You're correct. It was a statement piece, and it did exactly what it was supposed to. The model is actually his ex Kathy Jeung (I probes got the last name wrong, but hey, it's 1am, someone will correct me). I just remember this song hitting right about the time I started, y'know, so it caught my eye even more than it would have. Went from Wham! to this. You can be 1,000% certain EVERYONE noticed.

The pop station I listened to decided it was still too much and re-edited the long two-part album version, so the song became "I Want Your Love." That version was absurd. George's direct insinuation was unprecedented at the time - while sex had been alluded to in pop songs before, he was one of the first to explicitly state the sexual desire in such blunt terms, and have it become a major hit. Even artists like Prince tended to use more coded, metaphorical language about sex in their popular tracks. In contrast, George's lyrics like "I want your sex" and "Don't you think it's time you had sex with me?" came across as comparatively brazen for the era. Of course, looking back, the song now seems almost quaint in its forwardness, given how much more explicit pop music has become over the years.

The song's racy lyrics sparked widespread controversy in 1987. Radio host Casey Kasem of American Top 40 refused to even say the song's title on his countdown show. Religious right-leaning churches vehemently denounced the track. Some programming directors went so far as to remove the song from their station's rotation. MTV required George to record a disclaimer about the dangers of casual sex, which aired before each airing of the video. The mere mention of "sex" in the song's lyrics seemingly sent the entire nation into an uproar. It was as if many folks had somehow forgotten the basic biology behind human procreation.
