I think you second guess yourself way too much. Like all the notes, in white over the video in post editing, it just kind of comes off as self demeaning. You should be proud of yourself, you’ve accomplished a lot by being admitted into Stanford, and no doubt you’ll accomplish a lot more long after you graduate from Stanford. I’m only 16, but I’m hoping to get into UCLA through a transfer program at my local California community college. It’s going to be a lot of hard work, getting a 4.0 GPA, even in community college, but seeing others like you succeed in your dreams and ambitions, gives me hope that I can succeed in mine. Also, love that background mix from Spirited Away, very nice touch.

pretty sure hsr is high school rigor not high school record. so how hard your high school is compared to other schools and/or what classes you chose to take compared to what all is offered at your school

i have two questions. I am in 9th grade. I had A's and B's in semester 1, but in semester 2 two D's and all of them A's and B's (normal classes). Am I going get accepted in UC's if I get good grades in 10th-11th grade or 10th-11th? And my 2nd question is what grade dose UC look at?

Olivia, it sounds like you had a strong academic record (e.g., GPA and decent test scores), which is definitely a baseline requirement for admission to an academically rigorous institution like Stanford. You also mentioned that you were of native heritage (Pacific Islander?), lived in a predominately white community in Montana, and interested in social justice causes. I have to ask, in all honesty, do you think those non-academic factors played a large role in your admission to Stanford?

hey thanks for asking! admission to any university is holistic - they care about way more than gpa/test scores. (like you said, that’s the baseline requirement and they don’t really care beyond that.) olivia has done lots of incredible work (grassroots organizing, starting her own successful photography business, playing at a high level of tennis) that made her a special/interesting enough to get in to so many top schools! I really appreciate you asking the question - just keep in mind that the whole point of college admissions is to look at the full person/applicant, not just test scores. -tara

@@stanfordtrio9834 But there's colleges for every student. As far as admissions process being holistic, it depends. Schools like Stanford, Duke and the Ivy League schools definitely look at a bunch of things besides grades and test scores when deciding to accept a applicant but schools like Arizona State, University of Arizona, West Virginia University, University of Kansas etc will pretty much accept anyone that applies as long as they meet admission requirements which is just based on academics.

Niceeee that's cool, if ur in 10th or 11th grade, I would suggest going to a prestigious college summer program, because they attract the best from the entire country, and you would find lots of high schoolers willing to work with u

I heard that they also rate the school you went to...like the academic rigor of the school...and you have a better chance of getting in if you went to a really good school that pushed you? Is that true? Did you see that?

they did rate my school as MD (most demanding) but remember it’s all about context! if you went to a less good school, they won’t penalize you - they just want to see you pushed yourself in your given context.

Ivy doesn’t actually stand for intellectual vitality. In fact, Stanford isn’t even part of the ivy schools in the US. I think she meant IV in her video.

@@varshanalokesh3303 I don’t go to Stanford but I have family at Caltech (we’re Indian). To get into America’s top colleges you need to do extracurriculars and classes mostly surrounding the major you interested in pursuing. EX. If you wanna do arts major, then do art related ECS and do really well in arts classes.
