I think the reason your birthday video is doing well is because you show your vulnerability. You are a real person and people relate to you and your family. Everything is not always sunshine and roses. Just keep being you.
It will be months before my yard is passible again. I had two major trees knocked over in the yard and at least eighteen large oaks down in my forest. I'm heartsick about the trees, but I have to be thankful that the house & hangar are okay. So many have it far worse, the hurricane was horrible.
Sorry to hear about your trees. Luckily I did not lose any trees, just some small branches and my fencing around my garbage pails blew down. Glad you came out safe, that is the important thing.
That’s so sweet of you to give your love to the Hurricane Affected victims. I ditto that sentiment. Much love to you all, and those of you who lost loved one. Be comforted knowing God has this. Even in the worst times God has it. We as humans can’t fathom death and destruction, but to God there’s only life. Spirituality speaking; We could be alive, but dead, or dead, but alive. Althings are created by God and his Mercy is unchanging. Jesus was sent not to judge the world, but to save it.
Brian❤❤❤❤ - about all the great comments on your “life story” video… you may be surprised at the response, but “WE” (your loyal followers), because WE LOVE YOU! You are a close personal friend to thousands of us and we appreciate everything you do! Keep on sharing!❤❤❤❤
I loved your Birthday post and this one also. I think you should write a book and help even more people. You and your channel are real which is so refreshing!
I really think we the viewers see through the phony. You are truly deep and freaking honest, Brian, and we appreciate it. The new chicken is amazing and hope you get a little partner for her.
Brian, you're so open, real, and grounded. This is why so many of us feel you're the neighbor next door. Best friend at a distance. Love you babe! From Jacksonville, Fl. Sending a virtual hug from a friend.
I’m glad you mentioned that you wrote out notes of what you wanted to say on your birthday video. Writing out thoughts and feelings has a way of clarifying things for us. Doing that has helped me through some traumatic events in my life. I recommend it to anyone who is struggling. It’s refreshing to see your vulnerability and encouraging for others to see you work through those issues. Well done Brian. Thanks for showing us the real you.
Brian, you mentioned the flood victims in the Southeast. It is very bad, and I ask everyone to please pray for them all. NC was hit extremely hard. Asheville is completely cut off and it's very hard to get any supplies in. Entire towns have been totally destroyed. They are gone. People are still without food and water. And the government has sent NO help. And many are dead or missing. Please pray for them.
The government has sent lots of help. The $$ was approved even before the hurricane hit. They are in constant contact with all agencies assisting, offering anything they need. There are many areas only accessible by helicopter due to roads being washed out. Chef Jose Andres and his World Central Kitchen is in as many areas there as possible providing food and water, he even sent tanker trucks with water to the areas where the water pipes are broken. This is a rare catastrophic event, and all of the Governors have spoken out about how helpful the US Gov has been, and have thanked them. Let's pray for all involved, both the victims and the people helping out. 🙏🙏
The reason I subscribe to your channel is because you are so real. You have the courage to be yourself. Not everyone has that ability. I understand you when you speak of the things you suffer from. I am in the same place as you are. Many of us can relate to you. We truly appreciate the man that you are. It takes courage to do what you do and to be so honest and strong in the face of adversity. So thank you for that.
You're birthday video showed your authentic self (as do most of your videos). People are desperate for authenticity and also to know that they're not alone in their struggles. Happy belated birthday and congratulations on your new chicken. The chicken reminds me of a black opal in the sun (maybe a name idea?) ~Blessings
If you can get ahold of an Ayam Cemani rooster and breed it with a white leghorn hen, you get what they are calling a zombie chicken. All of the black features of the Ayam Cemani but it will have white feathers. So cool!
Congratulations on the pepper harvest! 👍. So sorry for the loss of the little hen. 😢 The coloring reminds me of Grackles, beautiful. I know people are suffering with mental health issues and I’m glad your video was a help to so many. You have a healthy, well-rounded attitude and personality that I appreciate very much; it is the result of a personal relationship with Jesus. For me, I find it most helpful to look away from everything self and focus on Jesus and claim His promises. Thank you so much for sharing. Many blessings
You talk about issues in the garden always showing the good. i don't do it in your group but in my local gardening group. i talk about the fails. i like to let people know what I did wrong. how to avoid it. i took inspiration from your videos on things not to do and turned that into learning. though those posts don't get the reception of a big green plant. it is what it is
Hi and thank you for your channel. I “farm” virtually thru you. Re Peppers: have you tried Coolapeno Heatless: A heatless jalapeño pepper plant that can grow to be 36-44 inches tall. Re Water Containers: Galvanized Steel repels algie. No algie, fewer water loving insects and cleaner water for your animals. Just a couple thoughts. 😀😀
Love your honesty, that is important in a life where everyone is fake. It is so nice to the the real you and family. Thank you for sharing with us. God bless you and the family.
That birthday video was like you sharing your testimony, and your life story. It was very special and I appreciate you sharing it. It helps other not feel so alone. And teaches about how you don't need to carry guilt and shame over your past choices and you can live with peace and happiness. It gives people hope for their future. :) thanks for all you do
South East Alabama here. Hurricane went well to the East of us, didn’t even get any rain. I sure do feel for the ones that are dealing with it though as I’ve been there before. I lost everything in Hurricane Andrew in 1992, the house, everything. I lived in Miami during Andrew, born and raised there. I was 17 when Andrew wrecked us. 49 now and I still remember that storm like it was yesterday. One more thing, tough times don’t last long but tough people do
So exciting about the peppers!! THe plant is beautiful....I dont think my heart could get cold and icy enough to prune that one back for overwintering. Then again I didn't get a bite of that pepper.
Another great video, Brian. Love your new Lamborghini chicken, she sure is pretty! I also am totally in awe and appreciation of your humbleness and your willingness to be vulnerable. I think part of the charm and draw to your channel is because you are real, and talk about all things in life whether it’s about gardening, life , cooking in the kitchen with Emilie, feelings, successes, failures …your honesty and vulnerability is key. Thank you for sharing that part of your life along with all your great tips and tricks and hacks for making a wonderful homestead whether it’s gardening, livestock stewardship, or even dealing with a child who suddenly is driving himself to school! 😳
Always happy to see your videos post. You bring us along and are fearlessly yourself. I think you might underestimate the value of that. Lots of channels post homesteading content, but they are not you. Thank you for the gift of allowing your viewers to know you.💕
I will tell you, the more I learn, the less I know. Understand that you sharing what went on connected with so many of us, because many times we cannot put into words what happened in our lives, and how we missed focusing on what was so grand in that moment of our lives. It's amazing that you found words for what we lived through as failures but kept going. I don't look back often at the moment because it is overwhelming. But I will, one day, put pencil to paper, and then pen to paper so my girls have the history of how I became to unstoppable woman at 66, that I am. Yes, please remember to share those moments you have figured out, because it's not the garden, or the homestead, it is figuring out how to live and appreciate life. I love life. Thank you so much, sorry this is so long.
Hi Brian, I think that the Birthday video was just you being authentic and that is sorely needed these days. People are so phony and it's refreshing that you just talk to us as your true self. I think that we can all relate to a friend sharing his/her problems.
That is the awesome chicken! Yes, Brian your video on your birthday was the best! Man how we related. I would llike to see you get back to doing gardening with us. Just to mention action videos are good. We like to see you do stuff that is what attracted me to you years ago.
Group therapy has been helpful for many for a long time. Sharing with others dealing with the same issue is healing - finding that you are not alone.Your video may have been the "new" social media group therapy. I would still encourage non-social media group therapy, for those that connected with you. it is great that your video touched so many like myself. Being venerable on this platform for "clicks" as what viewers perceive as real is rare. Thank you! However, I hope that viewers also seek help elsewhere, in addition to social media.
Well I am very excited for your new Lamborghini! ❤❤😂😂 I have raised chickens a long time and I used breed Buckeyes. My only advise would be, and maybe you did this and just didn’t say, but any new addition to your flock should be quarantined for about 2 weeks. Now maybe you don’t have a place to do that, but you don’t want to bring anything from the outside in. When you do quarantine them giving electrolyte’s and vitamins can be helpful, but one thing I learned about chickens is they are fragile especially at a young age. I probably don’t need to tell you that. Honestly if the breeder was decent, they may give another one.but they do need to know because they need to look at their own flock. See if theres an issue, also if your weather has been up and down, it might have been pneumonia. Anyway, I love your honesty and sharing you are very brave!❤ Opening yourself up to the public, sharing things so personal, not all people are kind, they sit behind their computer screens and judge and say nasty things because they would never be confronted in person. I absolutely love both your channels! You and your wife are the best! Watching the farm animal newbies, is entertaining😂😂 (no offense)❤ 🎉 😊 You guys just keep on being you, your channel wouldn’t be doing as well if you weren’t doing something right❤ I’ll keep watching and chuckling and praying for the best for you and your family. ❤❤
Thank you for your best wishes. I leave in upstate South Carolina. Our power and internet was out and I didn't get to watch the last 3 days of the summit. Lucky enough that's all that happen to us. God Bless.
Hi from Appalachia. Our town fortunately came out fairly unscathed, but devastation surrounds us. We have become one of the staging areas for supply runs because of our proximity. Please keep everyone here in your prayers- it’s so much worse than the mainstream media is saying. Think Katrina, but worse and across hundreds of miles. Whole towns are simply gone. And the death toll is easily 10x what they are reporting. But our communities are banding together and rescuing people and bringing supplies where certain agencies are showing their incompetence. We even have mule trains, hikers and those on horseback accessing the most rural areas that are completely cut off.
Keep doing what you’re doing friend 👍🏻 another great video as always! I always find peace when I watch your content after a day at work. Then I’m motivated and I start gardening and enjoying my yard 😎
I am sure you got plenty of suggestions for getting the hay up the hill but here's mine get a wench (one that uses a car battery) and pull a wagon up the hill. Even a smaller model would pull a "hay wagon" up that hill. 😊
I always want comment how much I appreciate you and your channels- but it seems everyone else beats me to it and says it so much better. So ditto from me
You are real, warts and all, and so nice. Makes it easy to relate to you. Thanks for mentioning the Hurricane. It is bad. Entire towns in NC wiped off the map. Hundreds of people still missing. And 8 days later, where is the government??? Locals are hauling in supplies, some by mule, because the roads are gone. The county I live in in central NC is collecting supplies, 4 tractor trailers went out this am, and they are still collecting. It is a drop in the bucket of what they will need. They are trying to restore power and phones. As well as those that have lost everything, the workers need to be fed. IF your readers are able to help, Samaritan's purse appears to be a good place. Most of the donation will actually help the victims.
So cute with Daisy waiting in front of her feed bin for you. I have never seen a black chicken before, did not know they existed. Looking forward to you making the Jelly. Thanks
we can only take it moment by moment n can not dwell there but for a moment n move on! my family is safe got word sunday morning, so many still don’t know, or have lost loved ones! its heartbreaking seeing the damage but even more so hearing families speak of what they went through or the last message they got from a loved one! praying!!!❤❤❤
People appreciate & can smell out authenticity & you have revealed your authentic self to us. That is a trait that is so sadly lacking in today's world & it is really refreshing to listen to someone talking about real-life emotions & challenges. Just keep being & doing you.
Whenever someone asks me what I would change about my past if I could, I tell them, "Nothing. Not a single thing. All of those experiences, both tragedy and triumph, have gone into making the person I am today, and I *like* that person."
Although I gave an uphill slope hay bale pulley and rail-platform design, it just makes more sense having an installed overhead hay bale roof, ... and then make the drive-into road and put the nearby hay bales directly into the wooden hay bale bin.
Omg. The number of times of camera repositioning that occurred on your opening walk/ feed sequence must have taken forever to plan out and record. Nicely done.
Also, I started following you after your video about your aneurysm. I think your vulnerability is good for us bc we all have stuff we don't want people to see. I've been here ever since and I pray for you and your family❤❤❤
Congratulations on your addition to your chicken flock. I took a poultry class through UC extension many years ago . I learned a lot about poultry in general and Biosecurity in particular. You live pretty close to Mexico and there as well as the rest of California is having a lot of bird flu show up in our poultry flocks this year. May I make a suggestion concerning your chicken coop? A solid roof over your chicken run would protect your chickens from wild bird droppings falling into your coop and possibly infecting your chickens and eventually you and your family. It is just a thought, maybe one day when you have nothing else to do (ha, ha) you might put a roof over the run. 😃 Love your channel, you have been a great help to me, thanks
We love you guys! You’re a very stabilizing force in my life. I have severe agoraphobia and I started on meds since I started gardening and I’ve ventured out. Not all you guys, but it helps a lot 🌸💜🌸
I felt the same was about when I finally had a successful year with habanero peppers - I tried so many years that didn't do well. I am a hot pepper fan, but also LOVE the fruity!
Brian I do not mean this in a rude way but I think y’all have a rooster there. The saddle feathers and hackles are dominate. His larger tail feather is already curling over too. I am an Ayam Cemani breeder in Texas and have nearly 40 of just this breed. He seems really sweet though so at least he’s not aggressive like some lines of this breed can be. As for your video about your birthday I think many of us can relate. It made me pause and think. I love both your channels and love your book. I think you’re doing life the best you can and it has paid off over the years of struggle you’ve had. I look up to you in the gardening world so keep it up!
What a cool chicken!! Also, I really enjoyed your birthday video - it was so relatable. I really connected with your channel in your sharing about your battles with anxiety because I can really relate. Keep sharing all the things!
In case you don't know it yet that cow is pregnant! I will have to try that pepper now! I thought they were hot and I don't do hot!!! That chicken is beautiful and the iridescent colors are so nice! Sorry you lost one! At least it didn't die alone. A number of us consider you a friend even though you don't personally know us. But you are so honest in telling us how you feel and thats what makes us feel like we are friends! We do care about you and your family!
I got an error so I don't know if my comment came through. But she looks a little fuller around her belly and side. It could just be how she looks in the video. Look at her from the front or back. Does that area look a little rounder! Maybe like she had just a little too much to eat. Look and see if you notice it! Best of luck with her!
@@Posie1970 last yr or maybe yr before there was a major mix up of pepper seeds with a major supplier. Some thought they planted bells got hot peppers and vice versa. I think this year is better.
Maybe just buy a little quad with a small trailer to haul the hay up ..then if Noah isn’t around you can manage by yourself ? Those little trailers are pretty useful for other things too😂
Love new chicken. I think maybe you should find out why it passed just in case it gave something to rest of chickens.Love video.Take care have a great day
Thanks for the thoughts and prayers. I live in Anderson SC and we’re hit pretty bad but things are getting better, but the area around Asheville NC and Chimney Rock got 24 to 33 inches of rain in under 14 hours. The media images do not give a fraction of the destruction that happened as personal reports and images of towns hit are horrific
Nice looking chicken. Sorry about the other chicken. Hopefully it didn't have something that can spread to the other chickens. That was an awesome video and it is just amazing to be so honest and true to yourself.
That video was great, I asked my husband to watch it with me again, it touched me so much. You went through some of the things that we are going through now. And I know it’s not easy. Thanks for posting. I used your Amazon link today btw before I purchased a random thing on Amazon haha. Amazon can share their profit with people like you ;) I will use that link whenever I buy stuff on Amazon (and we buy a lot) so please keep posting it in description so it’s easy for me to find 😊not sure how long it’s good for but I will keep clicking on it. Thanks again for all you do.
You could recite the phone book and I'd still watch it I just love watching your videos but I think Monday milking and stories from you would be awesome and I have a definitely watch it keep it up we love you
I'm glad that you finally got your Habanadas & that you like them. I too don't like hot peppers but my husband does. When I ordered my plants for hubby's hot peppers for 2024 (I'm in zone 6b) I found out about Habanadas. Mine ripened around early September & I love them! If you haven't tried them yet try 'Hot Sweet Thing' for next year. Another sweet pepper plant regardless of it's name. Very tasty. Doesn't seem as prolific in my area as my Habanada plant but produces some very interesting fruits. Next year we try from seeds. 😉 BTW, I have plenty of seeds from the Hot Sweet Thing I can send you if you want to try them. I'm sorry to hear about your chicken but the surviving one is interesting. The iridescent colors make me think of some of the blackbirds in my area.
I also tried growing the habanada for the first time this year. Just harvested the first ones a couple of days ago but haven't tried them yet. It was kind of a slow grower compared to the jalapeño, anaheim and cajun belles.
the damage the hurricane did in NC mountains is unbelievable. The news on tv isnt showing or telling how bad it is. Whole towns are gone.. I dont know how long it will take to just clean up. No power, no cell phone, no radio, roads and bridges gone. Mudslides and flooding was catastrophic. God only knows how many people are missing or have passed away. People need water, food, shelter, basic needs, medication.. Its really bad. Please pray for them and in Tennessee also.
It was a great video. Idk if you'd be up for it, but I think a morning coffee chat would be awesome. Even better if you did it live a day or two of the week. It's wild that I'm all the way over here in Texas and we had similar weather. We had 2 days of fall-like weather and now it's blazing again. I struggled with growing Jimmy Nardelos for some reason but as I type, I have one orange one and about 3 greens. I'm so excited to finally taste them. As far as the strike goes, there's no need to go stock up on much. There are tons of the affected items in cold storage. No need to worry.
Oh I'm so sorry about your new chicken. I hope the other one does well. That chicken is gorgeous. I want you to know I watch you because I find you so relatable and you are so fun. Again I watch youtube on tv which means I don't get to make comments, unless I come on the computer to do so. I'm at my desk today so I can. I had a long comment to make on that video, but in the end, I felt it was something I would rather say to you directly if I had a chance. Just know, those years, those thoughts you had are quite common. I have a 17 year old having some of the same thoughts. Calculating their life. She is my last out of 4 kids and they have all done the same thing. The first three have landed where they need to be/meant to be. I'm glad you did as well. Your life feels fabulous to be. That said from someone who married into a farm family but didn't get to stay on the farm. I miss it greatly but I get to see your animals and that helps. Now on a funny note....I'm allergic to peppers. Every heard of that?!
I have 2 black sex link crosses with similar coloring, except red waddles. They are so pretty in the light. I love the emotional processing, introspective talks. I think growing food and growing a healthy mind goes hand in hand. Thank you for keeping it in the rotation.
Your new Lamborgini is beautiful! Ok, I'll try again with habanado next year. Congrats on getting yours to actually fruit! My two plants never got bigger than 5 inches tall and had little bitty flowers. But, if you're saying they're really not spicy, I HAVE TO try again!
A habanada pepper looks like a red habanero pepper, but is NOT HOT. A habanada pepper has a Scoville rating of - 0 -, meaning it is completely heatless. In contrast, habanero peppers are very hot, with a Scoville rating of 100,000-350,000. Tabasco pepper sauce has a 3700 Scoville rating. So consider a red, yellow, or orange sweet bell pepper with - 0 - Scoville rating, put that into a smaller habanero style of pepper, and you have a habanada. Habanada is a type of pepper that's a cross between a habanero pepper and a natural mutation that produces a heatless pepper. Habanada peppers are known for their sweet, floral flavor and crisp skin, and are often eaten green or fully orange. Habanada peppers are a sweet, heatless variety belonging to the Solanaceae or nightshade family. The hybrid pepper was developed by breeder Michael Mazourek, through natural cross-pollination techniques, to showcase the fruity and floral flavors of a habanero pepper without the overpowering heat.
