Hello, I’m kind of in I situation right now, I’m 18 years old and I want to join the union im going to finish high school in like 3 months. I know people in local 58 a really great union that isn’t taking apprenticeships right now and is very hard to get into, but local 131 is taking inside wire apprenticeships I was wondering if it’s smarter to move 2 1/2 hours and start living on my own going to local 131 or should I do non-union work then try and switch over into local 58 due to making more money and being a lot closer to home and stay with my parents or should I gain work experience until they start taking apprenticeships again at local 58 which was over nine months ago?

if you can get into the other union and you feel comfortable living alone you could do that, not sure how hard that would be with the starting wages. i would suggest living with your family as long as possible so if you had to go non union that would probly be even better for the time being.
