Hey girl aesthetician here. You wanna approach retinol reallyyy slowly. Start with the lowest percentage and use it only once a week then move up to twice a week then 3 times a week. 3 times a week should be the max never use retinol more than 3 times a week. stay on that percentage for about two months then go higher. Keep increasing percentage that way. I would advise the highest you should go would be 1% but of course you can experiment beyond that. Just be careful because as much as retinol is amazing for your skin It can be really damaging if misused. Goodluck! :)

hi, i have a questin , i have used lactic acid before bu havent really done anyhting to my skin in past 6 month like no chemicals, now can i start directly ordinary 0.5 percent retinol, i have already bought it and now confused
@chaeguevara
@chaeguevara 19 дней назад
@@siiyuo1122 yes! Whenever you want to do a chemical peel, just take a week break from retinol then a few days after the peel you can continue. Thats If it’s a light peel. If it’s a medium peel which you wouldn’t be doing yourself anyways you would be going to a specialist for that then you would need three weeks off retinol :)

Why would you suggest to start slow? I had never used any kind of skincare products. I started using a cleanser, Alkief (trifarotene) and an moisturizer every evening and i think it’s working fine. Some mornings when i wake up i have some skin flakes, but no so bad.

How is it going?? I just bought it and scared of using it, bc I already feel insecure w having acne and am not ready for more break outs :/
@raspboobies
@raspboobies 3 месяца назад
@@strawberry4868 let me help you girl!! i used to use retinol 0.5% from the ordinary and it worked like magic for me. The serum will break your skin out for temporarily within the time you use it but thats because your skin is trying to remove the old skin cells and try to repair it with a new skin barrier which is called a cell turn over. Make sure that the retinol you are using as a beginner is not too advanced and high in the percentage as you havent used it perviously which would make your skin not adjust to it as it is something new. Your skin will become more sensitive so only use it at night time and adjust it slowly as the weeks pass by, also include by wearing suncream in the mornings to prevent darker spots and to protect your skin, and additionally HYDRATE your skin because it will enter into a purging stage of it peeling and breakouts but if you slug your face as i have done then it redcues the peeling and flakeness. I'm trying again with retinol because my skin has broke out crazy within these months and its making my mental health slowly deterioate so hopefully this is going to help my skin again. if you have any questions please ask i am more than happy to help!

I also bought retinol in squalane, i dis research beforehand, youre supposed to start with the lowest concentration and "work your way up" basically. You bought the highest concentration so im not surprised your skin was unhappy after using it daily. As far as i remember the lowest concentration in squalane was 0.2%, I'm currently using 5%. Maybe when repurchasing get a lower concentration if you notice its too strong for you :)

Thank you, definitely the right advice to share! However, I’d already been a retinol user before trying this so 1% was perfect for someone like me. Also, I only used 1-2 times per week not every day 😃 I’d love to hear how you’re finding the 5% strength
@chaeguevara
@chaeguevara 4 месяца назад
No matter how long you’ve been using retinol, 5% is diabolical! You may think it’s fine because your skin is not reacting to it but the long-term effects aren’t good. I doubt whatever retinol you’re using actually has 5% in there. It might just be on the label but I highly doubt that’s the actual percentage in the product. Can’t imagine anyone using 5% retinol with no reactions. I’m an aesthetician.

I have been using the same bottle it says use it within 3 months but by bottle wasnt over so i decided to use it, its been 5 months is it okay if i keep using the same bottle?
@BriannaJane
@BriannaJane 7 месяцев назад
It might be that it just loses efficacy over time, but as long as the formula doesn’t seem expired or contaminated and you’re not having a reaction I think it should be fine!

Squaline oil blocked my pores and made me break out in spots ans one that scarres on my nose tip. My skin was well used to the retinol percentage so it was the squaline. Ill never put any oil on my face again
@GiJoe94
@GiJoe94 2 месяца назад
Or it might be the retinol itself. Retinol in some cases first couple of weeks has worse effects like skin flaking, acne etc..

Does it sting?
@BriannaJane
@BriannaJane 8 месяцев назад
Nope! It’s not an acid product so it doesn’t sting when you apply it. But retinol can make your skin more sensitive and irritated the next morning and following days, depending on the strength of the retinol and how often you use it. I’d recommend starting with a low percentage retinol product (the ordinary has lower % than the product I used here), using it 1-2 times a week and building up from there :)
