I've been stuck on one issue of my research for quite a while now. In this video, I talk through one last idea I have to resolve the issue. Lets see how it goes.

SPOILERS: Seeing some people ask why I didn’t more or less just write a code to do the combinatoric thinking for me. The reason is because I didn’t spend 3 years thinking about combinatorics, I spent 3 years looking elsewhere for the problem. Once I had the idea that it could be the combinatorics, I fixed it in a day. Then it just took less than a week for me to really convince myself and generalize the procedure.

Congratulations on the breakthrough! 🎉 I know the feeling of conquering something that's been a struggle. One part frustration it was originally missed- one part thrill of knowing you cracked it. Publish already so you can share it with youtube(me). You also will benefit from anything you have an author attribution on. I'd love to hear about the publishing process. Who gets their names on it? Are there lots of rounds of writing? Is there much discussion about how to present it? Do you or your adviser consider either one to be the principle? Lots of times managing the relationships of the involved researchers and the publishing process is as interesting as the research. These things never hapen in a vacuum and the collaboration and work that goes into it is as interesting as the science.

This is like struggling on a PSET problem for like 6 hours only to realize you forgot to account for some subtle detail which finally gave you the solution in like 4 minutes (painfully speaking from experience rn), but instead of 6 hours it's 3 years. P.S. Having started my double bachelors in math and physics, I can say you've been one of the greatest inspirations for me following this route. I really admire you dedication. I think stuff like this is why I'm really not compatible with grad school. I don't think I have the emotional resilience to work on a problem like this for years. I have to wonder if there are any software packages that help compute the combinatorics issues for Feynman diagrams. It makes me sad to think of the collective time people have spent trying to figure them out.

There are partial packages however there are many QFTs that are complicated enough (due to symmetry structures) where alot of it is not very useful for most interesting questions. You might get an answer but often knowing why is more important.

The sad thing is, usually these insights that take weeks to figure out end up being only a few sentences in a final paper, which is why it's so easy to overlook when trying to read up on past work (if the authors decide to include all their assumptions or intermediate steps at all)

I vaguely remember in the book _Strange Beauty_ Gellman recalling how he was struggling with strangeness as a quantum number and thought he made a mistake when giving the spin of some particle in a lecture; paused for a few seconds and then realized his problem was solved using this change in thinking. I think the lesson is that as we familiarize ourselves with a problem over many months/years, the embarrassingly obvious answers can only be seen and appreciated by our expert peers.

A QFT series is gonna take a lot of care to do it right, so I don’t wanna rush it! But it’s still my goal👌🏻 I don’t personally think grad stat mech is necessary before QFT if you’ve at least seen it in undergrad. There are a couple cool relations to stay mech we covered when I took QFT, mostly in the path integrals formalism and getting familiar with Gamma functions. Maybe I’m missing some crucial reason to insist on taking stat mech first, but I can’t think of one at the moment. My last video (wow it’s been a while) talked about my visit at lanl a bit, and I’ll be visiting there again in the next few months👌🏻

sorry dude, in grade 10 rn so I don't exactly understand physics to the depth u understand it although I do know some of it (a bit of quantum mechanics, sr & gr) and I love d ur tensor calc series, and even though I see tensors here i can barely understand what they represent in the context of particle physics. I just wanna say thank you for helping me dive into a physics during that crucial moment where I learnt calculus and everything but the string theory videos aint doin it for me, ur a massive inspiration to upcoming scientists. Just wanna say thank you. Best of luck in ur phD, we all wanna see u become legendary.

Very cool dude! I am still only a second year in undergrad but I have been working in a lab now for a year and a day as of writing this and one of my know close friends is at a very similar stage in his graduate career. I feel like when he finally gets the one or two more things that he needs for his PHD it will be a similarly euphoric experience. I personally have finally started an experimental project in my lab and have been super excited about it. The end goal though is to get into quantum theory, I just need some more classes under my belt. But hey after this semester I'll be done with Linear Algebra and Differential Equations so I'll hopefully be doing some soon enough!
