They're freaky looking arachnids, but they're actually incredibly harmless, timid, and caring creatures that are known to cuddle with their children in times of distress, and they're fairly easy to take care of. There's also jumping spiders, which are practically the house cats of arachnids.

Huntsman spiders are actually pretty awesome. I used to live under my parent's house as a teenager which was basically open to the backyard 24/7 and huntsman spiders would come and go as they pleased. There were a few creepy moments - like the time I had one the size of my hand crawl across my belly but other than that, they're pretty helpful. They will actively keep more poisonous spiders away from you.

They're only huntsmen. In Australia we keep them around the house cos they eat all the bugs like cockroaches and flies.
