im.,...so in shock at the feedback on this video. i was hoping for maybe 5k views on my first video. this is a huge vote of confidence and gives me even more motivation to make content from the heart, that's all me, thank you so so so much. T-T
was only able to catch this now but im so happy for you and your progress!! T__T doing what feels comfy for you is always the way to go, ms dish!!! take your time and keep going strong, will always be here to support your stuff no matter what 💗💗
As a professional illustrator, it's really refreshing seeing adults beginning their artistic journey. Take your time and don't submit yourself to internet algorithm, it really get's in the way. Enjoy the ride, Dish!
@Dominic thank you I have no hobby. Just drawing everyday as a chore which is no fun. What to be good enough to make comics but seems it will require a long amount of time that time comes:*(
@@jenkathefridge3933 I have so many great ideas which is the reason why I'm drawing even. Want the world to see them in the future but also good enough art to not have my ideas limited on paper :)
One of the reasons I love the 'Art Series' is because we are able to see someone set a goal for themselves, watch them strive to meet their goal and even see the ups and downs while trying to reach said goals. It can inspire us to set and try to reach our own goals, or even give passed goals a second chance. Its a very human experience we get to see happen ❤(sorry if that doesn't make sense lol)
This is the reason why I came here. I don't really watch her as much as before but I like to see people's ups and downs and progression, it always interests me 🥺 trying your best is the best thing ever when trying something new, I love seeing ppl do well and reach their goals 🪷✨
WOOOOOOO WE'RE HERE LETS GOOOOOO, so happy you took the initiative in the first place !! its a good thing to do something you love even if it's just for yourself, never feel bad for taking breaks or burnout, happens to everyone in something they truly love because they want to get better at it and do their best. you've got time, and we'll always be by your side while you find your way to that peak !! always with love :D
Ya burnouts is a real thing when wanting to get better. It happened so badly I had to stop drawing for 9 months and getting back was hard..lost experience and skills and still dealing with it
@@sael5084 I had to stop drawing because of the medication I was on. It still ruined my ability to get back into drawing, thats how much it fxcked me up (the medication)
Art is for everyone and any age. Just because someone started late doesn’t mean you can’t be an artist, I love watching your progress because it shows anyone can start art at any age. Keep up the great work and don’t feel discouraged!
Absolutely spot on! I was born in 1967 and did some art just for fun in 1988, but had stopped by 1989. Then in June 2019 I started again, and now do digital art with an iPad and Procreate. It's such an absorbing hobby, and I love figuring out how to make my paintings work, including making my many mistakes as I learn from them. Art is creative, so there is NEVER any end to it in terms of gaining knowledge and learning. My work is only amateur, but I feel REALLY blessed to have found this fantastic hobby, where hours can fly by. And even if I don't have much time (as in the last few months due to a house move) I still feel compelled to do at least half an hour a day where I don't have more time. When I'm doing my art I find that my mind is stilled and I feel at peace. Sure, there are frustrating days when everything goes wrong, and it feels like I'm drawing on a brick wall with a potato. If that happens to others here is a great tip I've self learnt. NEVER come away from a session feeling that you have achieved nothing. Even if you're having a bad day, draw at LEAST one thing that you're happy with. Even if it's just a simple shape, but something that comes out just as you wanted it. I've found that by doing that then the next day I feel REALLY energised to continue because I know that I can do it.....i just need to keep on practicing and being consistent.
@@bobjames6622 I love to hear that! I feel like a lot of older artists feel intimidated by younger ones because they started later and I hate that. Art should be enjoyed at any age in any form. Keep up the great work and don't feel discouraged! It can be tough and be frustrating, but remember art is for your own enjoyment. Enjoyment from others is just a bonus :)
Please don't ever feel pressured about evolving in your art, art always takes time, and you are growing at your own pace. I can guarantee because I was in your position at one point, that you will become a great artist, best of luck to you.
Watching this made me so happy and even made me tear up a little bit. I've been trying to apply for college to study animation for a while and now that I've finally got the chance, I felt terrified because I've had to make a portfolio of my works and balancing my dissatisfaction with my art and the work schedule that I have, I felt completely frozen, unable to move. But somehow seeing you continue and still feeling the desire to grow as an artist despite the time restrictions and the fear of not living up to your own expectations reminded me of why I want to go to college in the first place. Also, I just generally love seeing people grow on their art journeys and you grown so much. It fills my brain with happiness seeing you press on and persevere. I'm definitely going to subscribe to keep up with your growth and what you'll become in the future. (No pressure tho! Take your time) I'm genuinely happy about you deciding to make this channel. Sincerely, thank you.
Also the editing in this video was generally wonderful. I hope this isn't creepy since we're literal strangers, but I loved seeing you having simple happy times with your husband and your silly little cats. This was just a breath of fresh air to me
You've got this! College and portfolio work can be daunting, especially when you feel like it's putting all of your dissatisfaction on display. But you want to know what the best art advice I ever got was? Just because you can see it doesn't mean they can. Don't point it out unless they ask, and they're not likely to notice. Granted, people who are far better than us probably will notice, but seeing your confidence and pride can absolutely be a major factor in getting you into the position that you want. They know you're going to learn. What they're wanting to see is your consistency of practice/work/growth, and your determination to keep going :3
I never write comments but I wanted to here! I want to say that a good rule to have as an artist and a content creator is to keep a good amount of your work entirely to yourself - whether it be a percentage of what you draw or a sketchbook that nobody else sees but you. It creates a safer environment where you can just create for the fun of it rather than think everything you create must be shown for content. I have been an artist for a long time, and I got stuck in a burnout phase for a similar reason. Best of luck on your artistic journey! Everyone struggles, whether they have just started or have had many years of experience. I have enjoyed your content for a long time now, and I'm excited to see where this new path takes you (of course, only the parts you wish to show)! Take care of yourself before anything else.
Dish you are an artist. This video is art. And art takes time and you are so right it's not a linear process. I think that's the reason everyone loves this series so much: you're so honest with the process and the struggles and high points, in a way that is refreshing and inspiring. Thank you so much for taking the time and making the sacrifices to film your art journey with us!
I believe an artist isn’t something to be, it’s something you are. Seeing the way you created that drink with such care, the wonderful videography and editing, your interest in kintsugi and crochet (and likely many other creative things!), your beautiful soft manner, and your really good drawings…I can tell you were born an artist; all you have to do is express it! Much love and thank you for sharing with us 💗
I know this video is called I want to be an artist, but I feel like dish already is. Don't force yourself. It's okay to go through art block and burn out. Anyways, I'm so glad she's going to continue to make more art videos because they have always inspired me to keep going in not only my art but other aspirations I have.
The worst thing you can do in art is leaving if you leave, it’s like throwing all your skills down the drain and then when you pick it back up again, you have to relearn those skills so don’t quit don’t rush draw when you want to draw and have fun❤
You’re gonna be an amazing artist one day I can tell already. We all started somewhere! I’m working toward building my first professional portfolio at 20 years old. But I started drawing when I was 5. Some pro artists are over 40 and started at age 20 (sinix design started at age 19 for example) you’ve got this!
THIS IS SO EXCITING!! as u said, art burnout is a very real thing and i'm glad u made the right decision to let yourself grow off camera and took a break. you still bounced back in the end and it's so exciting that you've made a dedicated art channel?! i hope you won't feel as much pressure to record on here. we're here for you, every step of the way!!! :)
Thank you for approaching your whole art journey with so much thoughtfulness... watching you pick up a new hobby and a new skill can inspire people to be brave and do the same, but I think being so open about needing time and space for your art to be self motivated, and sharing that the process can be a struggle is inspiring too. It certainly is to me. Growing as an artist involves self critique, sure, but also a lot of self compassion, and setting better boundaries for how you want your journey to go sounds wonderful to me
As an self-taught artist myself, i'm so happy to know you didn't gave up on drawing!! I know very well the struggles, i've been drawing for more than 4 years and i'm still learning every day hahah And Dish, you're already being an inspiration for many people, including me! See your motivation and wanting to learn makes me inspired to achieve my art goals too 🥺🤲💖 YOU GO GIRL!!!! Thanks for making these videos and don't force yourself too much, art is something that flows naturally. Always try to have fun 💐 x
As a person who does art as a hobby, It takes awhile to get a full grasp of of it, especially drawing. I started drawing since I was in first grade and it took me 5 years to figure out what my style was. I draw anime and I didn’t get decently good at drawing till I was 11 I started using references (which make your drawings more accurate, for poses especially) and got a good grasp of how to shade correctly. But the fact that you are able to get to this level in a couple of months shows how dedicated and skilled you are. I’m very proud of you.
art burnout is so real but i’m really happy that u decided to keep pursuing art. it’s not easy to learn something new, but it’ll be nice to see u draw again online and watch u grow, and maybe even draw alongside u !
Wow i just got a random notification, i clicked and i wasn't disappointed considering the fact that i am a self-taught artist too who kind of abandoned drawing portrait, became really good at this and was starting to slowly improving to body, anatomy and dynamic poses etc I continued to watch different art process without really training but your video definitely sparked something in me again. This is the video every wannabe artist needs and deserve. Thank you for remotivating me going back to my drawings You Gain a new Subscriber!!!!!
This is so relatable as someone who started a RU-vid channel and has kinda fallen off. Filming your art puts so much pressure that it doesn’t feel fun anymore . I hope you don’t loose the passion to draw ❤️ stay positive, stay motivated.
ive been practicing my own art for over half of my life now, and hearing you talk about having this desire to be an artist and to just commit to learning and going all in is so inspiring to me. i've struggled and struggled trying to find a stable and regular practice, trying to fit into what i've believed you have to do to "make it" as an artist and always feeling as though my skill will never reach the heights ive always envisioned in my work. but the way you frame your own creative process and journey is so helpful, thank you so much for sharing.
as an art major who wants to start a youtube channel about all the things i'm passionate about, this is really cool. i've had a similar problem; i'll film clips and try to make myself create content and then i fall into a slump, i forget the passion i had for it, and it never gets released. i still have yet to put my videos out but i think this might've been the thing i needed. thank u :)
I love your determination to still go on after a burnout, it shows that you’re really passionate about learning this skill. It’s great and inspiring how you’re still willing to draw and create content about it. I’m really impressed Dish, you’re amazing!! Take however much time you need for this :)
I used to draw often and I put so much pressure on myself. I’m a huge perfectionist and one little mistake would drive me crazy. I took a long break from drawing. I’ve learned to accept mistakes and continue to learn from them. One of my favorite things to do is to compare my art from years ago to now. It puts into perspective how much you’ve really improved! It has gotten me into thinking about drawing again. I wish you the best of luck on your journey
I’m really happy to know that you didn’t give up and continued drawing how it feels better for yourself, you’ve improved your art so much. I’m excited to see more of your drawings and future things you do in this channel. Love you miss Dish 💗
At 26 I decided I want to be an art teacher to middle schoolers! I’m excited by my career future for the first time in like a long time, revisiting this hobby I was so happy with and not-too-bad at! Happy to be on this journey with you!
a lot of artists struggle when they commodify their hobby, so i'm very glad that you're letting yourself experience this process in your own way! i hope you find joy in learning and freedom in creativity 🌻 and thank you for the silly chai clip + kitty content hehe
this hit the same time I've also just committed to fully dive into learning art. I've always wanted to be an artist but always made the excuse that I don't have time, resources, or talent. But it's been years now and I still go back to DREAMING OF BEING AN ARTIST so I'm starting now. Thanks, this made me feel less alone about starting late.
I'm so happy to see you get back into drawing! I've been a lurker of your channel for a while, but I wanted to say as an experienced artist myself you absolutely made the right choice in letting yourself learn without the added pressure of content creation. The perception that all art must be 'good' to be 'worth' something is a mindset that has deterred a lot of people from art. It makes me really happy for you as a newer artist dive into picking up the skill despite the fears or doubts you may have. It's a brave and (obviously from these other comments) inspiring thing for you to do. Everybody here is cheering you on, so have fun learning these new skills! You're gonna have a great time and I'm especially excited to see what your personal style will turn out to be.
dish once she sells her soul and learns a shit ton: kaeya fanart for days all jokes aside, FIGHTINGGGG!!!! ART IS SO FUCKING HARD AND UR DOING SO DAMN GOOD
i'm so excited and i'm so SO happy that you're excited about it as well. as an artist (this is literally my job) i was so happy to see you learning to draw and i was so inspired by your enthusiasm!! it energised me at the time to continue learning. i'm sorry you had experienced burn out and i'm happy to see you overcoming it
you’re amazing dish! don’t feel pressured to post every little detail and film every time you draw, i think videos like this one of you telling us about the experience you’re having, your thoughts and some b-roll… it’s pretty special. i love it!
I've been very excited for this video for a while because you were one of the biggest inspirations for me to start taking drawing/art more seriously. Considering how much of a struggle it is to learn drawing on its own, I can't imagine how difficult it is to also document and make videos off of. I can't wait to see where this channel goes and what art you make in the future. Thanks for being such and inspiration and keep up the awesome work Ms Dish!
I'm so happy to watch more dish art content!! The art you showed already shows so much progress and I'm proud of you and can't wait to see more! Good luck with your art journey ms dish❤️
I’m so glad I chanced upon this because I’m feeling it too :) Thank you for making these and illustrating your thoughts on these! It’s so true that this process is not a linear process and sometimes being a creator oF that process can add that extra pressure and expectation even if you didn’t mean for it to happen. All the very best in the rest of your journey and I hope that above all kind of content you feel you gotta do, that you’ll be able to fully emerge in that process you’re talking about and will feel the joy of art in every step u take ^.^
This got me in the feels :3 Thank you so much for hearing your community and constantly trying to provide us with what comforts us. It means a lot as a viewer and as much as I’d love to see more of this type of content more often, I understand that being creative is a whole process and I’d rather see you take your time to create what you are passionate about, rather than to try and create content that your not completely satisfied with 😊✨ In saying that, I look forward to being inspired and being able to improve in my own skill
Watched your two recent vids with my morning coffee and it’s so cool that you’re drawing and making art. I think that it’s truly one of my favorite things to do, because it can be so relaxing and rewarding. But also has brought many hardships
Your drawings are beautiful! This was really inspiring, and it takes a lot of patience to learn a new skill and even a certain level of vulnerability to document it online. Kudos to you for trying something new in the first place. You can only get better from this point!!
hi dish! your video appeared on the home page of youtube for me and i found it really inspiring. i've always wanted to learn how to draw properly the things i saw on my mind but never had the discipline to try. you inspired me to try again! thank you and keep up the good work :)
I’m so happy. I love ur recent drawings! I’m so excited to see your videos, and your progress is amazing! I know you might not see this but you are amazing, and remember, slow progress is still progress!
I've only recently started watching you, but I'm excited to try and follow along this journey with you :D Use to love drawing so much when I was younger, but now it's been such a long time since I've seriously done it. I too want to be an artist c:
Honestly, watching this video gave me lots of confidence and relief. I'm currently a month away from graduating high school and I feel so paranoid with my future in terms of following my dream in becoming a comic illustrator/animator. I didn't have an art class up until my senior year due to my schedule not allowing it and I've always felt ashamed of myself because I always wanted to have a career in the art field. When it came time to apply for college, I became anxious in seeing how hard it was for me to make art for my portfolio and I ended up not applying at all because of my self esteem. I always indulged myself in seeing someone else's portfolio and compare it to what I have and realize it isn't enough. I always struggled in picking up my pencil to draw as I make excuses for myself. For example, I always say "Oh, I have lots of homework to do, I won't be able to have time" or "Oh, I'm so busy I don't have time" knowing fully well that I do have free time. I just don't take advantage of it. But now as my final school year is coming to an end, I'm pushing myself to draw more in my sketchbook as I was so used to drawing digitally. I'm learning the fundamentals all over again and applying it to both my digital and traditional art realizing I should've learned sooner. However, after watching this video I feel like my love for art has reignited again and I want to thank you. :) I'll be taking a gap year, but I am determined that I will make my dream come true.
i wish good luck on your art journey! i've been following the art journey vids on your main channel and it was very heart-warming to see your process. as an artist myself, i can relate that it really took a while to be able to love your own art as your preference changes and your standards also rises as you see other's art. it can feel devastating but taking time to process is important. few months ago, i decided to join an art class and go back to the fundamentals, and it has been an eye opener to me and able to see things differently. so, i believe it's never too late to learn! :)
I loved this video so much!! it's vulnerable and relatable. For me I get burnt out if I force my self to draw but when I draw on impulse or when when I want too I end up drawing x10 more than when I force myself to draw. Looking forward to all of the things you have planned for this channel, also don't worry about not making art videos on time!! I believe the most important thing about art is having fun and to play around with it :D
As a fellow artist I WISH YOU THE BEST 💕💕✨ Dont feel the need to make a masterpiece everytime you draw! Sometimes I open a blank canvas and just doodle without any real goal. I hope you can continue the art journey without so much stress 🙌
Thank you for sharing this video and be so honest. I'm in this path too for a long time, and now trying to really learn the fundamentals to try Concept Art as a career and honestly 2 months and a half has passed and I feel insecure, burned out and really questioning the love I always had for art at this point and if I can really make it or not. We really have to take our time to learn and enjoy the process too. Good luck! I subscribed to follow the journey!
watching your first video felt like i was looking in the mirror, art was always a passions of mine that kept on pick and dropping, with some outside help and i managed to work and change some of my habits and when i stumbled upon your video it was the last motivation kick in the butt i needed, i picked it up again, started artventuring a long side you and haven't dropped it ever since♥ i guess it was matter of timing, and i would have picked it either way BUT I'm bad at studying and you captured all that things new artists need to learn so well and that helped me so much, thank you!
One of the bits of advice that I've stumbled on that might be good for art babies is that you need hours, but too much traditional practice will kill your passion. So instead of doing that all the time use references to help you see your vision as you try to put idea to paper. Learn thousands of little things over thousands of pieces that you personally had a passion in and it won't feel as much of a chore and you'll hopefully burn out less. It's fine to burn out. It's fine take breaks. Everyone needs to recharge by doing other things that they're passionate about to have the passions feed each other. Make goals, try and fail. And then keep trying and failing. We all stumble as artists. You were already an artist the moment you took this path. Hope your art journey becomes fruitful. Quack 🦆
I wanted to thank you Dish for these amazing videos. I've always loved drawing but didn't have the motivation to take it too seriously but you helped me concentrate and it's always a pleasure to just watch your video and draw at the same time in a chill space. The link that you provided in the previous videos helped me a lot and I feel like I improved since. I yhink that your drawings are getting better and better and I'm amazed at your improvement, good luck for the road ahead and thank you for all the amazing support you give !
Oh my god, this video made me so happy and motivated somehow. Thank you dish, truly waiting for more content in this channel& wanna improve myself with you!
Really cool vid dish! I took arts for college and my god did it really take out the joy in the hobby when you try too hard on it. Hope you continue your journey and keep seeing the joy in creating!
Omg I'm officially the 970th subscriber WOOOO!!!! I discovered your art series back when my relationship with art was in a really bad phase and your videos really helped me restore my love for it. I'm super excited to see more videos in this new channel💖💖💖
Thats motivating me so much to also try and be consistent with my art journey after feeling really burnt out from it!! Thank u so much dish and don't stress yourself!! Your first priority should always be ur happiness and I will be happy with the stuff you decide to share!! (Also ur art pieces look amazing!
First video of yours to pop into my recommended and after watching it I genuinely wish you the best on your art journeys. Starting is the most important and bumps in the road are inevitable. Though I may have given up my journey, it’s still nice to see people doing their best to work on their goals. Here for it!
Can't wait to see you draw even more dish ♡ I have been following for so long on RU-vid, and I will continue. I love seeing you happy about your art ♡ I want to create a webtoon, the script is ready, and everything is ok. I just need to find my art style, which I think it goes well. I am still learning different ways to draw so I can practice more. Can't wait to begin my story 🤗
I just stumbled upon your video while on a train back home, it is so inspiring to see as someone who wants to start with art more seriously. This just might be the motivation I was looking for, thank you.
So proud of you dish!! Your arts already looking good i could never! it’s so nice seeing you experiment beca7e i’ve been watching you for a long while, i’m so proud and happy to be a subscriber! you’re so cool and it’d be awesome to be your friend you’re like every good quality into one person
I adore the new art channel dish! Im especially in love with you including ideas like kansuki, crochet and the drink making in the beginning feels like a natural evolution of your art series. The idea that living life itself and all of the vulnerabilities is art. A beautiful idea for a beautiful person.
