This week I headed out into Snowdonia for some photography, and failed miserably... So instead what I thought I'd do is show you how I edited a photo I took a few weeks back, using Lightroom Mobile on the iPhone 12 Pro Max.

Great video James! Those clips of you silently talking away on the mountain cracked me up 😂 I've definitely been impressed with what you can do on the mobile version, and because it syncs it's pretty easy to work between computer and phone. Picked up some tricks for how to make photos more mystical so thanks for that!

Thanks James, I use Snapseed on my phone for Edits, I do have lightroom mobile but find it a bit of a faf. Possibly coz I dont use it enough to get the hang of it.

These sorts of videos will always be fascinating to me as I don't edit well at all. I have on more than one occasion just let Google do something for me after uploading my photos. So thank you, greatly appreciate it. Gives me a lot to think about.

We have faith in you, Mr. Popsys. I really do look forward to Sundays though, tbh. As far as sound goes, have you considered a monitor? It's kinda weird talking and hearing yourself at the same time, but... It would certainly not provide any sound if your mic is off. Either way, I just had to say that I went to the Smokey Mountains National Park this weekend and it was majestic. Got one shot of the mist in a valley that resembled a bowl of milk with a massive mountain peak in the middle. It was glorious! See ya next week. And, don't forget the audio! 🙂

James ... Only 2 weeks ! I moved to Wales 2 years ago and not been able to leave the house since, except to go to Cardiff Heath hospital (in there for two months, ICU for two weeks) or the local Horpital and not going to be allowed out until March 2021. So two weeks is not so bad.

Your nervous habit of the underexposure with mixed lighting is precisely what you're supposed to do when you want to retain as much detail as possible without bracketing (and it's also why people including me like full frame so much). Don't feel so bad about it.

I love my ZV-1, it rocks. As a small vlogging camera, it's just fine. It's a back up to my XT-4 but it works wonderfully.

I use the Canon G7X II with the on camera mic, my vids sound louder and clearer than most people I'm subbed to that have millions of subs (and therefore you'd expect them to have decent sound equipment) so using these sort of 'vlog cameras' is deffo a good choice. You do pretty much the exact opposite of me with your edits 😅 I'm all about the blacks being black, loads of contrast, punchy etc But that's because I mostly (when they existed) photographed concerts. This is really interesting and helpful though, because I'm terrible at editing landscape photos

Only thing I'd do different is crop out some of that white sky. The branches are interesting but that hot spot is too distracting. Nice horse photo! With that Veronica Lake / Jessica Rabbit mane, how would you know if it was looking at you or not?

I tested a ZV-1 and was very happy with the video from it. Not so much on the stills though. I did put a Saramonic Vmic Mini with a dead cat on it and got very usable sound. I think you'll like the camera. I didn't end up buying one because I really wanted something I could also use for stills and those just weren't up to what I needed. By the way, a hairy little 🐎 is not a suitable substitute for a 🐏.

Sorry about your mic James. I'm afraid it probably won't be the last time, but I wouldn't fret about it. As always, your videos are quite helpful for the rest of us to up our game. I've been using mobile light room for about a year now when I take pics with my phone. For most people here that are afraid of it, I would encourage them to download the free app and play with it. You can get the hang of it pretty quickly if you spend a little time on it each week. It's definitely produced a great many more positive reactions on my IG photography channel. I sincerely enjoy your videos; they are at the same time informative and entertaining. I was wondering how one could be confident in image color balance when edited on a smartphone versus a desk top's high-end, color-calibrated 4K monitor. Does the phone-edited image look the same on the desktop monitor and/or when printed?

For the ZV1 tripod hole issue "SONY ZV1 Camera UURig R054 Baseplate Extension" less than £15 on ebay. It makes it easier to hold too.

Mom was from Edinburgh and on my trips to the UK from the US we would visit my uncle in Heswell. Naturally we would take a trip to northern Wales along the northern coast to Angellsey and then to the Snowdon Railway. I warned my family that they would find Wales kind of dark and dreary. As luck would have it, the sun was shinning brightly for the entire day and everyone agreed that Wales was even more beautiful than Scotland. It was amazing what a change the sun brought about. We did get to Llandfairgogogoh (???) and got the required photo with the railway sign. Beautiful and quaint country. Amateur photographer and I absolutely love your videos.

To be honest I think the photo looked better without any editing, I simply don't understand changing the colours (to that extent) in an edit.. it looks unnatural to my eyes. Just my take.. Great composition though.

After a week I'm quite impressed. It's not perfect, there are definitely quirks and I have no idea why they didn't make it wider - but for the most part it's a useful tool :)

You have ADHD! 😂 I can tell; I have it also. The amount of times I've forgotten to put film in the camera, or not take the SD card out of the back of the computer, or forget to charge the battery, or forget to turn the anti-shake off when I put the camera on a tripod, or on when I take the camera off the tripod, or leave the front door open when I go away for a week etc, just isn't worth mentioning!

Interesting to see your method. But, if you’d spent much of your childhood, as I did, in otherwise beautiful hill country plagued by both acid rain and acid mine drainage you’d understand why the result can be disturbing. Verdant green to toxic waste. Not a look to strive for.
