This is what I’m doing with my Sims in Bloom Legacy challenge. I am following the traits/aspirations/listed “colors” for each generation and careers, skills, etc but I’m not forcing myself to complete the goals such as “mastering” the skills for that generation for example. I love having the guidelines to put into my game so that I can have a base for the story I make up for my household. ❤
I love playing rotationally with gameplay rules I make for myself to allow for surprises! Though I love having a ruleset to see what I can manipulate within them, I love making stories/families, and playing an entire world allows me to refresh things to keep me from getting bored :)

Tl, dr: story prompts might be more fun than structured challenges and creating sims with the intention of only playing with them for a short time is cool. This is probably really obvious but I think a good idea for you to try is rather than challenges, create yourself challenging prompts. Create a sim with a mismatched personality or skill set or have a sim start in a really awkward position and try to create a story around it that makes sense. I think a crazy start and a blank page might be really fun for you as you wouldn't be limited by any end goals or pre determined story and you could just let yourself run wild with all the unique and diverse story options. One thing I do sometimes is create a family for my world but only play them enough to build their story and get to know them (probably do it with ageing off), that way it's okay if you only play them for a few hours because you'll have sims that mean something to you walking around your world and being friends with your main household, it gives you a chance to try new things without committing and it can be refreshing to spend an hour with a random family. It also reduces the annoying npcs with mismatched clothes who just appear everywhere until you delete them or give them a makeover.

I feel that so much. I try to create a legacy, challenge or I end up straying away from certain things to do what I love. I think of the main things I need to do is create a number of households and cycle through them in order to achieve generations. It worked out wonderfully for me playing the Sims 2, but I need to find a good method for the Sims 4.
I don't play sims 4 anymore, I'm much more into ts3 but heavily relate to this I feel like rules and challenges limit my creativity and aren't compatible with my slow paced playing style. Lately I sometimes use challenges to give me ideas for the founder of a said legacy but thats it!!
hi plumbie! i'm so glad you had this realization- better late than never for you to reflect on what you actually enjoy doing instead of what you think you should be doing. for my gameplay, it's the cozy family gameplay where i play the same family for a while and storytell without the pressure of a challenge. also, i play the base game which means i can't do many challenges! as always, love seeing notifications from ur channel and some name suggestions are: Hannah, Norah, Abigail, or Harper- idk why but i think they would fit her

I I have a name suggestion… Shortbread, Sweets and Treats 💜I must admit, I do like doing challenges… They do satisfy that part of my brain that likes a checklist. But I find that by the time I get to GEN five and six I’ve lost interest. The only challenge that I’ve ever completed was the hundred baby challenge which I’ve actually completed twice. My favorite way to gameplay is to actually play my NPC families one at a time. I’ve created my own custom save file with builds and Sims from some of the creators that I love the most and some that I’ve created myself. I’ll spend a week or two playing a family getting their skills built and worked up in their careers, while getting friendships built. And then I’ll move onto another family. I’ve actually done this with 5 different saves since I’ve been playing the Sims and it truly is what I enjoy the most. I say do what makes you happy! Watching your videos makes me happy. 💜💜

I’m still watching but I am the same exact way. I don’t think I’ve ever started a challenge or at least not one by someone else. Legacies aren’t for me either lol. I thrive on rotational gameplay. It keeps me from getting bored. That’s why I love custom save files so much.
same with me I can't play like a challenge bc ill always like cheat it and then ill get bored I think is bc when I creat a sims I have this picture in my mind and then when I start playing the lets play it gets boring really quick
I love that you came a bit closer to figuring out how you like to play. I realized recently that I get bored if I stay in the same world and with the same family for too long, so now I have at least one family in each world, and I play rotationally. I play each family for a week then move to the next family. And I like it when my sims all have different hobbies and goals. Like even if two dims are both bookworms, they won't necessarily love the same genre. Playing with this much variety makes me really love my sims and enjoy playing.
I love doing challenges but I feel you when it comes to doing lets plays, there are so many lets plays I've done on my channel that I haven't finished 😣 and I feel bad too. This sim is the cutest! I love her little skin details and the outfits are so cute, I really like those maxis match hairs you used, I don't think I ever really use maxis match but the hairs look so good in my opinion! I am interested to see how you play this sim on your channel I always love seeing new sims 4 lets play series and I've been so into them recently 🤩
i definitely do the same! i lose interest in households and challenges really quickly, never making it past mid-generation 1. my goal this year is to give my characters more depth and story so i can get immersed more and finish a generation!

Oh my goodness I think you have just explained my problem with the Sims 4! I play the first gen and then lose interest. I like slow gameplay and like you say using intuition. I love the pack legacy challenge that RosannaTxt has written. I like the idea that it will get me to focus on all the different gameplay aspects. However, I’m thinking about having different households rather than different generations. That means I can hop about depending on what I fancy doing. I hope that makes sense 😂

I think I like to do both, because even in the challenge I follow my intuition on what to do and I always need a break and just play as it is without any challenge with other household🥰 and I love your sims names

I can't seem to play with one household for long, so what I do is whenever I make a new household I would place them in the same world so if I wanna switch around it'll be super easy
I love to play intergenerational games. I always have since the Sims 2, I used to play rotationally, and I still sometimes do if I'm on long lifespan. I only started playing challenges last year with the not so Berry challenge, (mostly because I kept wanting to start out with arty hippies and do the same sort of things, although the Sims they'd meet along the way and what have you would influence how the story would go and change things up a little) not so Berry has been really fun for me I'm on peach and I already feel like I'll miss it. I've done some scenarios as well which have also been fun prompts that let me get a little out of my rut. The perfectly well rounded challenge is basically what I would always strive to achieve anyway but having the little goal things to remind me was not bad. And I did that kid scenario which honestly reminded me of a lot of gameplay I'd completely overlooked. I usually play the kids but not to that extent, I'd just play them enough to get them some friends and complete at least one aspiration so playing fully as a child was really interesting and it was fun to see what a difference it was. I made her the child of a wolfpack and she just had to deal with nutty wolves and however they managed to deal with their needs and whatever. I also tried starting as a toddler after that I put her parents in steady jobs and then didn't play them just tried to get my needs met from the toddler perspective which was more fun than I thought it would be

Really enjoyed hearing you talk about this. I’ve been playing the sims since it came out as well and never completed a legacy challenge and felt like I was playing wrong. I really enjoy long lifespan and exploring an individual sims story. Seems like that’s what this let’s play will be about and I’m soooo excited!! Also, I like her name but maybe Cindy as a nickname??
I always felt bad because I'd spend months playing with just one sim and expanding their story too! But that's one thing I love about the sims franchise is that you can do so much with one sim and their story. I'm so excited about the lp as well, I have a feeling that it's going to be amazing. Cindy is the cutest nickname for her!
Hi Plumbie! I really like the idea of Gwendolyn as her first name. Gwendolyn Shortbread, though she'd probably go by Gwen in most situations. I've never finished a challenge either. I've gotten 4-6 gens in when playing TS3 and 3 gens so far with TS4, I think this occurs because when you get really invested in a family you want to take your time, especially when you're storytelling.

The only challenge I can play is rag to riches. I can’t even finish watching sim legacy challenges made by simmers. 😂Otherwise my gameplay is very casual.
The Sim is super cute and I'm looking forward to more videos! I'm similar to you, playing challenges is not for me. I do like to play "legacies," sort of, but just in the sense that I play the same family tree for multiple generations. I don't follow any other traditional legacy challenge rules, and I don't care whether I get to generation 10 or not.
