My laptop died and I don't know why. I took it to a shop to have them recover the files and they gave me an estimate of $325. I don't know what the going rate is but that's more than I paid for it new. This was brilliant. After being told a bunch of bullshit about it taking several hours and costing upwards of $350, I jumped on the ol' 'Tube to see if I could do it myself. Lo and behold, I find your video and learn about these hard drive cases. For $25 I was able to remove my hard drive, stick it in the case and plug it in, and hey presto, there's all of my uni research. Thanks mate, you saved me from getting jerked around by some tool who thinks it's cool to baffle people with bullshit and rob them blind.

if you want to cut short, you can simply buy a SATA to USB 3 adapter, and all you really have to do is plug in the SATA port the correct orientation, and plug it into a working laptop/PC. However, make sure it is indeed SATA and not IDE, since then you need to buy a different type of adapter. Btw, you can usually find one of these adapters at around 12-15 euros.

You can plug in your broken HP pavilion's hard drive into the USB enclosure. and then plug in to your good laptop USB port. Good laptop will detect HP pavilion's hard drive as a external drive. Anyway it won't damage or erase your GOOD laptop's program and data.

I do this and when I click on the drive it says "device not ready" and in properties.it shows 0 data used space. I know there is an operating system and files on this hard drive but it just won't load into windows and repair disk etc have failed. I want to recover the data from this drive.

Thanks for the awesome video. I have a lenovo G580 laptop that is not booting up. Every time i press the start button it just goes into the 'diagnosing your PC' loop. Someone suggsted me to press the 'one key recovery' button, but i have not done it so far, as i am afraid i might lose my data. My question is, can i remove the hard disk as you have explained, attach it to another laptop, copy the data, then put it back in the original laptop and then press the 'one key recovery ' button. Will the recovery option work then?

Yes, you can do it this way. 5:19 attach to another laptop or PC. copy all your important data. put back the old hard drive to your Lenovo G580 "press "one key recovery" to do a fresh installation. Actually your Lenovo "One Key Recovery" Recovery partition is in your Lenovo hard drive. Your Windows One Key Recovery is from the Recovery Partition. Another way is to boot up from recovery media to do the installation if you you have the Recovery Media. Here is the video for your reference. Yes, It worked!!! Bios Password and Windows login Password just protect your laptop from unauthorized person to login only. If you remove the hard drive connect it to the hard drive enclosure as an external drive. Whatever Bios password and Windows Login password is not more effective.

my laptop was forced shutdown due to an unscheduled power shutdown here in our place😢i was then shocked my laptop died and it was able to go to startup windows -diagnosing windows-and the error was :critical process died, everytime i select the prompts or the dialogue windows to open or recober my files it ask password but then i didn't even set password for my pc😢😢probably because its a secondhand ,will i be able to recover my files?😢😢if i will only just remove the hard drive and connect to other pc just like you did in your video??

Means your old hard drive got two partition (C drive and D drive in your old laptop). On Windows Explorer, you may have an additional two drives. Maybe it is D drive or E drive or F drive. I'm not sure. in this part of the video 5:28 detect D drive and D drive. and Where is your old laptop's Desktop, Documents, Downloads, Music, Pictures & Videos hiding? watch 5:55 goto to Users directory and you can see your username, go into your username directory, you may see Desktop, Documents, Downloads, Music, Pictures & Videos. All your data hiding here. hope it helped.

Laptop fell and the hard drive dead or not died yet. we are not so sure yet. The technician said is laptop won't turn on or the hard drive won't turn on ? Anyway, you can try yourself. slot your hard drive to the hard drive enclose then plug to another computer USB port. if it can detect, the possibility you can recall your data. Good Luck.

I have an old model notebook and its lcd alr broken. I really want to backup the files especially the media one. So I've tried connecting the notebook to the monitor by using a VGA to Hdmi adapter. But then it's not working as I assumed the VGA port might be broken as well. And the saddest thing is, that notebook doesn't have a display port. My friend say just took out the memory. and I'm a bit confused here. Should the Drive or memory be taken out for bakcup?

Yes. you can take out your Hard Drive. all your data store in this 2.5" Hard Drive. Hard drive look-alike this 3:31. your friend said memory, actually what he means is Hard Drive. Memory = RAM, Drive = Hard drive.= HDD Since your laptop LCD screen has broken and you don't want to repair it, you can take out the hard drive and make it as your external drive as this video shown.

If your old hdd files and folder save on desktop. then you go to Users folder 5:54 then your user account .. from there you can find your desktop folder there. Thanks for watching.

Usually when the laptop is dead. cannot repair, not worth and don't want to repair, but still want the data then we use this method to detect as an external drive to transfer files. OR Windows cannot Bootup and want to reformat and reinstall windows. But worries that important data may accidently erase and want to make a Backup then use this method. OR Hard Drive problem, may be caused by the bad sector. then use this method detect as an external drive. and use recovery command or software to repair the hard drive.

Laptop dead, not 100% means that hard drive dead too. Yes you still get back your data from the old hard drive. However, you need to take out the dead laptop's hard drive plug to the enclosure then you can know... If it can detect as an external drive then Cheers. more percentage that you can get back your data. Anyway, data was saved in My Picture, My Videos, My Music. all under the users folder 5:54.
