Peter Wood-Jenkins.Of course you are entitled to an opinion, but do you really think this show is in the same league as Bernard Manning? Most of his 'humour' is offensive to someone, and not particularly clever. And as you say, the foul language is smokescreen for weak jokes. Take profanity away and Manning is little better than the average pub loudmouth. On the other hand the Reggie Perrin series were comedy genius. They managed to be silly yet often very poignant. They were prime time TV, yet got away with cutting satire without a single profanity. Not to mention the superb performances of the cast. Okay, some of the jokes and visuals are a little dated, but the story of a middle aged man struggling to make sense of his world is still relevant today. Way more relevant than a Manning mother-in-law joke anyway. But hey, different things for everyone.

The whole idea of the chairs is the directors' way to belittle the staff for his amusment. It's not lavatory humour but probably too difficult for some realise that. All three series are extremely well observed characterisations of the human condition but slightly exaggerated, which makes it one of the best comedies ever but with real things to say about life and how we find ourselves. Take Reggies' speech at the British Fruit Association. Way ahead of it's time environmentally speaking.

If ever Reggie Perrin appears on Netflix I'll take a week off work to gorge on it. Brilliant!
