Just like nobody could ever imitate Patrick Swayze and Jennifer Grey in the movie
@uncabuzz118
@uncabuzz118 Год назад
Patrick was born to play Johnny in DIRTY DANCING. The credit goes to his mother Patsy. In the 1960s, Swayze founded and directed both the Houston Jazz Ballet Company and her own Houston dance studio, the Swayze School of Dance. All five of her children became dancers and actors and Patsy's training has been credited for leading her son Patrick to his starring role in Dirty Dancing in 1987. Patrick met his future wife, film director and actress Lisa Niemi, while they were Patsy's students at the Swayze School of Dance. And as for Jennifer Grey remember..."nobody puts Baby in the corner".

Jennifer Warnes is such a wonderful singer. I spent a month driving across the USA in August 1979. At that time Jennifer had a huge hit called “I Know a Heartache When I See One”. I must have heard that record in the car hundreds of times, but I never tired of it. When I reached Los Angeles I purchased the single and took it back to England. Her other huge hit around the same time was a song called “The Right Time of The Night.” It would be great if you could feature a reaction to either of those beautiful recordings.

This song won them a golden globe, an Emmy and an Academy Award. Another one Bill didn’t think would be a hit, he and Jennifer Warnes just wanted a chance to work together. Bill sang the theme songs for more than 30 movies and TV series. (Eg ‘Friday Night is a good Night for Football’ from ‘The Last Boyscout”, and the theme for ‘Just the Ten of Us’ TV series)

Bill Medley to a degree stepped outside of his "comfort zone" in this song. He is much more animated than his usual performance which I find refreshing. His bass-baritone voice is remarkable and very distinctive. Take care.

This song was originally intended for Donna Summer and Joe Esposito (he sang Heaven Knows with Donna, Lady Lady Lady from Flashdance, and Piano In The Dark with Brenda Russell) from Brooklyn Dreams. It got shopped around, for a while before finally going to Bill Medley and Jennifer Warnes.

A few years prior to this, Jennifer Warnes was part of another great movie soundtrack duet. She collaborated with Joe Cocker on "Up Where We Belong" from the soundtrack of "An Officer and a Gentleman" in 1982.

One of the many things I loved about 80s music is that it probably had more great male-female duets than any other decade. I've Had The Time Of Life is certainly one of them. I remember when the movie Dirty Dancing came out in 1987. I've always loved the movie and this song. While you've covered Bill Medley as one half of the great duo The Righteous Brothers, I thought you might be interested in some of Jennifer Warnes other most notable songs. She recorded a terrific top ten hit in 1977 "Right Time Of The Night".Also, in 1982, she recorded a duet with Joe Cocker "Up Where We Belong." It's a great ballad which was the theme song from the movie "An Officer And A Gemtleman."

Love their voices in this so much. The small irony is that Bobby was the fabulous dancer between the RB. Bill would usually include this song on their Righteous Brothers tours, singing with one of their back-up singers. I'm assuming he still does.

You need to do one more Bill Medley/Righteous Brothers song to 'complete the set': "I Just Want to Make Love to You", which showcases exactly his inherent soul-talent. Very blues sound. If I recall correctly, the studio guitarist so prominent in the recording is the late Glen Campbell, who also featured on the classic song "Tequila". This was long before Campbell was backed up by the incredible John Hartford as Campbell recorded Hartford's songs "Gentle On My Mind" and "Wichita Lineman".

You guys might want to check out Patrick Swayze he sang a song in Dirty Dancing called She's Like the Wind it's really pretty good I'm I'm surprised he actually sings as good as he does because you know Patrick Swayze is basically an actor and a dancer he studied dance and acting but he's got a pretty doggone good voice too I wouldn't say he's like either the Righteous Brothers not that good but he's pretty good better than I thought he'd be kind of like David Soul was.

It's a wonder both brothers could sing at all later on in their musical careers. Bill wrote a book about his own life also called "The Time of My Life" and you can purchase it at Amazon. He tells in detail how when in Vegas in 1974 he totally lost his voice & all the doctors he went to said his vocal cords were so damaged that the loss was permanent. Interesting read how a chance meeting with his former high school music teacher slowly retrained him how to use the voice he had left to learn to sing again. Then Bobby Hatfield in 1988 was horsing around with a friend & they started pushing each other inside of The Hop after he & Bill had performed (a club owned by The Righteous Brothers in CA) and they went outside. Immediately Bobby got shoved so hard by this guy that he flew & hit the cement face down. All of Bobby's teeth were broken and every single bone in his face. Even his palate was broken in two. Obviously he was in serious condition & singing was not on his mind...survival to be alive & with his family was. So we appreciate both of the Righteous Brothers for doing what they did to get back out there and continue to sing for themselves & their fans. In fact they had a whole new generation know who they were when the movie Ghost came out in 1990 using their recording of Unchained Melody. They rerecorded it 25 yrs after the first record came out and it was a hit once again.

Have you read "My Birthdad Was A Righteous Brother-- My Adoption Journey by Sheri Strobaugh. That's a good book & hard to put down. The caring author & adoptee waited & didn't have the book published until her loving adopted parents passed away. Also available at Amazon.

Jennifer Warnes was quite well known in the country and pop genre, with her strong vocals. Cannot say enough about Bill Medleys vocal talent. A very good song with a great duet to sing it. Good movie too. Patrick Swayze is one of the last actors that can actually dance too, along with John Travolta and Kevin Bacon.

Thanks for allowing me to relive "the time of my life"! What memories! I'll tell you a secret from my high school days. In the 60's, before personal computers, when you had term papers to write the best reference library was our downtown city library. Good looking, smart young ladies from all of the Houston & suburban high schools would use the downtown library (open until 9 p.m.). Very few guys knew about this. My buddies & I would go down to the library about 1 night a week just to meet girls. Talk about enlarging your dating pool. Now I live on a mountain side in Idaho preparing for Trick or Treaters & winter. I hope that you both take time to watch "Dirty Dancing" again. That might have been the best era?

Followed up by Joe Cocker covering Ray Charles' classic "Unchain My Heart." If you like a bit of instrumental music, there's "Groovin With Mr Bloe" by Mr Bloe with the inimitable Harry Pitch on harmonica. "Stranger On the Shore" by Acker Bilk, "Midnight In Moscow" and "Suki Yaki" by Kenny Ball.
