I agree with you on the poly braid, more visible. Make sure your fence is good and hot, Maybe adding a second wire when their young would teach them to respect the fence. So they don't challenge it as teen agers. I really like the galloway"s & that new bull you got is a beauty!!

Yes, the braid packs more of a wallup. I'd keep the wire to use as a lower wire for a bit to keep them from being able to duck under and train the new calfs to respect the wire. It would also help to use it as a backup fence when you need a lane. Recognizing your frustration and creating a solution is a good practice.

Great to see you back Seán. Delighted that your home county did the business. Someone commented that you should put your breakaways into a tight strong fencer area. I know it works saw it done years ago. All looking good. . Did you spread the supersoil.????

Sean, great to see you back. Your experience highlights the value of continually breeding for positive traits and sending beasts with negative traits on their way. Giving the herd leeway only seems to make problems and hard work for you in the long run. You are so sympathetic to your animals but for your own sake, and the herd’s too, you have to make the tough decisions. Keep the videos coming when you have the time, we’re on your side! 🇮🇪🇸🇬

The poly braid is super. If you raise the joules on the energizer for the fence it will give the poly braid more bite. How annoying those naughty cows are being! Always love to hear what’s happening even if it isn’t the best. ❤️

Like father like son haha look tis a pain but they're great animals in fairness. healthy sign to break out for food or exercise 😅 Maybe new wire, stakes, fencer or a double wire could be a game changer. you may try something out as you'll have more animals with the trait wanting to get out yet

Well. I was thinking if you threw a bucket of water around the earth bar of the fence it would put an extra bit of jazz in the current. If u feed the cattle on top of the rushes will it help to kill them? Is that your plan?

Nice to have you back Sean. They’re a pain when they start breaking out. Beags daughter has badness on both sides now. I know you like her but she’s gonna break your heart. She’s also very small which will be an issue calving down plus it will curtail her ability to grow. Where is the big Belty Bullock. He must be close to finishing.

That Galloway through the fence is what I’m talking about

I think the biggest thing with all this is having a system that trains them as calves. It benefited the calves to skip under last year but maybe combined with the genetics, it’s contributed to the issue. Maybe worth asking for comments on how others manage this issue. I suspect it’s having 2 wires but maybe having it lower although that might temp them to jump it.
@seanofalluinregenerativefa4569
@seanofalluinregenerativefa4569 2 месяца назад
Well John that's the issue if I have it lower they jump and higher there under. The tall rushes don't help either. I did find a bad connection on my fencer today though. 🤞

Would you consider putting the worst offenders in a tight square with super hot wire to retrain them to respect the wire? You might even feel better if you watch the lessons. You also might need a second wire to stop calves learning to break out. The cattle are looking great at any rate and some are definitely in their Judy summer slick coats.
@kieranosullivan02

Yeah their memory for escaping is savage. They'll always remember we jumped this ditch before or ran under the wire in this field before let's do it again 😂😂😂

You’ve bred a group of what in New Zealand we used to call fencers, they have no respect for the fence, and it starts when you don’t worry about them getting through the fence as babies, nip that in the bud mate, even if you have to run 2 wires
@seanofalluinregenerativefa4569

@@seanofalluinregenerativefa4569 two wires mate, and if necessary a fence unit that runs off the mains, or if that’s not possible a stronger unit, you’ve got to hit these bastards hard, or you’ll have problems forever, good luck, I’ve been through it, bought weaners calves from a poorly fences hill country farm, they just walked over fences, good post and wire fences, I couldn’t hold them, sent them to the freezing works
