I ditched my iPhone and used the Apple Watch Ultra as my ONLY device. Here are the results! - Watch my previous Apple Watch only video. ► • I used an Apple Watch ... - Connect with me on Twitter! ► / watchttm
Appreciate it but it’s def not worth it I want to at least last me 2 days incase I forget to charge it on the first day but if it only last about 3/4 of the day what is up with that I like the sleep tracking but according to your video it won’t even manage that
I do not have an Ultra, but I have heard from many people that the biggest drain on the battery was the constant search for cellular signal. If you live in an area with more reliable coverage the battery lasts way way longer.
It wasn’t just the signal search but just being on LTE in general was a big battery drain. When I was out & about I had pretty good signal strength and it still drained. Of course, having your phone nearby with Bluetooth on would help drastically
I use my ultra as a standalone and easily get 1.5 days my area has good signal and I don’t send over 25 messages a day and normally take/make about 10 calls
@@TheTechMillennial I use my phone for about 2 hours at night to check emails and socials and do anything I can’t do on my watch!! The whole point for me was to get my screen time down on my phone!! Which it has drastically!! 👍🏻 also my watch will be connected to wifi at home. But I’m out for 10-12 hours a day. I have always on display turned off btw
Buying an iPad changed my view of the Smartphone debate. The iPad I was actually getting work done on iOS and was doing many things that I would "need" an iPhone for. I will probably do this with the Apple Watch SE (budget reasons) to limit the battery drain. I bought a Sony Walkman Mp3 Player to offload my listening (mainly audiobooks and podcasts I only really listen to music when I'm behind the desk working). I will be getting a Garmin GPS unit for the car for navigation and all I am lacking to go Post Smartphone is a good point-and-shoot camera. If Apple gave us iPad integration for the Watch I will never have an iPhone (or any other smartphone) again. Once I do this the phone will stay in the drawer only to be taken out if the Watch needs updates.
I do many similar things as was detailed in this video however, I get much better battery life with only having to charge my Ultra about 3 times per week. Many times at the end of day one, my battery level is somewhere in the 70% range. So I am amazed that this video shows such a fast amount of battery drain.
Writing 179 messages is very likely a lot more than „normal users“ are doing. I probably sent around 10 and so i get through the day without a problem, even with much longer runs.
I’m curious - do you have it connected to cellular the entire day? If I use mine normally (with my iPhone/bluetooth connected and wifi also on at home) then I definitely can get days of battery life on it like most people 👍🏽
A few times in your video you wanted to zoom in (QR code for Amazon return, photo) and said you can't. You CAN and I do it all the time. Double-tap with 2 fingers and you can also move around with those two fingers. Also, upon the first 2x tap you keep your fingers on the display and move them in or out to change the zoom level. Same thing as you can do on the iPhone. Enable it via the Accessibility menu (on the watch itself of using the Watch app on your iPhone).
I think your signal strength was the battery drainer. Another RU-vidr started at 80% and went the whole day in NYC. I think he arrived home with a bit to spare.
Were they on LTE only? I wasn't home all day and had a decent connection throughout my day. The biggest battery drain was just being on LTE the entire day to begin with. 🔋
@@TheTechMillennial You're most welcome. I need your recommendation. I have Apple watch 7 and i'm considering buying the ultra. I don't know if its worth it or not.. Your thoughts? Also, their is supposed to be an update to the ultra that gives you 60 hours of battery time.. Have you heard when this might be happening ?
That completely depends on you & your needs. The Ultra is bulkier, heavier and slightly less comfortable than the non-Ultra models. I actually still use my Series 5 because once you use the Ultra you really appreciate the compact size of the regular models. BUT if you really need the extra battery life & bigger screen then it’s worth it. I charge my Watch every night so battery life isn’t something that I had a concern about. The 60 hour battery life update should be coming out before end of year.
After watching another video on the Apple Watch Ultra, the algorithm thought I would like your video. It was right. I'm blown away by the style and execution of your video. I learn a lot from content creators like you. Very well done.
You should really keep this series of Apple Watch Day in the Life videos up. I never liked day in the life stuff till I saw your previous video on the Apple Watch. I absolutely loved that video and am so glad you revisited this theme. Please make more of these using other Apple Watches. I'd watch them in a heartbeat ❤
Super well put together video. I have a Apple watch ultra as my only device for my business line when I leave my personal phone home. I was wondering if I was the only one whos battery would drain like this depending on it so much lol. Same car and all lmao only difference is the smart lock. W video
wow! aside from the reviews of the apple watch ultra this is a fantastic video. music, audio and sound effects is amazing! i truly enjoyed your video! NICE JOB!!!
Great video ! Glad you’re back (: For that price ultra watch still ain’t worth it or could ever replace an iPhone, especially for someone who’s always on the run.. my Series 7 last more battery 🥴
I can go two days without charging pretty easily. This is with roughly 4 hrs of workouts, a lot of messages, some phone calls, etc. Must be the cell signal hunting that is killing it for you.
Wow! You are truly a computer geek, I love it. I’m the total opposite of you, when I get home from work I get rid of all electronics minus my record player and hit the weights, listen to music and relax watching the sunset.
This video will definitely help me in choosing the right watch, I feel like I should go with series 8 because tbh I don't need the features that Apple watch ultra offers (A larger battery would be nice tho). I usually don't like to wear a watch when sleeping. that's why I can charge it overnight and I think Series 8 will last a day when paired with an Iphone. Any suggestions from your side?
I actually agree with this 100%! If a bigger battery isn’t absolutely necessary for you (I also always charge my Watch at night) then I would recommend a Series 7 actually 👍🏽 I recently saw a refurbished stainless steel on Apple’s website for a great deal 👍🏽
I was on the fence. I bought the Ultra and I’m so glad I did. The extra battery is a game changer, the bigger screen is so nice and the action button is so useful should be in all the new watches. I’m a long time Apple fan boy and this is one of my best and probably my favorite Apple product in years.
Joseph you definitely are right - the Apple Watch Ultra is one of Apple’s best products in a few years :) It’s a no brainer if you’ll take advantage of the bigger screen, longer battery life and action button!
TBH this a big watch! It’s obviously the best hardware piece Apple has produced in recent years but getting a series 8 is more sensible because it feels like a everyday watch and is is good enough for everyday use. I’ll Definitely get the Apple Watch Ultra as a daily driver but as I have to use it at work so the regular Apple Watch feels sleek and good looking.
A lot of people forget to completely turn of the wifi on the watch when they leave the house, doing so will greatly improve battery life. By the end of the day (bedtime 10pm ) I have 45% remaining
@@TheTechMillennial When I’m out hiking or on my runs I don’t take my phone only my watch. Turning off the Wi-fi (and blue tooth if not bing used) significantly mitigates battery drain👍
Absolutely. The main point of this video was using connected at all times. If you have Bluetooth on with your iPhone then the battery will easily last 2 days!
If you use a fast charger brick from Apple or Anker, you can top off the watch in the shower. If your environment has poor cell service, then, like a cellphone, the device needs to ramp up the power to get service and it kills the battery. Have it connect to Wi-Fi instead and it’ll last for days. I use mine for working out , long bike rides or running without a phone, and at work will often leave my cellphone in my office and have no problem never having the watch run out of juice.
Does the Ultra need a Cellular Service? LIke its own number? If so, how does it conect to your current Iphone and its number? Confused as to how that works.
I can see the drainage from being always connected to cellular. Is there a way to control the cellular connection , like turning it off when not needed?
If your iPhone is nearby with Bluetooth on, or you have wifi on then this will use those connections and turn off cellular automatically. You could also technically go into setting to turn it off manually as well 👍🏽
Nice! Btw just wondering was the brightness on your watch on the highest setting? I have an Apple Watch Series 5 and i keep my watch on the lowest setting and it lasts me the whole day, i think the chose of brightness will play a big role on how much your battery life lasts.
Yes, it was on full brightness along with the Always On Display as well. Biggest battery drain was the cellular. If not it lasts me over 2 days. I still have my Series 5 as well 👍🏽
Wouldn’t it make more sense to charge the watch while in the shower and driving if you were going to use it as a stand alone device? That’s what most people do with their phones.
That battery performance is fairly disappointing. The only caveat I guess for you was the poor signal pickup in your home which would no doubt use more battery as it would be constantly searching for reception.
Appreciate the feedback! Any better suggestions for the title? I tried avoiding using the iPad but my watch and car both failed me in the exact moment I needed them both lol 😅
@@TheTechMillennial It was a great plot twist that made me keep watching to see what you'd do! Can the Apple Watch Ultra Be Your ONLY Device? Here’s What Happened. (Clearly hooked me with your current title but that's my best shot at removing clickbait:P)
Thank you! And if you take advantage of all the extra features it's worth it. But I still do like my Series 5 even more now because of it's smaller, lightweight design.
So basically you have to be a millionaire - own a tesla model S (X, Y, 3), iPad Pro, an Apple Ultra and probably a Pro Max as backup. I can't believe that all these would be enough to buy groceries and haircut. FTW! Oh yeah... don't forget that charger.
I used my Series 9 for an entire day and left my iPhone at home without any problems. You just need to put it on “low battery mode” immediately after charging to 100% so the battery is conserved for longer. I listened to Apple music for 2 hours, made a 45 minute phone call, sent some texts, paid for a few subway rides and shopped for food with ApplePay. It was at 10% when I got home. Also used the watch as my key fab for my Tesla ❤
Thank you for your interesting video but I would like to know if I can make phone calls using my Bluetooth headphones which’s connected to the watch and not using the mic of the watch?
I would say, give it three maybe four more years and the Apple Watch will be a standalone device where you won’t need the iPhone anymore. Right now the Apple Watch is just a convenient extension of your phone. It’s meant to be a complement to your phone I believe.
Well we thought that too when LTE was introduced in the Series 3 but 5 years later we haven't made a huge leap forward yet. I guess we'll see 5 years from now.
Apple wants the watch to be a companion to the iPhone, not a standalone device own it’s own. People just want to push the technology along too fast! Just enjoy what it does now because 20 years from now the iPhone will be implanted device in our bodies so we won’t need to physically carry the phone in the hands anymore like that Netflix show with everything was implanted inside the eyes
I do agree that the Ultra is pretty bulky. It’s lighter than it looks, but is still chunky. Sleep tracking, etc. is uncomfortable so I can imagine certain workouts would also be a bit uncomfortable 👍🏽
Fits the channel name. Apple products and Tesla's in the first seconds of the video lol. Sometimes you just get to consumed by tech. I've gotten into cars lately and man is it ever fun. Would definitely recommend at least attending a car meet once and if you like cars overall get a fun drift car or v8.
Idk what it is with us RU-vidrs but Apple & Tesla are a must lol. The tech is just too awesome. But I agree - nothing like a proper gas engine. I recently sold a V8 coupe that I had (when I got this Tesla). Absolutely loved it but it’s not as ideal as a Model S for my lifestyle right now.
Why not use wifi when you are home charging it though? It is a use case for when someone is without an iPhone but there is a familiar wifi signal that the apple device can connect with.
I purposely turned off wifi so that I could push the Apple Watch Ultra to its limits. But I agree - wifi at home would definitely help it’s reception and battery life 🔋
@@TheTechMillennial Aren't you able to drift in the model S with track mode? Maybe you can't with the long range version. Drifting destroys tires though lol
How are you sending iMessages without the iPhone, are you still having your iPhone connected to Wi-Fi at your house or is the cellular service doing its job
I actually have a pretty strong Wi-Fi router at home but I had Wi-Fi turned off just for the purpose of this video. Normally it would connect to Wi-Fi at home 🏡
What complication and watch face is it that shows your cell signal? I tried searching all over the watch for it and can't find it! Just the complication that can toggle cell antenna on and off. Thanks!
The “cellular” complication will show the signal bars when it’s using LTE. If you have a cellular plan on your watch but it’s connected to your iPhone or wifi then it will only show the antenna icon.
Mine lasted all day and even if you need a charge it is only around 400+mah. You can use a usb c portable charger from mophie or you can plug it directly into your ipads usb c to charge.
@@TheTechMillennial She didn’t compare to anything but yeah you are right cause it’s cheaper. My mom at the end of the day has 30-40%. She rides a bike 20km / 1 hr+ per day 🙂
If I start my day at 7AM and have a 30 min work out, I end the day around 25-30% on my Ultra without any use of the phone. Your low signal in the house is probably part of the issue, also -- how long were those phone calls?
The charging time seems very odd. When I charge my Apple Watch Ultra in the morning while I‘m in the bathroom for 10 minutes, I got from 46% to 59% And why don‘t you use WiFi at home? Dealing with bad signal strength also kills the battery very fast.
Exactly what I was thinking lol. He’s not using the 20w charging brick or there’s something wrong with his power supply because I too experience very fast charging speeds. I’m still baffled by how fast his battery drained as well. No other review I’ve watched has gotten that bad of battery life on cellular. 🤔
@@Zurxxc When using a cellular Apple Watch with your phone nearby, the watch will use WiFi to talk to your phone instead of using the cellular connection. This way, the battery lasts a LOT longer. Since he had his phone turned off, the watch was using the cellular connection the whole time. Pair that with the bad reception in his house and you get what you saw in the video - the watch trying to find a cellular tower is eating up the battery.
@@mbirth I don‘t mean for calls, but for every app on the watch that uses internet connection, e. g. iMessage, weather, Find My etc. If those apps are constantly trying to get a connection through bad cell service, the battery will suffer. That wouldn‘t be a problem, if the watch had access to WiFi. Hence, the test is not representative in my opinion, because most people do have WiFi at home.
How did you get into your car without phone key? Keyfob or key card?

I think there is something terribly wrong with this Apple Watch. It simply doesn’t make sense how fast the battery goes down, and how long does it charge up. Not sure what is happening, but I have a feeling this is simply wrong.
Not at all - you’d be surprised how much cellular drains the battery. On other days when I used it paired with my iPhone (and wifi at the house) it lasts well into 2 days 👍🏽

@@TheTechMillennial I am not sure how did tested that, but I would try to not turn off phone when you want to route everything to the Apple Watch. Just try to leave your phone at home, turned on. Because thats how Apple officially advices people to use cellular on their Watch. If the phone is turned off, it might actually make some problems. I know it sounds strange
I took mine outside and lost about 25-30% battery in about 3 hours, this is with about 1 hour of workouts with music from spotify, a short phone call one apple pay and sending and receiving about 40-50 messages.(this is without the iphone). Made a few siri requests and did a bit of surfing on google (2 links opened) Would you say it's normal? Seeing from your video I guess it's fine.?
doing the highest sort of stress test eh? White background uses more battery than a black screen. Mind putting your settings in the description? Might show a better example of why your at 17, when I've had 17 the next morning from a full charge.
This was definitely a stress test lol. Everything turned on, the entire time. There’s plenty of videos out there showing how to maximize battery so I wanted to see how much I could push it instead 👍🏽
Yes for sure! Even if I had the wifi on while at home that would have preserved a good amount of battery. But I really wanted to push it to its limits in this video! 👍🏽
@@TheTechMillennial Thanks for doing this. So much different from most so called reviewers that ALL praise it and all do the same boring unboxing and whatnot.
I have the watch. Normal use the battery is insane period lol. Reason his drained is probably due to the signal strength .. watch was probably constantly looking for signal
The Apple Watch Ultra seems pretty amazing for their features. Unfortunately, I cannot justify having to pay $800. I have a series 3 and I’m more looking into either series 5, 6 or the either of the SEs. Great video though! Good to see you back!
If you take advantage of it's all features, then it's worth it. If you don't, you're better off getting a non-Ultra model 👍🏽 I personally still have my stainless steel Series 5 and prefer it a lot of times! You should look into Apple's refurbished inventory. Lots of great deals there. & thank you! 🙏🏽
Justify it by comparing it with other traditional luxury watches, luxury watches cost 8k-10k... A watch like apple watch cost fairly cheap compared to that and does more.
