I watched the whole game and every single time Demidov was on the ice, he made something happen. I've never seen this done by a Habs prospect in a draft year. The guy is an absolute gem.
Habs fan in Thailand. My 2 cents… I can’t believe that we got the best, most skilled player at #5 in the draft. Hughes and company are building the nucleus for a truly competitive if not championship level team for the future. Some near term challenges exist however that Hughes will address namely, Anderson, Dvorak, Armia and sadly Gallagher contracts. The fwd talent pool is exciting to say the least but I’m concerned about Dach. He’s immensely talented but can’t stay off IR. Also the lack of real sandpaper playoff type fwds needs to be addressed. The loads of young talented prospects need room soon to showcase their potential at the NHL level. If we wait too long their value as trade bait for future acquisitions will fade. On D we have again immense potential. I live the direction this us going. However the same abundance predicament exists here. In nets…. It’s just not good enough but we have time. I think passing in Askarov was a mistake. Anyways, looking fwd to the upcoming season with great anticipation. The playoffs may be out of reach but not by much. I trust in Hughes and Gorton to continue to build a future championship team. Go Habs Go!
I will repeat again, the Habs have the #1 best future in terms of prospects and what we have currently have on the team. Screw these guys they always under appreciate the Habs on these articles
They need two more top 6 forwards dach and laine will not be part of this dynasty. Flames will suck this year which means most likely two top 10 picks in a forward loaded draft. Man the future looks so bright in Montreal
It will be such a treat to finally even slightly project a true goal scorer on the team. Not since Kovalev and his magic hands.Seeing the similarities here. Also Hutson will add so much excitement on the offensive side from a defensman.I used to coach minor hockey years ago and you always wanted that . And a laser from the point.Thats Arber for this team and his fisicallity on top of that. Finally they have put together players that will do these things.Shame it’s after Carey is long gone.Too bad.Enjoy your videos, first time I have commented.
I live in New England n I've seen Huston many games. I feel he has some great skills n h we excitement on the ice. These analyst are filed w ignorance. They don't like smaller guys w skill screw them. He will be amazing
Hi Josh, there are occasions when I sometimes disagree with you and Jesse however regarding Pronman's rating of Habs prospects I agree with you 100%. His analysis regarding Guhle and Reinbacher were also harsh. How he rated Slaf as NHL average compete level is beyond me. Most outrageous comments IMO were about Jacob Fowler. He says Fowler is undersized despite being listed on Hockey DB as 6'2" and 212 lbs! Really! He then goes on to say that he looks at least like a backup goalie. Really! Button and McGuire consider him a can't miss starter which is good enough for me. Lastly, like many I have watched Demidov's highlights and his skating ability might not be high end however IMO he is at least NHL average. Pronman sees a potential top line winger as we all do so to be one certainly his skating skills are not be below average. In any case Habs have skating coaches who will help to improve Demidov's and others skating proficiency.
So the guy likes his goalies 6'6? Kinda dumb to limit your views on players like that. Price is 6'3 is he too small as well? Wow thanks for pointing that out since I don't have a sub to the athletic.
@@DiasBenes No problem and I agree with you. I was able to get The Athletic for $1 a month my 1st year and they offered a deal at something like $7.99 for the entire 2nd year so if you are interested there are deals.
They gotta put Demidov with Suzuki. That would be insane! All they need is a trigger man. That would be Laine. That should be the top line in the playoffs. Yes, we are making the playoffs. Demidov will be wearing a Habs jersey for the last 10 games or so of this season. He's crazy good! He should have gone 1st. Cheers
Demidov is probably the best player since Jack Eichel on his inside edges. He’s mastered the anchor mechanic and if you watch any of his highlight reel goals you can see him using it. The technique is very deceptive and great for puck control…and to say he has “below average skating” is a ridiculous statement. Whoever wrote that article probably never played hockey
The best top prospect ranking by far is Habs Eyes on the Prize. The way it's done is via a panel of people instead of one guy. This one by Pronman was inferior to Habs Eyes on the Prize top 25 under 25. Not sure if he had input from Arpon Basu, if not he should have. Seems like he was using older data.
Loving what Demidov is doing. He is the best have prospect in my lifetime. Can't wait for him to join the Habs. So we think that goal was on purpose? Looked like he lost the handle and got lucky. If not, that was dirty AF.
It's all subjective opinions about the prospects from Pronman's point of view. It's what he thinks about them. If you were to ask 10 experts to do the exact kind of list, it would, without a doubt, 10 completely different lists. Some players would be similar, but at the end of the day, It would be different.
Don't buy into a lot of these writers, no one is perfect. The future hasn't been written. Be optimistic, there has been a high focus on the character of these players
This year's excellent draft has had zero effect on the Habs. Defence has potential, but Team Defense is beyond pathetic at this point. They lost their best d-man on PK. They have the worst PK in the league-nothing has been done to improve that.
I'm still highly skeptical bout SKA... I'll believe it when i see it but for now i fully expect Demidov to start with SKA... on the bench. :x or play 4-5 minutes a game tops.
I have watched every game of that Tournament. That is not the first goal Demidov scored with the exact same move. I also watched him pick-pocket Kuznetsov lol. 16 days until the prospects game! GO HABS GO!
You know we’re ( Habs )coming back when the haters getting their hate on. In 3-4 years with excellent asset management, we’re bringing the cup back home!
When you evaluate too much of anything you start to loose your bearings. Progman shoudk have done a review when he was done. I read there article and fire sure there are some inconsistencies. Hutson average with the puck??? Wtf
The Athletic is about the worst source for any information you can get 😂 Who cares what these so called experts think. We have eyes. We have knowledge. We have just as much credentials these guys do. Canadiens are top 3 and getting better. Dynasty in the making. Mark this reply. Multiple cups coming sooner than you think. We have it all now. 3 great lines. And a 4th that will eventually be the best in the league. Great 3 Pairs of incredible D Two incredible Goalie prospects and two good Goalies to get us to them. Future is so bright I’ve never seen anything like it since their hay days. Can’t wait to watch them start the playoff run this year. Maybe even shock the world earlier than expected. Damn I’m pumped. 🙏
Corey Pronman is a reporter. I think his lists mean very little tbh. He may read and write a lot about hockey but from my knowledge he has never played the game, been a scout or coach. He sells clicks.
Beck was one of the few OHL players who could shoot off the rush and overpower goalies. During parts of last season, Saginaw had Beck play on the left half boards during the power play. Beck, who was fed by Parkeh, was a menace to opposing goalies, showing a better one-timer than many of Montreal's other, more heralded forward prospects. He will make the NHL because of his compete level, skill, leadership qualities, explosive skating and his shot, which will be above NHL average.
Owen Becks shot is better than those guys, so that's not a hill to die on. Lane Hudson's shot is not above NHL average, and Damidov's hockey sense is way above NHL average
Lane Hutson NHL average puck skills, that's a good one. He nearly broke David Perron's ankle during his first game in the NHL. That Pronman guy is just trying to ragebait.
To put Roy as 14th on our own prospect list, and rating Hutson as 'NHL average' on puck skills, just shows that this guy doesn't know what he's talking about. He's looking around the league and seeing various things, and trying to summarize. All good. But from my perspective (and Connor Bedard's, which matters much more) Roy has the hockey sense to be a productive middle-six kind of player in the NHL for many years. And as skeptical as I still am that Hutson can translate his obvious skills to the NHL level because of his size, there's *NO* way he has less than average puck skills!! WTF?? His puck skills are the ONE thing that might open up a spot for him. They're in the stratosphere!!!
I completely agree with you Tony. I am also annoyed that Kapanen was rated so low and if you have access to The Athletic you will have seen how he rated Fowler. IMO Pronman didn't do his homework.
I don't have access to The Athletic. And I'm not willing to pay for it because for hockey in general they rarely have anything sensible to say. I'm happier to come here to Josh and Jesse's site and appreciate how they send us daily updates on all things Habs and offer their always optimistic take on everything.
I’m tempering my expectations on Demidov because every single indication imaginable led me to believe Galchenyuk would be our franchise player and never happened
Roy is one of Montreal's most overrated prospects. With Suzuki, Caufield, Dach, Slafkovsky and Laine taking 5 of the top 6 forward spots, Demidov and Hage on the horizon, Montreal having 3 first round and 4 second round choices over the next two years and Hughes probably adding a high scoring forward by free agency, Roy has little chance making the top two lines. With his limited skating ability, I see little future for this offence orientated player. I doubt he's Montreal's property in 25/26. We will have much better options.
I hope you know not every player will pan out. Also you can have a 2nd line calibre player on the 3rd line, especially when they’re on their elc making no money. That’s called incredible depth. Roy is underrated not overrated. Reminds me of Toffoli.
