This is the only time ive heard Ian sound so good. Saw him at Brixton after Sister Rose album.. but I don't know if he was in tune or not. The place was heaving and everyone was hammered and singing along. I was on the balcony and walked to the front and had a look back. Every one was like sardines in that place going mental hanging off the balcony. It must of been a site for Ian. My mate bumped into him and an airport and went to talk to him. He was so welcoming. .....doesn't go to his head. Guy playing the trumpet was dancing like a loon while playing at the same time.. Ian playing the harmonica. Best gig ever. Did I know if he was in tune? No. Who gives a .... But this NY gig. He sounds great. Go see him Brixton. Bucket list.
@@tflyer90 Nice! If they sold out MSG, they shoulda done a Chicago gig, along w/one at the Hollywood Bowl in LA!! Probably coulda sold out a couple nights in Canada too... Say, Toronto, then Montreal or Vancouver!! Anyhow, nice one, man👍
ian sounds great here, crowd doesn't seem to have as much voice as the shows in Manchester, One of the best nights of my life at the etihad last month.
Crowd sucked bc the Roses mailed this show in. One damn US tour date and it didn't seem like they wanted to bother. I know it's 5yrs ago but I wasn't the only one in my section to have this opinion. It's a shame considering what was on the horizon for the Roses.
Many thanks for the upload. What a night it was. Never thought I'd see the Stone Roses play live. June 30th, 2016 - what a time and place to be alive in!
The studio version is even better, John uses various ambient guitar effects which are quite mesmerizing and well as the slow fade in combined with the sound production, it's a true masterwork that song in particular on the Debut album but they had so many, it is quite plausible that there first album was quite possible the best of all time, the Beatles had some great tunes and Certaining their volume of great material can't be matched but they never produced any individual album quite like that, Sargent Pepper for all the hype only has 2 outstanding tunes
Demais cara! volta brilhante desses cara! melhor década do rock alternativo , que não existirá outra com a mesma magia jamais , brigado pelo upload do vídeo!
I saw this show live and then I watched these clips the next day. Just re-watching today and as good now as they were then. Thanks again for posting and for the not-terrible camera work. What a night this was!
On one of Ians best vocal performances ever the camera is not on him for most of the time- or on Squire at his best. Just zoom out a little and get them all in
I remember Mani telling me about that shirt at a telecommunications conference at a travel in just outside Banbury in the Cotswolds. It was knitted by a big morning penalty worshipper doubting Brighton zero linguistic scouse hour long braid cricketers.
Well done New York....the lads sound so much better without thousands of piss heads humming along way too loudly. Ian sings way better for it too....and look at the way Reni is hitting thiose drums, perfect.
Tommy Swift MSG has incredible acoustics. I dont know why, maybe the architecture. Its completely round with a lower, round ceiling. I saw the Rolling Stones, Pink Floyd, U2 and REM at MSG and they all sounded fantastic. Why do you think these guys chose MSG as the only US gig.
I like to see a Roses/Oasis co-headlining, two-night stand at Madison Square Garden! Them rotating as closer each night! They'd need to hit Washington DC, @ The EagleBank Arena, Chicago, @ Credit Union 1 Arena, & L.A, @ The Hollywood Bowl, or maybe two nights at the Greek Theatre. That'd make for badass live, tour footage! Be really, really cool if they'd make a few stops in the Midwest & the Old South, too. Oasis & the Roses at the Ryman Auditorium.... Dude! Literal. Dream. Gig!💯 Anyhow.... A fella can dream, can't he?!
From Wikipedia about their first album: “As with most Stone Roses releases, the cover displays a work by the band's guitarist John Squire, in this case a Jackson Pollock-influenced piece titled "Bye Bye Badman", which makes reference to the May 1968 riots in Paris. The cover was named by Q magazine as one of "The 100 Best Record Covers of All Time." In the accompanying article, Squire said: "Ian [Brown] had met this French man when he was hitching around Europe, this bloke had been in the riots, and he told Ian how lemons had been used as an antidote to tear gas. Then there was the documentary-a great shot at the start of a guy throwing stones at the police. I really liked his attitude."[11] The story was also the inspiration for the lyrics to the song of the same name.[11] The background of the piece is based on the Giant's Causeway in Northern Ireland; the band had visited the causeway while playing a gig at the University of Ulster in Coleraine.”
I'd heard of these guys back in the day, when they were first popular, whenever that was, but never actually heard them. I don't think they were a big thing in the States when they started. Then, couple of years back, I stumbled blindly onto a video. I was amazed, especially by Reni. I've heard Pete Townshend wanted Reni, but he respectfully declined. Ya never know when a band is just gonna click until it happens. I know, "Duh!" Strangely enough, I thought Ian B was the weakest link, but I don't think that anymore.
Creigo 10 Dude smoked about 2 packs a day for most of adult life, or so I’ve heard. Judging by the amount of smoke you can see in the lights behind Reni I think it’s fair to say he might not have had the easiest time up there.
Whoever didn't make this an official release, "The Stone Roses: Live at Madison Square Garden NYC" with a packed house, damn near a sellout, probably 15,000+ ppl, w/EVERYONE on here commenting that it's maybe Brownie's best live singing for ages.... And it was obviously special to the band as they took that final bow, so poignant. Only mistake was stopping! They could have done similar size gigs at the LA Forum and at the Rosemont Horizon or the UIC Pavilion in Chicago. Oasis sold out the UIC Pavilion in 2005, and it holds about 10,000 ppl, so....
