This may be the craziest thing I've ever done, but I'm now a worm farmer. LOL! That's in addition to being an author of 10+ books and a fulltime nomad. What on earth have I done? And why? In this video I share with you step-by-step how I started my tiny home vermicomposting bin of nightcrawler worms. It took 4 tries but finally my worms are happy! 👍🏼😍

What a great hobby, now you need a couple plants to put all that good worm castings in, it makes great compost for plants lol. Happy worm farming and fishing.

I used to raise/farm worms and never went to such extremes for them. I never drilled holes in the bottom of the bins, and I used the cheapest, usually clear plastic bins, then I mixed paper strips w/potting soil, using every square inch of the news paper (never mind not using the colored parts). I fed them from the top, laying in whatever food scraps and covering them with a bit of paper (not much). They especially loved tomato slices. I also ground up egg shells, but not overdoing it. If they didn't eat a food in a week it was easy to remove. They ate scraps from our salads. DO NOT OVERFEED. I especially loved seeing new worms from the worm eggs. My worms were strong, healthy and prolific, living in a bin about 1 foot long, 8 inches deep by about 10 inches wide. I did keep the bin indoors, mostly put out of the way, but not in a cupboard. Who knows, maybe they really loved being social in my home with lots of music all the time. Hope this helps. Be healthy, stay safe and many blessings, Morgan

No salt corn meal make great food for your worms just sprinkle a little on the top . That's what my friend does and she uses a plastic coffee container with small holes in the top works pretty good make sure it's no salted corn meal

My husband raised worms for years before he moved them out to the compost pile. When he started there were no worms 🪱 in the yard and now there are gobs. He uses no fertilizer or any chemicals. The castings are great for plants.

Hi Debra. Is the worm thing the new hobby you were hinting to in that other video?

moldy food isn’t inherently dangerous to worms. The mold that develops on food scraps can actually assist in the breakdown process, making it easier for worms to consume the material. Thats why you use the little cardboard to contain the food to one area, so mold does not grow throughout the whole bedding and you probably are feeding too much raw food at a time if it gets moldy fast.

Used to use a cheap styrofoam cooler with a couple of holes in the lid , had black mountain valley soil , otherwise would have used pottting soil and mulch , fed them coffee grounds and corn meal . Cooler kept them at a steadier temp . Once a week or so would carefully dump the whole shebang out and stir it up so the bottom wouldn't get too wet and mold . While it sounds cruel , the night crawlers always got halved with the tail going on the fishhook first , very wiggly , then the head half after the tail was gone. I'm assuming that's what you are keeping them for because worm dairy farming is a losing proposition .

The worms will appreciate normal soil, potting mix is quite often devoid of life

Good afternoon friend. That is me. You need to get some overalls now that you're a farmer. Maybe a straw hat. Probably should get you a tiny tractor.😃🪱🪱🪱🪱🪱🪱🪱🪱
