you can play on playstation *ELDEN RING* ( an epic game ) not just TLOU ( hint dont play TLOU because TLOU part 2 of that game is a huge disappointment in story writing so you will just waste your time getting to love the game, the story , the world and then in part 2 you will hate yourself and much more, that you wasted your time on that garbage ) But on the other hands maybe PC is better for ELDEN RING because on PC you can have mods .....mods are making the game even cooler.

My favorite thing about the episode is the open window. Bill says in his letter that he left the window open for the smell, and asks for privacy for their grave. Having ambition is all it takes to make a videogame adaptation work That's why most videogame adaptations in the past failed, because the studio hired people that didn't understand videogames or filmmaking That's why recent adaptations like "Detetive Pikachu", "Sonic The Hedgehog", "Arcane" and "The Last of Us" worked, because the people behind it understood the games and the media
@Kevster921
@Kevster921 Год назад
I wholeheartedly agree with this take. Video game adaptations often almost felt ashamed of being based on a video game. They hired people who didn't like or play games - often from the B or maybe even C-list of directors/writers - who then changed major story elements or characters to the degree where the only thing that it shared with the original work was character names and a couple of monster-types. Look at Resident Evil, Monster Hunter, Max Payne, Silent Hill, etc. etc. Uwe Boll and Paul W.S Anderson single-handedly held back video game adaptations for 10-15 years because of the garbage they made. It was really really bad. It's shocking that it's taken Hollywood so long (essentially until the gamer-generations started climbing the ladder themselves) to understand that what you need to be able to make a great story is a group of passionate people who actually enjoy the source material - that's all. Though the enormous HBO budget certainly helps.

While I agree with you. I think The Last of Us is different because the show is depicting the story that you experience while actually playing the game. "Detetive Pikachu", "Sonic The Hedgehog" and "Arcane" are just very faithful to the universe and mostly the lore of those games. Those movies and show are borderline entirely new stories written with the structure and world of the games intact.

In all the reactors I've watched, you're the first one I've seen who picked up on the scene with Frank & Tess talking about the Code being a callback to the end of the first episode...nobody else I've watched has got that, yet. And yeah, pretty much this whole episode was stuff we don't get to see in the game, like we found out that there WAS a Frank, and it was pretty heavily suggested through a bunch of things that he and Bill were lovers, but we got none of the backstory so it was great to be able to see it. It was also great that a 'byproduct' of the episode was that we actually got to see a proper loving relationship between two gay people. Like, they weren't there just to be killed off or fridged or anything, they got a real, lasting love, and that was so refreshing. There's actually quite a bit that's been changed from the game, but all the changes so far (up to and including episode 5 atm) make perfect sense for TV. Like, with the way we're kinda 'stuck' seeing everything from Joel & Ellie's perspective in the game, the TV series has the opportunity to break away from that a lot more and show us things going on away from them.

about the clickers : "is it because their eyes are covered or did they just stop functionning" technically as the intro in ep01 said those mushrooms plan is to eat and replace the flesh of the host the description of the "clickers" infected is every part inside the skull got replaced by mushrooms, and it kept evolving inside it, increasing the skull pressure until it eventually exploded, splitting the skull in half from upper jaw to forehead, freeing the mushroom and letting him evolve around the skull technically the eyes stopped functionning when it exploded

I hope you do enjoy the show if you're going to keep watching it, would feel really bad if you were watching it with no enjoyment at all. It's absolutely gut-wrenching on a pretty regular basis but it is still utterly superb (comment left halfway through Nat's reaction to Ep 1)

I mean to be fair the fungi don't kill their hosts immediately, so unfortunately a lot of these infected are still alive and still in their head not being able to control anything that they can do. Which makes this even more terrifying

27:17 I road somewhere, maybe true maybe not, "the infection" only kills you violently if you resist, so she died """peacefully""" because she was standing still and calm, and that's the reason behind that scene. I love this show.

what a lot of people don't realise is how lucky joel and sarah were to not be infected. The pancake mix they didn't use, the biscuits they were offered, the cake joel forgot to buy, all of those could have infected them because they use flour and sugar.

Clickers are literally the only thing I found terrifying in the game. Truly nightmare inducing panic attack giving horrors. ALSO. As a gay guy who has always found Offerman REALLY attractive in a weird way... I'm so glad they did Bill some justice. In the game it was sort of a passing remark that didn't get clarification until a little later. (Something along the lines of "frank was my partner" and then ellie makes a sort of joke after they leave, when she finds a gay porn mag in the truck and says "why are all the pages sticky" *this is also going off of my memory of playing the game 8 years ago*) Offerman was the perfect cast for the roll IMO, and not just because it gave me the opportunity to watch him kiss a man. That relationship felt believable and natural Also... "I'm worried frank is gonna die and joel and ellie are gonna" yeah... That's actually how it happens in the game.

After the harrowing and, frankly, terrifying birth of my eldest, we were all home for a few weeks while mumma recovered. I got a beat up second hand PS3 and borrowed the game from a friend. The missus doesn't play this sort of thing, but loves to watch me play as she then gets the vicarious cinematic feels. I got to 'that bit' with Sarah, paused the game and just sat with my head in my hands for a few minutes before turning to her and admitting, "I don't think I'm strong enough to play this right now." And just when I was over it (by a few years), I went and watched the show. 🙃

Glad you enjoyed it, Natalie! The clickers in the museum are very accurate to the game. Tough as fuck, can zero in on you by sound alone, can "see" you by echo-location if you move while in line of sight of their "clicking" noises, and move so wildly when attacking they are hard to shoot even at close range. If one gets too close to you in the game it grabs you and you die, unlike runners you can hit and punch to get them off you. Bill and Frank. Such a magnificent episode. It surprised all of us, game fans included. In the game Bill is a grumpy comic-relief character who accompanies Joel and Ellie through a long mission of crossing town and fighting off infected to retrieve spare parts. His relationship with Frank is not happy. I'll leave it at that. Suffice to say this is a major re-work of the couple, and although game-version Bill (played by W. Earl Brown) was done really well, he's much more of a tragic loner you pass by and can only assume went out of this world crazy and alone. I much prefer this one in terms of actual story. HBO Bill and Frank have a lot more to say about humanity than game-Bill does.

The beauty of episode three is that it subverts our expectations. We've been conditioned through modern storytelling to fear everything, especially the benign, the innocuous. Dolls, children, children with dolls, dolls that look like children, all manner of seemingly harmless and familiar things, all trying to kill you. We expect that any kindness will be answered with violence, that any trust met with betrayal. We as an audience have been primed to fear the most faithful of friends, the most reliable family members - especially in this particular genre of horror - and when we encounter a story about caring and commitment amongst the ruins of a dying world, we don't know how to process it and it hits hard. "I was not expecting this" seems to be the most common refrain, with good reason. This is ostensibly a series about a 'zombie apocalypse' where anyone and everyone can go from being a kindred soul to a mortal threat in an instant and no one is to be trusted, especially other humans. Yet this particular tale is about trust, and love, both matrimonial and romantic. It's about allowing oneself to be vulnerable and in that vulnerability, finding those moments of existence that are both ephemeral and priceless. We expect a calamity, a personal buskin beyond the destruction of our civilization. We anticipate a type of misfortune that doesn't occur. During the worst catastrophe in the history of human kind, we bear witness the best thing to ever happen to these two humans, and it's profound; jarring. We await a devastation that never comes to pass; that expectation of tragedy is subverted by a story of love. We expect blood and destruction; what we get is a masterpiece about small, beautiful lives lived less ordinary. This is one of the best stories ever told on film, in my opinion, and it's based on a video game; we've come a long way from Pong.

So happy you get to experience this now too, without having the need for the playstation (but still play it anyway when you can on PC).

I think that was the shortest "Wrap-Up" In Natalie Gold history. 😂 honestly, totally understandable. This show has done a masterful job with... well, just about everything. I never played the games, so watching the post episode commentaries and some RU-vid stuff helped fill in and inform the nuanced stuff. But even without the supplementary material, it all just works. Personal bias aside (largely genre related), I buy everything the writers are serving. The cinematography, set design, and sound design are beautifully executed. The actors performances have been astounding. Episode 3, in particular, had me completely invested. Had my attention right away with Bill and Frank's story. I cant think of another show that has dedicated such a dominant portion of an episode to a tertiary sub-plot , for the express purpose of developing support characters, THAT DONT EVEN FEATURE IN THE MAIN PLOT! That's WILD and it WORKED! You could cut out the Joel/Ellie parts and still be left with a perfect story. As Bill would say, "I'm satisfied." Can hardly wait for Part 2 :)

what makes this series soo good is it follows the video game so closely but they have made change to give a rich backstory to elements from the game. not to mention the acting and the practical and CGI special effects are better than some AAA movies with millions of a budget.
