not only build a model like this but to document it as well as you have for all of us to enjoy. Content like this gives me hope for humanity.
Sweet! I bet any sailing museum would love to display that. You have way more patience than I. I would not have been able to do the rigging. Keep up the excellent work sir.
What an amazing build on the cross section I was very impressed at all of the techniques you used in putting this model together, well done. I visited the HMS Victory when I was working down in Portsmouth in the early 1990s and finished the job I was on early, with another night booked at the hotel I had nothing to do so went on the HMS Victory tour. It is a very impressive ship to walk around with me being tall those lower decks I had to bend over due to the height between the decks being so narrow. It is a shame the upper masts have been removed and the ship is actually crumbling under its own weight. I wish I had had a camera back then they would have been some amazing pictures.
Not sure, but the majority of the planking looked like Sapele and not Walnut, like one I built as a late teenager. Awesome to see how this 40+ year old kit still shines under a master's careful and practiced hand. Hat's off to you, sir! Built my first wooden ship model back in the mid-late '90s: Artesania-Latina Bluenose II. Completely appreciate the effort and attention to detail models like this take. Respect, my dude!
Well done, I did a 1:225 scale model of the Victory back in the day & it took me months & I didn't do much knot work at all so that was just a pleasure to watch, cheers.
Brilliant work, I grew up in Portsmouth with this colour scheme but the victory now sports a pink and black scheme, apparently correct for her appearance at Trafalgar.
This is a beautiful model. Thank you for sharing. It's been a decade since I've built a model ship, and after trying woodworking for several years, I think I'm going to order this model today.
That was one of the coolest models and best model building videos I've watched. You did an outstanding job, sir! I'm now going into your library to watch more. Thank you for uploading. I look forward to seeing what new stuff you find to turn into a work of art.
I remember visiting this as a small child. I have a very specific memory of looking at the sea and wondering if there were any whales. This video reminded me of that for some reason lol.
This was very satisfying to watch. I visited the HMS Victory with my in-laws on a family vacation last month. The audio tour covered a lot more detail than you went into, but everything you mentioned just brought more of the details to mind, which just enhanced my watching of this video. The kit turned out beautifully, and the video was excellent.
*I HAD THIS EXACT KIT* I bought it in about 1991 and 10 years later I was about 3/4 finished and I lost it in a house move - I had put SO much work in, I'm still devastated about it...
Beautifull craftsmanship. One of the intriguing things about trying to build ship models of old is learning about all the parts and their functions as you build. Seems like you could do real ship rigging after this.
This really is a nice cutaway view, I never seen one like this and it sure shows allot. I can think of endless ship models but this one is really unique and interesting. I would be cool if the entire ship was done like this in sections for the full display, but the hours to do that would be immense. Thanks for sharing this great model.
I bought this model about 20 years ago and never finished it, it's moved house with me 3 times, i think it's time to get it out again, this video will help me for sure, Thank you.
Very well done. An unusual model but interesting. I recognise the part of the ship modelled, I have stood there many times as man and boy, being from the Portsmouth area. Have you been able to visit HMS Victory? If not, then I hope you do get to one day, it is a truly amazing experience. There is also the remains of the Mary Rose and HMS Warrior (Iron clad steam ship) at Portsmouth Historic Dockyard.
Such a skillful build. I've been watching a long series of RU-vid videos where a team of boat builders have been totally rebuilding a wooden sailing yacht called Tally Ho, so this video came along after I learned a lot of new stuff about planking and rigging and all of the other technical aspects of wooden boat building. If you haven't seen it already I recommend you check out the Sampson Boat Company and the tally Ho build.
Your voice is so much better than that ai annoying voice. Unfortunately I cannot watch the others videos due to that reason. Great channel, looking forward to more interesting builds with you 🙏
