Gratz! I actually just found the 490 type 1 variant. Very neat watch! I also stumbled across the marathon 91 gulf war watch. im hooked on these field mil spec watches.
Yeah they are pretty neat and have the "no-frill no-nonsense" feel. Nice to see how they captured the most important things about a watch while keeping the design up to mil specs. Congratulations on getting your 490 and Marathon!
Thanks for watch and staying for 9mins + :D I was really excited about this watch and spent some extra time building it up. In the description there are chapters you can jump ahead.
It's made by Stocker & Yale so I suppose you can consider that as its brand? They have unfortunately discontinued so you can only find this watch as antiques or collectibles.
Thanks. It's hard to put a price on this piece. It's not really a "collectable" as it was simply a utility tool issued to the military folks and thus not made from any expensive/rare materials. It's just become hard to find because it's replaced by other products (e.g., Marathon, G-Shocks). Personally I like it because of the clean design and interesting history. The best place to find them is to search in thrift stores. But sometimes you can also find them on eBay or from some collectors. I'd say good quality one costs around USD150-180. I wouldn't go more than USD250 on this one.
