I never comment, but this is bring back memories. I'm 45, and I played this back in middle school when it first came out. We would all struggle for hours on different levels and finding secret areas. Then we would all go to school and talk about what we all found the day before (before internet days). So it really felt like we were all playing it together and it became a social event at lunch. How you're playing it, was exactly how the designer wanted you to play it, by exploring and not following game strats. Thanks for the memories.

Just want to add, it's actually not nearly as much of a "guide game" as people say it is. It's just really easy to forget about the existence of instruction manuals, which this game absolutely expects you to read because it has a lot of useful information to point you in a direction at the start. It doesn't tell you the entire game, but the game itself provides enough direction to get you by once you get going. Which is why I find it hilarious when people say BOTW and TOTK are based on "that feeling of getting lost in the first game", because you weren't really supposed to get lost. Hell, the game does everything it can to keep you on the right track, short of outright railroading you. Did you know the dungeons in this game have names? Probably not, because all they say in the game itself is "Level 1", "Level 2", etc. Because that information is far more useful to someone trying to play the dungeons in the intended order... which means the game absolutely did have an intended progression order. Which wouldn't be the case if you were supposed to get lost and wander in any direction. Buuuuuuut I digress. Point is, this is actually one of the most well-conveyed adventure games on the NES.

It’s easy to overlook the first game of a big series, and the original Legend of Zelda is no different. When people think of a classic Zelda game they usually bring up A Link to the Past or Ocarina of Time, but the original still has a special place in my heart.

Wow, he's the first person in history to actually make money from the money making game, he truly is a legend.

You buying the key hurt so much, haha! The one headed dragon is Aquamentus, Gleeok is the three headed one. Also, not only do not all bombable walls have cracks, some walls you can literally walk through them after walking into them for a couple seconds.

How of all games is this one that you haven't played. Nostalgia is real here, I can still remember a ton of the secret locations.

The shield is bigger and offers more defence from shop. Definitely want candle, not just for light. Green bushes that seem out of place or Sus, shoot fire from candle. It will sometimes reveal a secret or open a way

In for more of this! I tried playing this blind for the first time a few months back and only made it to about the 4th dungeon before i had to look things up online.

It is possible to avoid obtaining the Heart Container in Level 1 to accomplish the 3 heart run. It involves getting behind the Aquamentus by purposely getting hit and using the temporary invulnerability to get behind it, then finish off the boss from there.

I recently did my first real playthrough of this too, but I used a guide the whole time and instead of the actual NES version I did "The Legend of Doom" mod for OG Doom. Whole LoZ recreated in first person in Doom. Was quite fun

9:28 those things moving around the room are called wisps or jinxes and they prevent you from using your sword or items

I'm not an expert at Zelda ,but I suggest getting a huge piece of paper ( like a meme from a Chinese food restaurant and turn it over to the blank side) and you draw each room and that way you won't have to accidentally go through the same rooms 10x because you know what's there already and can explore new areas of the map.

⚠️ PS: When you encounter a locked door ask yourself “Have I picked up a key yet in this dungeon? If not I’d suggest you look for one before proceeding even if you have keys in inventory from other locations. Using keys across dungeons is permitted but kinda dangerous and can make it difficult to proceed when you discover you missed something and must backtrack. Each Dungeon can be completed with keys found inside it. Keep this in mind: When you enter a dungeon for the first time note how many keys you have going in; you should have at least that many when you complete it. If not you likely missed key drops by using keys from another dungeon that you may need if you have to return to it (even if you think you’re done)

There's for sure some obtuse things (getting to level 4 and 7, most of the second quest), but I think most of the game is very playable without a guide

Your shield will block spears and rocks. You can upgrade to block more projectiles. Just be facing the projectile and don't attack. You found the lost woods, you have to find the right path through the lost woods. You spent so much time with low health next to a fairy fountain. If you only knew. The rock formation you found is something. That is all I'll say for now. Small keys can be used a crossed all dungeons. I would suggest not buying them as there are enough in the dungeons. The shield is an upgrade. Be careful though, like likes will steal it. Ah, you also found the Lost Mountain. I believe a 5 heart run is the fewest. 8 pieces of the Triforce of Wisdom. You have to buy the arrows from a shop. Then it cost 1 ruby (rupee) every time you fire. It is a subscription service for arrows.

I don't know, man. I made it all the way to Ganon when i was 6 without the Nintendo power. I immediately gave food to the Grumble Grumble guy. Granted, I didnt know i needed the silver arrow and just constantly locked myself in with Ganon thinking he should die eventually. Now Metroid, that's a cryptic game.

Played this for days as a kid, and now looking back, it definitely taught valuable lessons about gambling and getting scammed by old ladies! 🤣🤣

That's my favorite, I absolutely love this game. I remember going square by square and drawing the map with all it's hidden secrets with my brother and when we found the step ladder, we freaked out because, not knowing how to get through the lost woods at the time, it opened a whole new world. I also love the master quest, which I was only able to beat much later as an adult.

Enemies in this game are: octoroks, leevers, peahats, moblins, armos, gels, zols, zoras, bubbles, like-likes, wizzrobes, vires, keese, ropes, lanmolas, tektites, goriyas, darknuts, lynels, gibdos, stalfos, pols voice, and ghini. I think I might only be missing one, had to really stretch my memory to come up with ghini instead of poe. Don't know if you want to know about the bosses

If you tear it down. Many enemies don't exist anymore. The style of enemies has change dramatically. And things like the dungeons (which use to be 9 and is now 4) had keys and such. Now it just 4 puzzles. The game is SOOO different

Oh and in dungeon one (or level-1) the name of the boss is call aqua-something. The one from TORK is in i think dungeon (or level-) 4 and 6 or 5 and 7.

To avoid the heart in the first dungeon you have to damage boost through the boss to get to the other side of it before you kill it. At least, I recall it being something like that.

Master this and use it means beating ALL the dungeons. 1, then 2, you did 3, find 4. Find the 1st 2 and beat them before you do 4 just to be on track.

That's not really surprising honestly. It's a game that's just been covered to death but at the same time that's the main reason it would not be played by somebody as well for video. Good on you for remembering that you haven't done this game.

It is false that Zelda is a guide game or Nintendo Power game. There is enough information to beat the game, but finding somethings may be difficult. The intent was that it would foster exploration and discussions with friends. Sadly in this day, people to quickly turn to guides. Use one where you need to, but as long as you are willing to explore, you will be rewarded. Also, while things might not initially be explained, you can find answers in the world. Also, the symbol of the third dungeon is called a Manji, it is a Buddhist symbol that predated a similar looking one. Just for people that might not know.

A 3 heart run also means a wooden sword run... good luck ;p

About time! Are you going to do the second quest? Name your character Zelda. Some of the secrets are quite challenging. The main quest is a little too easy for someone of your skill.

Fun fact: Level - 3 is shaped as a Sauvastika. This is a symbol of night and tantric aspects of Kali in Hinduism. It is the anti-clockwise variant of the Hindu Swastika which is a symbol of the sun, prosperity and good luck. The swastika was and still is a positive sign in many religions and it was unfortunately ruined by the 45° rotation as appropriated by the Nazi party and the neo-nazis. The original swastika/sauvastika has good intentions and we should keep it that way in support of the religions that see it positively. I am not Hindu or another religion with the good Swastika but they still deserve support! Have a lovely day guys!

I am 50 Years old now...... I hope you young people understand the UTTER JOY..... SHEER NIRVANA.... of plopping that "GOLDEN" cartridge into a brand new Nintendo in 1987. Remember kids... all we had was ATARI at that point. ATARI!!! It was awesome, but Zelda blew our minds.

This should be a breeze, I vaguely recall a brutal randomized version of this game happening on this channel and it just seemed evil. This game starts to get tough maybe around dungeon 6 - but hey, if LTTP is your favorite Zelda game, have to play this at least once. It is where everything began. EDIT - Oh, this is a three heart, no-hints, first time run? I retract that part about this being a breeze.
