There is zero proof he actually saw Lincoln get shot. Besides, why did he say this 80 years later? Before this, he had never told anybody that he saw Lincoln’s assassination. That seems kind of suspicious

I was just about to turn 5 when this aired 1956 My grandad was born in 1863 Truly these years and including (the American Civil War wasn’t that long ago as my son says)

This aired in 1956 and the Lincoln assassination took place in 1865. If he's 96, that means he saw it happen when he was either 4 or 5 years old depending on when his birthday was. Either way, that must have been especially traumatic for him to see that as a child.
I agree. Aside from being on a game show, what He had to say should be shown in classrooms for the kiddies to actually See somebody actually affiliated with Lincoln instead of only showing photos & telling history on him. This Guy actually brings Abe to life & makes it all that more interesting..
I don’t think he’s telling the truth. Here’s why: he had never told ANYONE before this that he was there. He literally only mentioned it one time, and that was when he was 94 in a public forum. Why did he wait so long to tell them?
If it's 1956..and he is 96 1956 - 96 _____ 1860 Abe was shot in 1865, that means that man was 5 years old when he saw him get shot. He would of also lived through: The end of slavery. The first car in the US. The first light bulb. The first house lit by light bulbs. The first city to be light by electricity (Wabash, IN where I live!) The first highway to be built. Lived through bonnie and clyd. Lived through the civil war. Saw the start of the first world war. and so much more...
Amazing stuff; ranks right up there with the fact that as of 2024 a grandson of John Tyler (10th president 1841-1845) is still alive in his nineties in Virginia! You can’t make this stuff up!

Think about it, this was "only" 90 years after Lincoln was assassinated. For them the civil war was as many years ago as ww2 is to us now. It only seems so crazy to us because nowadays enough time has passed for it to be considered ancient history
