I took a 4 night cruise onboard the first cruise ship from Virgin Voyages: Scarlet Lady. In this video, I've docked in Key West (Florida), and I can't wait to get off the ship to explore! In this video, we're going to check out the Downtown area, including Duval Street and the Jimmy Buffet recording studio, before trying to hunt down the Southernmost point, one of the top attractions/things to do here on Key West. After that, it'll be time to head back to the ship - I'll warn you now - this part is a little close for comfort... What happens when you miss your cruise ship? Well, hopefully we're not about to find out!
Once we're back on Scarlet Lady, it's time to experience 'Scarlet Night' together - Virgin's 'full ship immersion' experience, where every venue onboard is completely transformed for a ship-wide party, including the best pool party I've ever seen on a cruise ship! I'll also take you to one of the onboard shows, and also show you my dinner at Pink Agave, the upscale Mexican restaurant onboard. We've got a lot to cover in this episode so, let's get started!

Fraser someone recently told me that when I travel in Europe and my phone SIM card doesn’t work locally, prior to leaving the WiFi in a hotel or airport I can download local maps to my phone and use those without having a data connection as I walk around. They said the phone’s gps receiver will work by satellite, so I won’t need a data connection to get turn by turn walking directions using the downloaded maps. Just wanted to share this in case it helps you in your travels (I haven’t given it a try yet, so I hope it’s correct!) And by the way, I’ve been to Key West once and it was super crowded on those streets! We walked to the southernmost point and the line to have a photo in front of the marker was way down the street. But it was a nice trip and I enjoyed the Hemingway house among other things. Happy travels…

Hi Cynthia, you’re absolutely right - that does save a fortune - you just need to remember to download the maps (and remember where your planned route/landmarks are, ha!). Thanks for watching - not sure I’d have coped well with the crowds, but would love to return to key west - a lovely town!

I lived in KW years back, a couple of blocks away from the Southernmost Point, near Ernest Hemingway's house. You didn't have time to go there but it was nice seeing the town in that quick walking tour. Looks like you had a fun night on the ship! Orange is the new red? 😜 hehe

@@FraserAtSea Yes, it was much less built up and less touristy than it is now. More of a small town feel. Though along with that came some bigotry and gay bashings, it is the deep south after all. Oh, I could tell you stories but I will refrain here! I did especially love being there in the winter. For someone from the northeastern US (NYC), who was used to cold winters, spending Christmas and New Year on the beach was a welcome novelty!

You certainly were able to enjoy an amazingly calm day there in Key West...the wind was blowing a gale the last I was there and you couldn't even stay on the beach as you felt were you were being scrubbed down with sandpaper! lol Missing the ship would be my worst nightmare on a cruise for sure! Signed up for your website too and am one of the first 100...Bonus!! Dinner did look amazing! I'm too old to party, as if I'm not in bed by 10ish, I'm not fit to be around the next day! lol Enjoy it all while one can...and have an amazing time doing so!!

@@FraserAtSea We have been caught out by ship time vs port time vs android/ios time vs "did I change my watch time" in the past, but basic paranoia means we have always been there within a good timescale ! Of course you have the advantage of being able to run, Fraser ! 👟

Enjoyed that Fraser - as usual. Have always wanted to go to Key West. Not entirely sure that I like all that red paint around the ship though. What was that about a $400 bar tab? Is that what you owed, or what you’d been given? Just curious. Anyway, keep up the good work. 👍🏼
