I kind of feel like I'm doing this with my iPhone now with Monitor plus. Or, I guess with the Ronin transmission I kind of do this too. I really love Sony hardware with a passion, but their software.... yea.. there are improvement opportunities. I didn't see you really doing much active work during the video, so I'm not sure how responsive it is. You kind of click a button, then cut to the next scene before I can see. Maybe I'll head to the Sony store in Bangkok and give this a try.
Great review Jason, I bought the xperia 1iv for its streaming feature whish they had announced this update earlier would of bought the pro instead. Ive been using the A7iv and xperia 1iv and found when i go above 720p output from A7iv the xperia 1iv switches to phones internal mic rather then the cameras mic, have you had this issue in any of your use? Im also using a Z CAM IPMAN Gemini but have to switch to 30p, what ild found good about the xperia 1iv is it supports 25p streaming
This is a great update. Took them long enough, but better late than never I suppose. Wished these features had come to the Xperia 1 iv, as that camera can already do livestreaming.
I got the External monitor 3.0.A.0.32 the version on my xperia 1iv and installed it on my xperia 1iii and it works and added streaming, hopefully can do the same with this new version from the xperia pros when apk is available and add the new features. No reason why the camera control should be limited to the Pro! Just need a usb hub the Z CAM IPMAN Gemini has their own camera control its basicly a usb hub with hdmi input
I wonder what the battery-life of the phone would be hosting the 4K stream through the A7 Vs 4K recording on the phone itself. I've heard the phone overheats and can maintain for long.. 1080p would be enough tho for a stream..
For the Xperia 1 IV, you do not even need to connect to anything to overheat. Just try the pro video app for some decent 10+ recording and you are done!, The phone overheating issue is really bad. About to return mine now..
I can't figure out how to properly use the app with my Xperia Pro-I and the a7 mark 4 like maybe I am using the wrong cable? or maybe I am clicking the wrong thing when the thing appears on the cam?
I am desperately looking for a Xperia PRO. It seems no one has any. Just the PRO-I which lack the hdmi that works for the Sony A1. Any idea where to get one?
Hi Jason, Would you do a full review on all you can do with the phone? which HDMI cable would you recommend and do you know if does exist any protective case for the xperia pro Thanks!
Hi Jason. Thanks for this info. Awesome news. Hey I have a question, Of all the Xperia phones from the Xperia Pro/ Pro-i to the Xperia 1 iv. Which in your opinion is best for photo and video capture? Thanks
XPERIA 1 IV - I've been using it a lot while I'm in Switzerland right now. Has 16, 24, 85-125mm true optical + 120 fps capable for videos so easily a lot more variety in shots!
What cheap monitor would you recommend if the XPERIA ist out of your budget? I am on iphone and the wireless connection is just too laggy for the monitor APP.
If you want monitor get atomos shinobi, but if you want smartphone size, just get any Android phone you like the specs and purchase the monitor + app, its fantastic if you are not looking to do live streams, for everything else regarding functions as monitor is great, cheers!
Great vid...I just bought the Experia V III (I think...the model numbers are very confusing...) Really did not think I would want to use this as a monitor with my Sony A7RIV but, I want to now. It was not on your list, but, trying to find a Mini-HDMI to USB-C coil cord like yours....I checked Cable Matters, etc....it seems I have to do a two piece setup with adaptor? Also, no one is talking about "monitor hood" or sun shade for the phones. These are hard enough to see outdoors....have you ventured down that path...I did find something on Amazon that is mostly design for people using their phones with DJI controllers...which, I could definitely use one for my drone and then as a monitor....
NOW I KNOW....the ridiculous over-heating of Sony phones basically render them useless as a multimedia tool...I like it as a phone but, even then just in average warm days the phone alerts with heat warnings...
@Jason - do you have any experience using the Experia Pr0-I with a Sony A7xxx running an XLR- K3M on top? I can't seem to get the Xperia to receive the audio that the shotgun/ K3M is capturing.
nevermind. I just figured it out -If you have a pair of earbuds or headphones that have a mic, as soon as you plug into the Xperia, the External Monitor app switches to from "audio = USB" to "audio = External Mic" - hence why when I was trying to monitor the audio coming from the K3M, it wasn't picking it up - it was using the audio from the little mic on my headphones/earbuds.
Hey I have a sony a7vi and what the best lenses to use for tik tok and RU-vid I doing cooking video if that help because looking to purchase a lense soon
@@BingsGarage have had about four Xperia since Sony nz/au stopped selling them no problems.not sure about 5g compatibility as we don't have alot of 5g towers here yet. Repairs can be an issue insurance just replaces phone If screen is smashed etc
Only if you want monitoring, this phone does much more for professional workflows to be able in real time uploading data to ftp server and live streaming, the monitor app does not do that, but I agree with you, its a fantastic app used in an Android phone and with a usb c cable. Cheers!
