Sling: also the Bellroy Venture Ready 2.5L, but given a sling is the one carry item I don't leave the house w/o, I sometimes get bored and switch to the Alpaka Go Nano Large pack/one bag travel: PD Travel Backpack 45L if I'm bringing my camera / Aer TP3 35L X-pac if I'm not EDC: Able Carry Daily Plus Camera & drone bag: PD Everyday Backpack Zip 20L Tote: PD packable tote (I always have it on me, even in my small sling) Tech pouch: PGYTech mini tech organizer Dopp kit: Matador FlatPak toiletry case / PD small washpouch depending what will fit better in my bag when I pack
I prefer the YOREPEK Travel Backpack, Extra Large 50L Laptop Backpack. I've used for both local and overseas trips and it works great!. Has a USB port, is water resistant and fairly ruggedly built with a strap to attach it to your rolling luggage. I did add a cross strap to make it more comfortable for me to use but others might not need it. It has a 4.7 rating from over 44K reviews and only costs $28. $28 bucks!!
@Nomads.Nation I hear that. One thing I'll mention is that when considering the Aer 35L version, it must be judged including the optional padded waist belt. It makes a massive difference in carry comfort.
I'm really happy with your review style and having that little timer in the corner which hasn't changed since the beginning, a brilliant unique touch! Glad to have followed you since near the beginning! Glad to see you guys doing well! You deserve it with your great reviews!! 👏🏼👏🏼
I like these list type videos, I'm with you on that venture ready sling, I've tried a lot of slings and its definately my favorite small one. I also use a lot of single strap briefcase/messengers for everyday work commutes and also like a softer, less structured bag, feels nicer at ones side. One of the ones in my rotation similar to the aer is the Bellroy Via Work bag, its a nice light, simple brief.
I travel on airplanes. I don’t like excess webbing or even straps when I must put my bag under my seat in front. So I’m always looking for stowable shoulder straps or at the least excess length webbing storage elastics or tuckable inside the attachment material. Nice video. Thank you for the efforts and obsession to details.
For the sling/messenger I love the ALPAKA bravo max sling . It’s so comfy even fully loaded and a perfect way to carry both MacBook Air 13+ iPad Pro 12.9+keyboard at the same time . It’s very snuggly and unlike other big slings the weight is super distributed . I just pimped it with wandrd pullers that you can purchase separately and are imho the best pullers ever ! Oh and I added a homemade 20cm elastic Leech where I attached a peak design anchor link to have blazing fast key holder access
What’s the best ~30L bag with no laptop compartment? Looking for a personal item that can just straight maximize the amount of clothes I can put in there
I actually have no idea - basically all the bags I review have laptop/tech compartments. Hopefully I can start to check out more bags like this in the future
A suggestion for you: As I'm preparing for a budget travel trip in Europe, I realize that it would be super handy to have a bag review that focuses on bags that one could take on Spirit, Frontier, RyanAir, Wizz, JetStar, etc., as a personal item bag. I mean, i would LOVE to take my PD Travel 45L, or my Aer Travel Pack 3, or my Minaal 3, but I doubt they would cut it on those budget airlines. But given all the bags you've reviewed, which ones would you use if you had to fly personal-item only on those budget carriers? I'd love to get your take and suggestions! :-)
My good man, where do we stand on the best business EDC? Still chasing the holy grail that kills it on primary focus with laptop plus tech organisation AND has versatility for the occasional overnight business trip? Help a brother across the pond! 🙏🏽
Aer Flight Pack 3! I’ve been on the look out for this exact same thing (going by your description). I’m UK. Settled on this - it’s ace. You might like Troubadour goods (very sophisticated looking and business like. They have one called the Daytripper, it looks ace and feels well made but the inside doesn’t have great organisation and the pockets gape loads (laptop falls nearly 45 degrees inside). 100 day returns, no hassle, they were great. There’s a brand called 3 Peaks GBR. They have a weekender which fits the bill of laptop / EDC / overnight. Clamshell opening. But it feels much lower grade than the kind of thing Aaron reviews. Topo Designs global briefcase (quite techy/outdoorsy look). Waterfield Designs have some very businessy EDC bags, but they’re made in SF and import duties make them very very exxy. Could find one on eBay. Filson 24hr ? I love the 3-way flexibility of the Aer Flight Pack 3. Although do be aware - it’s orientated as a rucksack so you need to be OK with standing it up on its end if you’re going to carry it briefcase style predominately. Also doesn’t stand up on its own. It’s my pick tho. Hope you find the one for you.
its very true, that's why I'm starting to travel with a super small/light 20 liter bag + sling and that's it. It's going to be the only guaranteed way to one bag travel soon
I went to Japan in May last year (2023) using my Lowe Alpine 40 L carry-on bag with KLM who had a 12 kg weight limit. I packed it with my tech, toiletries, reading materials and spare clothes just-in-case as family members and friends had had issues with luggage when international travel recommenced post pandemic. Lo and behold my main suitcase doesn't appear on the carousel at Narita, and I had to live out of the carry-on bag until reunited several days later! I'm going again this year using Emirates and they have a 7 kg weight limit for carry-ons. So I hope I don't end up in a similar situation.
to me - one bag travel backpack is smaller because the goal is to ALWAYS fit it under the seat in front of you. Large Travel Bags (like the Tortuga) are a hit or a miss - many airlines in Europe or Asia might make you check them
Love the video! I hope to see a comparison video of the aer tech sling 2 and 3! Bummed Black Ember didnt make it anywhere in here, definitely my favorite! Can't wait to get my hands on Fyro though... gonna be a killer bag!
Wouldn't large travel packs and one bag travel packs be the same category? It's actually more likely to not take a 2nd bag, the larger your "main" one is. Also have you tried the PD packable tote? Packs about as small as the Day Owl, but is super easy to compress back in its pocket, handle has some padding and the material is super nice (as usual with PD) and doesn't look wrinkled even right after unpacking it.
For One Bag Travel the goal is to be able to fit it under the seat in front of you so you never have to check it. But for larger travel packs you have to accept that some airlines will make you check it
@@Nomads.Nation IMO the goal is to not have to check it, but whether it fits under the seat or in the overhead bin doesn't matter. And a 45L bag will fit in the overhead bin. So yes, I've had to pay extra for it on budget airlines, because only a personal item bag that fits under the seat is included, but never had to check it. It's a bit more expensive in some cases, but except for that, all the convenience/time savings are there just the same. Oh and on most EU budget airlines a 30L bag is already way over their personal item size.
@@houserhythm good points and I agree with your sentiment, but if the goal is to NEVER check your bag, then it has to fit under the seat in front of you. Reason being airlines sometimes run out of room in the overhead bin and will force you to check your bag (it's happened to me at least 3-4 times). Also, sometimes there won't be space in the overhead bins in your area, meaning you have to store it somewhere else on the plane, which creates extra risks/complications. Are these unlikely scenarios? Sort of. But at the end of the day they do happen so technicallyyyy speaking if you never want to be apart from your bag, it has to fit under the seat in front of you. It's the only guarantee.
I have the original Peak design messenger bag, and while adore it. It's showing its age. I haven't upgraded because the newer models removed a favourite feature of the zip to access inside the main compartment, leaving only the laptop zip. Rather disappointed they removed this convenience
@@Nomads.Nation It's definitely an incredibly sturdy bag. Though it is definitely fraying quite a bit of the seams. I'm modified it to have a little slip so I can put it on my luggage handles, I wonder if that will revoke my lifetime guarantee 😅
@@Nomads.Nation When I was repacking my City Pack Pro the other day, I noticed that the branding on the packing cubes is basically the same as the Pro Collection. I nearly threw it across the room in disgust.

Does the release of the Aer Travel 3 Ultra change your assessment? As far as I can see it (3.7 lb ~ 1.7 kg) is now a fair little bit lighter than the Able Carry Max (3.9 ~ 1.8 kg).
@@Nomads.Nation Interesting. I know this is personal preference, but for you, if put on the spot, would the Aer Travel 3 Ultra or Minaal Carry-On 3.0 come out top for you currently?
Can’t go wrong with either. Let that front panel of the ATP3 decide it for you. I don’t use that so that’s why I prefer the Max, but if you like that extra organization go for it
I have both, and prefer the ATP3 35L. The compression straps can slim it down if not completely full, and the extra 5L made a positive difference. Better admin pocket too, and water bottle pocket that doesn't eat into the main space of the bag. The one thing I prefer with the Able Carry Max is the loop to hang in public bathroom stalls. You can kind of manage to do the same with the ATP3 though.
Excellent review as always, Aaron! My investment is in several AER products, and no regrets, thanks to your long ago reviews, Aaron. Open to what the future market brings, but at my age, I'm good 👍😎
Thanks for sharing, Aaron! I always like seeing what you have to say My current line up: Laptop Bag: Tom Bihn Side Kick... OK, this only works with a Surface Go 2, or a GPD Pocket 3... But if you use either of those, it's great... Also doubles pretty well as a tech pouch, or as a day sling Tech Pouch: If not the Side Kick, then honestly just a good old fashioned Topo Designs Accessory Bag Dopp Kit: Also the Topo Accessory Daily Carry: I've also recently gotten into messengers... I can't decide between the Boundary Rennen Shoulder Bag (not the tote), or the Timbuk2 Classic... Hard to go wrong with custom options... These both do Laptop carry very well... Rennen maxes out around 13 inch devices, and the Timbuk2 has size options. One Bag Travel: Tom Bihn Addax... Either size is just right, and the top loading aspect and the build quality address concerns about both zipper integrity and metro security. Next bag I want: The Fyro... You got me hyped for it!
What a wonderful video! Saved!!! I am a big ALPAKA Fan, as they look kinda smooth enough for the office, but are well thought of and work for travel and day trips too. I also have their tech pouch.
Hey Nomads, just wondering if you can review July carry all backpack.. I think you had reviewed a lot of good backpack but not July.. Just curious what’s your thoughts about it. Thanks..👍
Shupatto would blow the Day Owl out of the water in terms of groceries tote, can easily fold back, tidy, less messy, stores better, wider selection of size and colours. Got mine from Hong Kong's Japanese import stores.
Wait a sec, I thought the latest version FYRO bakcpack just compromised "clam shell" to be able to "stand alone." What is going on, are we having the old or new version?
I am looking for a Personal Item bag that I can pack all my travel items, including clothes. That seems to be the way air travel is going, as carry on fees are being applied for many budget airlines. Maybe a new category??? Thanks for the great review!
The Pakt second gen travel backpack removed the hip belt. Frankly an odd decision considering they increased the size to 45l and one that original collaborator Chase Reeves was not too happy about.
I'd love to know if you reviewed the cotopaxi allpa 35l for a travel backpack and what your thoughts are for the love bags stash-it totes -- these are my go-to travel carries.
Love the video! Best travel backpack for an overnight gig musician; over ear headphones laptop wires memory keys ,washbag 1 T-shirt and bottoms underwear socks for show , passport access, budget airline under seat friendly. Currently have a Tucano. 😅
@@MentalHealtt ah got it, thanks for editing your original comment to be clearer. Be sure to check out this video - ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE--tulfE90zzQ.html or this video - ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-6bXdOvJReC0.html
@@Nomads.Nation brilliant thank you, i watched those (they are a bit big for Ryanair :) i am considering the aer 3 small, Alpaka, or Fyro , will be sure to use your links. thanks again!
My Fyro bag will have lockable zippers on every compartment, hidden back panel pockets for your wallet, and a hidden vault for Airtag and backup credit card… what more would you like?
@@Nomads.Nation Then that might be perfect! I am used to motorcycle bags that have only 1 zipper tucked behind your back. Not a style you might like for the street but the Ogio mach 5 is what we use on sportbikes.
have purchased several of the bags in this video and cant say i agree with any your choices for myself. the best combo for my travel is an aer travel 3 in 35L with the aer tech pouch and thule compression cubes, and the tomtoc explorer 7L sling.
Able Carry packs are Ggggreat! Have one and love it! Travel pack and One Bag Travel Pack categories, aren't they essentially the same category? Pakit pack are nice but no substantial hip belts makes it a no-go - for a travel pack, seems a like a big miss. Tortuga makes the best travel pack by far in my book.
"Travel pack and One Bag Travel Pack the same" - I think that's a good point, maybe I should have just seperated them into 'medium travel bag' and 'large travel bag'
I’m not sure how much space “medical tools” take up but I think most of the bags on this video should be good - ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-yh1yEC4nw5c.htmlsi=bpgcwNuTqNyRci1u
I was so disappointed the Minaal Carry-On 3.0 wasn’t in the list until joy at the end! The Able Carry Max is just so much smaller that I don’t like the laptop compartment in. To me the Able Carry Max is a large EDC or small Travel backpack. The Minaal is the perfect size for me. The truth is they’re all so good. Can’t wait to get my hands on that Fyro T22!
Loving the alpaca vertex my new favorite carry but only with the fidloc strap… really don’t like the strap that comes with it. Still on the fence with the tortuga with the white interior. I’m very concerned about using it on budget airlines I don’t want to check it. Will it squeeze into smaller spaces (compressible) or is it structured?
Have had literally every bag on this list. However, you're doing a disservice to your viewers and yourself by not trying/including the Evergoods CTB 26, CTB 35 and CPL 24 (as well as all the other Evergoods products). IMHO, amazing fit and finish especially in the XPAC versions. Great review as always. Thank you. Fyro is sweet as well!!
Thanks mate! We only include bags we’ve reviewed in our roundups and I just got the CTB26 in the mail yesterday - I have a feeling it’ll be in future travel bag roundups
I loved your review on the Peak Design Everyday BP 20L. I just purchased one primarily from watching your review. Did you consider it for best EDC? What if you added a category for best camera pack. Would you have placed it as your top pick? Thanks for the great content!
Hi Aaron, I've watched a significant number of reviewers and love your reviews. Quick opinion question: 2-3 days max office travel so dress shirts, must fit Sony WH 1000 MX5's with easy accessibility. Torn btwn Tortuga, Aer 3 or Transit. And it's hard to guess on size. Dress shirts are harder to pack than t-shirts, which is all I see online.
Thanks dude! I can't say with 100% certainty, but you should be able to get away with the Aer Travel Pack 3 Small. If you need more space, then the Aer Travel Pack 3 Regular might be a better pick, but you'd be overpacking in my opinion lol
How about a convertible wheeled/backpack carry-on shootout? Maybe that goes against your bag ethos (Wheels bad!)....just picked up the Eagle Creek Expanse Convertible Carry-On. Will test it out.
@@Nomads.Nation the expanse is 5.25 lbs for 38L carry. Alpaka Shift V2 35L (tab i have open) - is 3.63 lbs + 10% for 38L. So the wheels add 1.25 lbs. Aer TP3 - 35L = 4.12 lbs. So that 1.25 is even less with that comparison. Of course, with Expanse - need to factor in extra weight for any equivalent admin/org/tech padding. (0.5lb?) I can't imagine Expanse is as comfy -- but it won't be on my back for very long (Air travel pack). Both styles have their time & place.
I'm a 73 year old Australian frequent traveller....6 trips a year.... Not really into back packs and for many years used STM trust bag as personal carry on... But these days use a Thule crossover 2 bag that meets Asian and Europe personal bag dimensions... Worth a look if you haven't seen...
Bellroy’s Venture line has been so great since day 1. I find myself so drawn to the hand feel of their products compared to solely choosing based on durability or textile strength alone. Also can totally relate to the love for the CAP2. Evergoods has a gem with that one. Lastly, I’m genuinely surprised Peak Design Travel Backpack 45L has not been updated more than 5 years later. It was an early favorite of mine, but there were some obvious and I thought easily fixable things that haven’t happened still that in my opinion hold it back.
Fyro! Take my money already. The Bellroy Venture Ready 2.5 Sling has become my favorite travel companion. Many Airlines seem to consider it as part of my clothing.
My personal item bag of choice is a tie between the Pacsafe Vibe 325 or the Aer Day Sling 3 Max, depending on whether I need the laptop or not. Superb bags both of them, well designed, great looking and super practical
Can't wait for Fyro to launch. Bought the Alpaka elements in the meantime. It looks stylish and very compact, but feels really small and tight overall.
thanks so much! and it will be a short list of zero backpacks dude, at least that I know of, most bags can only fit up to a 16", a few can fit a 17", but I've never even heard of a 19"
Overall, great review! I'm slightly obsessed with the Mous Xtreme commuter lol, so it would have been nice to see a Tech Nomad EDC or something similar. Excited for your new Fyro backup. Best of luck!! 😀
I think the Nomatic Travel Pack is the most versatile. Sure it maybe doesn’t one thing particularly as well as say others, but its definitely very usable across multiple categories.
Aaron, love your vids! One thing I need help! I need a work everyday backpack. I'm 6’4” so I don't want it too big, but not too small that it looks like a child’s backpack. Lol. Any suggestions? Comfort is key though.. Thanks!
Aaron @Nomads.Nation, Ive settled on three bags to choose from the Able Carry Daily Plus-Xpac, Boundary Errant X-pac, or the DAYFARER V2 BACKPACK. In you opinion which is the most comfortable and best features for a 6’4” male taking it to work? Thanks for the opinion. -Jim
@@jamesmeyer2365 most comfortable = Able Carry. Best features = depends but probably slightly leaning towards Modern Dayfarer. 6'4 = all the same size basically
Awesome Video. I agree the Able Cary 13 Backpack rocks. Modern Dayfarer backpack v2 looks like it can pack alot and not lose its slim look. The peak design everyday messenger may be the one for me to purchase this year 🔥
I watch all the big name reviewers and like them all, Aaron. Who is my top reviewer for the year.....same as last year.......you! Thanks for all that you do, Aaron. This vid was one of your most entertaining, too. It put several smiles on my 6 a.m. face. Not east to do at all! I liked all the bags that won your top honors (that I've seen or own) but my favorite overall bag that I use 200 or more days a year is the Defy Insideous jr. sling. It gives overbuilt a whole new level and looks as new now as day 1. The strap is so good on this one that I think I'd use this bag even if it didn't have a bag portion. It is that nice. It also gets a lot of compliments which I must admit I do like receiving.
@@Nomads.Nation so maybe I should look into the Pro Pack 20L instead. Very similar price too. Edit: although I much prefer the design of the city pack.
