@@isopropyltoxicity Exactly bro. Bands from back in the days didn't have much to assist them in making a perfect sounding recording/song, it was all up to them and their talents primarily. Back then you wanted to minimize song takes/performances on analog tape, when recording technology was harder to correct mistakes. Musicians just kinda had to be good out of necessity back then.
i used to laugh at my kids for watching videos of people playing video games. It made no sense to me until i started watching reactions to songs. This guy makes me giddy just watching his reaction to this album. He is reacting the same way i have for almost 40 years. The only difference is i can't see his goosebumps. Thanks man. I look forward to your reactions to other songs i love.
Tone deaf due to overly compressed MP3's, shitty iPhone audio and ear buds. They dont understand soundstage, dynamics and spacial or quadrophonic sound these days.
Lol, as far as Priest is concerned, all of us spittin out the names of different songs would probably be better served throwing out LP titles instead...
@@whatchutalkinbout yup, I agree. Freewill Burning is another one that you could argue that the live version from the double LP is better than the studio version... although the studio version is pretty damn good, lol.
I'm the lunatic who was screaming for this song on every reaction, but specifically only off Unleashed in the East. Some Twitter goob probably just said Victim of Changes and he went with it. Damn shame. Beyond the Realms of Death was great on the studio, but questionable depending on which live version chosen. I agree Freewheel Burning live off the Fuel for Life tour is amazing!
When you already know the song because you listened it like 100k times, and you only can think "take a chair my friend, because this only gets better and better and better"... just wait for the end, and play again the song! Greats from Argentina 💗🇦🇷😘
Think about it like this, Judas Priest's first album came out in 1974. This album was from 1976. Painkiller was from 1990, and I think their 12th studio album.
Seriously, if someone is trying introduce Judas Priest to new fans, using Painkiller as the first song, I advise you not to get music recommendations from them.
@@MrRudeboy212 true, i never understood why people always suggest the heavy stuff that is more of an aquired taste to introduce others to metal. If i had to pick a priest song if you are listening for the first time, i would probably go with something like "the sentinel" or "youve got another thing coming".
@@b0nez_ Rapid Fire is a good heavy song that still has clean vocals, Beyond the Realms of Death is another great song that has that epic classic rock sound like Victims of Changes.
In my opinion this is the album where they found their sound - and it’s only their second album. Glenn and KK on guitar and Robs lyrics and vocals…man. Don’t forget the most underrated bass player of all time, Ian Hill.
Bro, your review made me cry, I've been listening to that album since 9th grade in 1979. Best review ever in the entire world, will never be topped. I applause you.
Brilliant call. Shocked that hasn't been in the queue yet. It would be ideal if reaction vids started with a song or two from the band's first album and went forward in chronology. This would truly allow one to understand how the band actually evolved or changed over time and often shows how the metal genre changed décade over décade as well. Some were leaders, many were followers.
Yeah, you just busted into the Metal Vault and retrieved one of the true treasures of the metal world. This was Rob Halford in his hey-day just killing it. If you were gonna review just one Priest album....this is the one. Something to consider. Loved your reaction!
@@maxotto9877 how have I never heard this? If that's the question, I don't know. Although I used to do a shit ton of drugs so maybe I have and don't remember. 😂
I honestly dont care what you react to... you are PRICELESS. Soon bands are gonna notice how real you are. There are thousands of songs I could suggest, but youre too damn real man. Your reaction to Mariner from Maiden shouldve have summed it. But man, now for me? I cant watch my favorite songs with wishing I could see your reaction. Youre just simply true.
My guy you gotta check out the Green Manalishi and The Sentinel. Judas at its best! By the way Preston, this was Judas's early style. Painkiller was from 1990, where they took a thrash metal route. If you love this early style, you should definitely check out Run of the Mill off the Rocka Rolla album. Super underrated!
The Green Manalishi was originally a Fleetwood Mac song, as good as Priest's version is, it's not as good as the original imho. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-SLyFuD89Wxk.html
I first heard "Victim of Changes" at the age of 18 in 1976. It has remained my favorite song for 42 years. It just blows my mind that after all this time, a young man can be just as blown away as I was so very long ago.
Yes ... Is this weird or what we are sitting there at the edge of our seats rooting for him like he's carrying a football in a hundred yard run to a touchdown all of his videos but this one in particular because it is perfect in every sense of the word the song the reaction the experience
This and Beyond the Realms of Death to me are the best Judas Priest songs hands down ever written. Enjoy your knowledge and opinions on all music and how we all can learn about what makes the world a little better like Great music.
@@rohantiwari7801 Same could be said for the majority of bands who debuted as bands in the 60's and 70's. The 80's was an era of excess and less soulful....well, everything. It was less blues and soul riffs. I'd say the same happened all across the board in media, politics, ect...
Painkiller was 90, Firepower was 2018, Victim is 76. Now, you GOTTA do The Sentinel (preferrably live version). Then you'll have the idea of their 80s style.
This video made my day. This is one of the must underrated Judas albums, yet my favorite. I was at the edge of my seat waiting for you to hear those high notes!
Pres... bro... do yourself a favor and listen to the live version of Victim of Changes from the Unleashed in the East (Live in Japan) album. They stay true to the original tune but kick it up a whole lotta notches! I fell in love with this music back in the early 80's. Much respect to you for your honest reactions to songs I've been listening to for almost 40 years. Keep the Faith!
Songs such as this are the reason Judas Priest, and Rob Halford, specifically, are considered Metal royalty.. along with Ronnie James Dio, Ozzy Osbourne, and Iron Maiden/Bruce Dickinson. The best of the best.. the trailblazers.. and the torchbearers for our favorite genre of music. Total respect, admiration, and appreciation for all they have done. Peace
Played this song for my non-metal loving wife the other day. That last guttural scream at the end, before the final "NO NO NO" gave her goosebumps, put tears in her eyes and made her heart race so much it took her a few minutes to get over it. She'll never be a Priest fan, but she LOVES this song!! I'm surprised the reviewer didn't comment on it. The rage and pain! Not only good singing, but good acting as well! Anyone who's ever had love lost to booze or drugs can relate!
OH HELL YEAH!!! RJD is the only voice in all of Rock much less Metal that can hang with Rob Halford. I love Ronnie and his music very, very much. I would love to see Preston do Heaven and Hell by Black Sabbath for a starter then see what he thinks LOL!!!! Hell any song from Holy Diver or The Last in Line would melt his mind!
That's classic rock! They did things differently and a lot more organically back then. And I completely agree. Flawless performance in every conceivable way. Your reaction is spot on. I know exactly where you're coming from. That's the reaction it's supposed to get no matter what year it is. By the way, great program. You're teaching appreciation and we need more of that in the world. God bless you for that.
This song is KILLER!!! His voice is amazing!! Still get goose bumps listening to it!! Anyone notice songs from back in the day are 5-8 minutes compared to your radio 3 min songs now? Imagine playing those in concert!!
This is an epic song that does a great job showing off Halford's impressive range. As awesome as Painkiller is, Sad Wings of Destiny is the best Judas Priest album for me. The whole album kills.
"...kind of getting a Jimi Hendrix 'Voodoo Child' vibe " . KK Downing is a huuuuge Hendrix fan. In his book he actually talks about Hendrix extensively and even says that after seeing Hendrix live for the first time he was inspired to buy his first guitar. I think he ended up seeing Hendrix like 5 or 6 times before he died. He even mentions stealing one of Hendrix's fuzz pedals at one point, and it's also the reason he loved the Gibson flying V's so much. So, nailed it - early Priest is pretty heavily Hendrix influence for sure.
JP - from the Album "Defenders of the Faith" --Love Bites, The Sentinel, Free Wheel Burning or Jaw Breaker you won't be disappointed with any of these.
To me every JP album is special, and just the best Metal has yo offer. Megadeth is the only band that can truly rival their skills and ability to write a masterpiece of art.
@ TruthandjusticeXXL YES YES YES ! ! As a phenomenal deep track from the album "Ram it Down", it can't be beat ! A perfect showcase of Rob Halford's vocal range. But if you want hard and heavy, like "Painkiller" then I'd also suggest "Hard as Iron" from "Ram it Down" as well.
I remember my dad play Judas Priest songs on cassete player, they become my favour band beside Black Sabbath, but that sound on Victim of Changes so many emotions dude...❤
The studio version of VOC is great and all, but the live version is hands down the greatest version of this song. It just fires off on all cylinders on Unleashed in the East
Electric Eye is a really great song by them that is famous. But it's kind of basic compared to a lot of their shit. We're trying to blow this guys mind so we should pick something a little better.
sbinreal mcironcock The Hellion/Electric Eye is a perfect portrayal of 80s Priest. But he could do The Sentinel or Battle Hymn/One Shot At Glory instead. Or for 70s stuff, Here Come The Tears or Sinner might be good.
Bolgar i have to agree. I grew up listening to Maiden but i have to give the nod to Judas Priest mostly based on the merits of this one song. It's that fuckin good and is much superior to anything Iron Maiden has.
Dude: You F#king KILL ME👍🏼 I love watching you react to the music I grew up with!!! I “TRY” to turn my friends onto ur page allllllllll the time!!! Thanx for your enthusiasm!!! 🎶🎶🎶🎶🎶🎶🎶🎶🎶
You got it backwards. This album came out in 1976, 14 years before Painkiller. They did not slow down, they sped up. They adapted to the times better than any other metal band.
Just imagine being twelve years old when this came out and just pounding this in your parents basement. Good times. Youre reaction is the best, i can tell u genuinely enjoyed it. I get the same way with music too.
You have to put this into context , the 70's was a classic era for rock music with three bands with members or a complete line up from the midlands of the UK Birmingham all who shaped what become hard rock then Heavy metal Robert plant of Zeppelin , Black Sabbath and Judas Priest , all are legends all were around at the same time talk about hard competition. Priest did so much to define what Heavy rock would become through the 80's and beyond , the look the sound the over the top Spinal tap moments it's all there. They were doing early forms of speed metal long before thrash came out , they are the gods of Metal and should be worshiped as such.
Johndonson1 desert plains, electric eye, you don’t have to be old to be wise, heading out to the highway, evening star, green Manalishi with the two prong crown etc. etc. etc. soooo many
The Judas Priest timeline are what people are posting here. Yes, Victim of Changes is way older than Painkiller, hence the difference in sound. I highly back up what fans are saying about you checking out Beyond the Realms of Death. It's badass! I have been a fan since '76 and it's always fun to know when someone becomes a fan after all these years.
Seeing your reaction felt like I just rediscovered this song lmao!!!!! I've been listening to this since middle school and your reaction brought me back bro I needed that. Respect!!!
probably my favorite album Stained Class, Better by You, Better Than Me, Savage, Saints in Hell> I mean the whole album is fantastic. Sad wings of Destiny, Stained Class, Sin After Sin, Hell Bent For Leather, the absolute best albums in my opinion.
I'm so glad you're doing these Judas Priest songs. I've always enjoyed their music, but I'm really only familiar with their stuff that plays on the radio. But these songs are way better than any of their "hits".
I totally agree....I'm a die hard priest fan and if I never hear breaking the law again I couldn't care less. I hate that song along with living after midnight. Don't know what they were thinking making that garbage
I got hooked with the Maiden videos, but these are all fantastic. Thank you, good sir. These videos have restored my faith in humanity. It’s also impressive to watch someone listening to these jams for the first time, and so completely comprehending them!
That was a great reaction man. To see that you "get it" is awesome. The album version is good but the live version from the album Unleashed in the East I think most Priest fans would agree is the best. I think you would enjoy a lot of early Priest. Many great suggestions for more early priest below. I'll suggest Dreamer/Deciever. Thanks for this one!
Judas Priest "Beyond the Realms of Death" please! Killer song...song writing...vocals....topic/lyrics....and soulful awesome guitar solo. In fact, Kerry King of Slayer cites this as his fav guitar solo of all time....so you know it's worth checking out!!!
I'm a 48 year old Metal Head, I've been listening to this music since 1982. I've loved Priest for a long time. But, not until the internet did I find something by them I had never heard before...and b/c this is the internet you get to 'see' it as well. It's absolutely in my top 5 most amazing things I've seen from a singer (and even the band). It's a live, in studio/on tv gig. I think there are no overdubs, or corrections. I think everything you hear is true to the sound. So, the gig I am talking about is right before Sad Wings of Destiny came out. The song itself came out on the very album you're listening to now (Sad Wings...) but I think the gig itself was one year before.....Anyways... Type in your RU-vid browser: "Judas Priest Dreamer/Deceiver Old Grey Kettle Whistle" I promise you, if you love this style of his voice, you are absolutely going to be floored by what you see (and hear).....'guaranteed' ***EDIT.... Fuck it, I have the link right here. If anyone who knows Judas Priest but hasn't seen this.... Your time is now: Enjoy ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-Wvlq1F-X6Ko.html
Don't forget Breaking the Law, Grinder, Rapid Fire, Hell Bent for Leather, Saints in Hell, Exciter, Starbreaker, Jawbreaker, Hellrider, Genocide to name a few
“mourn for us oppressed in fear, chained and shackled we all bow, freedom choked, in dread we live since tyrant was enthroned!” has to be one of the all-time under-rated rock lyric moments
@AngryPostmanSthlm2 I can dig it. And although Rob did rerecord the vocals to some degree. {the vocals didn't record well enough initially} Just mind blowing. To have been in the audience during those two shows. Must have been fan friggin tastic
Someone pulled into Cactus Park in an old car when I was a teenager and was blasting the Unleashed version at the breakdown. I'd heard it a hundred times by then but the live version has always been my preferred.
