You got the same exact gateway monitor as me and I don't know howw, I got both Windows XP Media Center and Windows Vista on my computer, it's an HP Media Center. Vista was pretty bad when it first released but it really improved later on, people still think it's horrible today and it makes me kinda sad. It was rushed because they wanted to start over with Longhorn but they didn't have enough time to finish it and that's how it ended up this way. I really like the design of Vista, everyone probably forgets this is really where the aero theme came from, I really like how much effort and detail they put into everything, even the icons. Everyone should really have a second look at Vista, I wish people would appreciate it more. Windows 7 is my favorite version but I really like Vista just as much. I'm glad you do too!

Ah yes Windows Vista. I mostly grew up on it, I remember my parents and I had a HP Pavilion A6400F with Vista pre installed on it. I still consider it one of my childhood PCs I owned, mine came with a HP w2207h monitor that I still have too. I had a similar machine that looked like my childhood PC but it had integrated Nvidia graphics but has the same Pentum dual core I had somewhat brought it home my local dump in my town expect that model was a Pavilion A6603W, unfortunately I chucked the board when I had an old project to turn my childhood PC into a sleeper machine, which I still regret but yeah. Overall Vista wasn't THAT bad tbh. As for my Pavilion A6400F, that later was upgraded to Windows 7 and then later bit the dust in 2014 However on your description I feel some added context is need: “People unnecessarily hated Vista” To be fair, back when it was new in 2007, nothing could run it and at the time most people were still rocking with an old Pentum 3 or 4 PC that wasn't really that powerful to handle Vista at the time and even then the RTM/SP0 release of Vista was pretty bad to begin with. However once SP1 and especially SP2 was released it became a lot better to handle. Especially Service Pack 2. Overall not a bad video I guess.
@steelsofliquid
@steelsofliquid 8 месяцев назад
That's cool! I initially used Windows 7, 8.1 and some Linux back in the day. Also yeah, I know about the description, thanks for providing some context since some of my OS knowledge (more of the public reputation of OSes) isn't as great as my knowledge of OS functionality and development and that stuff

Windows Vista was the pinnacle of Windows design. The problem was that the majority of PCs at the time of release weren't ready for this kind of change so people ended up having a bad experience on their low-end PCs and then hating Windows Vista because of that

Yeah. What sort-of made it worse was that some PCs from the time came with "Windows Vista Capable" stickers which only applied to the Home Basic skew, and this got Microsoft into a lawsuit.

@@pavaomrazek Except even a cheap potato PC sold today can run 11 fine. Vista was probably the biggest jump in "bloat" by far that would easily turn a PC that would run XP no problem into a slowpoke.

This PC is from around 2009/2010, would've came with 7 Pro from the factory but I had to swap the drive to install Vista as the one previously inside this PC used GPT (GUID Partition Table) format that Vista, or well at least the 32-bit copy of Vista (which I don't know why I installed 32-bit, since the PC has a 64-bit CPU =/) doesn't support. Though, I got this PC back in January 2023 as part of an early-2023 PC "haul".

Back in the late 2000s I had a low end Dell desktop from somewhere around 2002-2006, it ran XP and lucky I didn’t know what Vista was back then because if I knew someone had Vista I would have probably hated them.

What did you think of Windows XP? When I got my first pc in 2005, I thought it looked ugly. The second I saw Vista I remember really wanting it.
@steelsofliquid
@steelsofliquid 8 месяцев назад
At first I didn't understand much about it before around 2019 (when I started making videos), apart from it looking unique. Nowadays I think it's fine, though I think it looks nicer with the Royale theme and that it would've looked amazing if Microsoft went with a prototype theme called "Candy" (which resembles Mac OS X a bit, which I loved the visual style of back in the day and still do, mainly the old 10.1-10.8 themes). For reference, "Candy" was an unused theme that was found in a handful of beta builds for XP.

You can still use Vista on the latest hardware, maybe not as your main OS but in dual boot configuration. It works on Intel 13th Gen hardware: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-_BEWByhdFig.html

There's various update tools (most notable being Legacy Update), along with a handful of modern web browsers, such as Mypal and Supermium. And there's also an extended kernel, but that can be slightly difficult. Also, that's impressive that you're still using Windows Vista!

Thanks! I can agree that Vista is underrated and quite misunderstood, and I've loved Windows Vista for years, fueled by my early intrigue of its stock programs around 2014-2016 (some of which work on modern Windows, such as WMP 11 and Windows Calendar) and it's similarity in appearance to Windows 7, which I was quite fond of back in 2013 when I got my first computer taste (or, well maybe 2012, when I changed my teacher's password and my parents got a phone call from the school about a little kid wanting to be a hacker).

@@steelsofliquid Cool you know I never understood why Microsoft can't just give the Windows users what they want I want something that looks like Windows Vista/7 but instead they have to shove UWP and ugly and slow Xml UI in Windows 10/11 which I hate but they also strip away to much soul from the OSes. That was an interesting thing yo told me about changing he password on your teachers computers I guess we all have may have attempted that when we where little kids in school.

Yeah, my own OS actually is something that feels memorable and potentially nostalgic. I wonder why Microsoft doesn't take notes from me, although they do have a history of getting in trouble with antitrust laws and they are "corporate overlords" (as I call them) who want to throw AI into everything even if not necessary.
