I got mugged by Sea gulls once at Blackpool because they all saw me eating food 😂😢 threw my sandwiches in the air and the gulls went wild and I made a runner. Looks like you had fun Nick.
Ah, this brings back memories of the late 60s/early 70s for me. My grandparents lived in Cleveleys (just north of Anchorsholme) so we were regular visitors to Blackpool and the trams were, at that time, unique in the UK as all other towns and cities had ripped up their networks many years earlier. A ride on them from Starr Gate to Fleetwood was a treat. Then, the trams were all green and cream coloured and included some double decker 'Balloon' cars, built in the 30s, that were absolute beasts. I think there are a couple still operational in the heritage fleet. My grandad died in the mid-70s and my grandmother moved back to Yorkshire. I've probably been to Blackpool no more than three times since then. I'll have to go again just to ride the trams.
Some of the Balloon double deckers are still in regular service, tho I think most are now operating as a heritage fleet, and the ones currently operating so it in the same color pattern as the newer ones
They have some green and cream double deckers and green and cream single for the heritage trips along with the Illuminations trams at Blackpool transport depot and I use to live there 5 years ago and was born in Blackpool
Nice vlog of the Blackpool tramway Nick, I’ve visited the whole tramway in Blackpool now too, well until they open the extension to north station anyways. I enjoyed watching as always.
Noooo way - I was in Blackpool all of yesterday as part of a (how Northern is this) brass band competition and made a detour just to look at the trams 😂
Why not come over to my home city in Edinburgh this June! We are opening the Newhaven branch at the start of June so it should be nice. Cheers- The Rather Good Engineer
I have a love hate relationship with Blackpool 😂. When I visit, on cheap Northern sale tickets, I always ride the tram to Fleetwood. I like the circular loop it does at Fleetwood, it would have been interesting to show viewers this. There are also turning loops at other points along the line. I’m guessing these turning loops were for previous rolling stock? The recent new trams can run in either direction, though they probably never get to do this!! Also, was the new extension open to Blackpool South Railway Station open?
From Melbourne, Victoria, Australia. Did actually use this tram! Had the exact same feelings about Blackpool Beach and Pleasure Beach. Definitely a place to visit if travelling England.
I’m local & the teams are great especially if you won’t want to walk the prom! Did you know that the tramway is going to extend to the North train station?. 😊
brilliant video i love Blackpool i go every year its my fav seaside town in the uk & i like the trams but i do miss the heritage ones as i remember going on those when i was a lot younger keep up the awesome work
1:05 when you've spent all your student loans on pointless journeys 😜 Jokes aside, north pier is the best bit IMO (closest one to the tower too); all the stick that Blackpool gets is mainly regarding the suburban areas (which most visitors won't venture into anyway, unless they happen to have friends living there) away from the touristy seaside bits, which are mostly derelict and riddled with crime. Also, if you come into Blackpool by train, it's actually a LOT cheaper to use the PlusBus ticket (around £3 or less if you have a railcard) which is also valid on the trams.
Good video, enjoyed it. Don’t know if you have been but I think it would be cool if you went to Hubbarts Bridge station. Still has someone who opens and closes the gate for cars, one of the last remaining in the UK I believe.
@@XxX_Baiwey_XxX The tram extension itself is complete, however they can't do final testing and open it until the HolidayInn being built at the Blackpool North terminus is finished.
I live in Blackpool and I love riding the trams. By the way there is a new line open connecting the normal line to north station I went to the open day last week
The line added two new routes all the routes now are: T1- Starr gate to Fleetwood ferry, T2 Starr gate to north station and T3 north station to Fleetwood ferry
I need to go back to Blackpool as an adult, it so nice but never really explore on my own. Not a beach person tho, bit of an issue lol. The history if rail in the town is so sad, Blackpool central use to be so busy and now it embankment is a road to a car park and the station is that car park. Very sad, that car park is being turned into something new so hopefully that'll be good. Can't wait for the Edinburgh episode, maybe Glasgow is next? And I think Cardiff is getting something Metro like, that'd be a fun episode.
SO cool to see you visit the only surviving old British tramway! Soon I am hoping to visit a few more - I have only tried metrolink and london trams 😢 Also this video is turning into ‘I visited Blackpool Beach’ 😂
well there's still a few metres of Birkenhead tramway...? it's in a depressing state, though. I'll never forgive this country for what it did to our trains and trams.
One of my B&Bs was close to Manchester Square. There's a shop in North Pier with a lot of tram related postcards and nick nacks - or at least was last time I was there.
