POLO! You nailed it 100% I'm one of the "softies" who got a little misty at the beginning. It wasn't just the song itself, but more had to do with the feeling I had watching you listening to and discovering it for the first time. You reacted to it exactly as I knew you would. I have never enjoyed reaction videos nearly as much as I do yours, and I know why. It's because music means as much to you as it does to me. Music has depth of experience that touches me like only very few other things. At age 61, I enjoy music from virtually all genres. Rock, blues, jazz, rap, R&B, big band music, opera, rave music, country, and standards such as Frank Sinatra, Nat King Cole, Tony Bennett, etc. All of those I enjoy. Keep up the good work!

my mum died in a hospice from cancer as well, 'merkel cell' carcinoma, a rare form of skin cancer that makes melanoma look like a frigging sun spot. It's so uncommon that my uncle (a doctor) who was in his 70's at the time said the last time HE had heard of merkel cell carcinoma was "in medical school." I didn't get a song when she passed, just a phone call, but I remember listening to The Waifs each trip to the hospice.........and back, and this song stuck in my head. Rest in peace all those lost mums, and moms, and dads. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-IxbdPKROwR0.html

I grew up in BC, Haida Gwaii is one of my favourite places on earth. The land and nature is stunning, however the Haida Nation and the cultures within the Haida Nation are incredible as well. I had dinner with several elders and all were some of the most amazing people I have ever had the experience and pleasure of meeting. Your culture is incredibly fascinating, and your languages are very important. I have tried to learn Xaad Kil, but with little success. Please continue to keep the Haida languages alive for future generations. Have a great day.

Folks just nead to be respectful and speak from the heart without judgement. This brings unity. Something out political heads hate. They only care to divide by any means and concur . The vices are fear hate and religious leaders do this to All in name of God . The path of so much death Can we not learn by now. Song: One tin man rode away speaks this. Music teaches can't we all just listen and close our mouths To make martin Luther s dream happen

I grew up in Oregon in the 50-60's a few miles from I-5. (Vanc BC to Tiajuana). We 'discovered' hitchhiking at a young age, when a 60 mile trip to the coast or the mountains to fish were an adventure. I don't remember what possessed my best friend & I in 1967, but we made a sign w/ SF on it & road our bikes to our stashing spot by the freeway. In less than 20 min a VW bus nearly full of UW students from Seattle picked us up, headed for San Francisco. I had an aunt I used to go stay with who lived south of SF. She loved SF & walking the city. By the 4th or 5th visit, I knew SF like my hometown, was confident there & felt safe. Turns out I was the only one in the bus who'd been there before, some I gave a seminar to these college kids as we smoked pot all the way there. They finally told us about a music festival they were going to. We knew nothing about it cause we were from small town Oregon. They dropped us off by Golden Gate Park, the next morning, right into the middle of the 2nd week of The Summer of Love. We got home 3+ weeks later, (our moms knew where we were) & we were in BIG trouble, but it was worth it. Well worth it. I think we made 6 trips back to SF between then & 71, when my friend was killed in an auto accident. I, too, am glad I grew up when I did! GeoD

Lynyrd Skynyrd was my fathers favorite band. I grew up hearing their music play in our house everyday. When Ronny Van Zandt and his band mates died in the plane crash, it was one of the only times I saw him cry. By the time I was 10 years old, I knew the words to every song on every album and saw them in concert twice. All of these adults in awe that me and my 7 year old sister knew all the words. My dad has long since passed but the lover for LS continues on in us. What they were able to accomplish in the short amount of time the original members were together and the quality of music they produced was extraordinary. One of the first groups to showcase TWO lead guitarists who were so in tune with each other that most people dont realize there are two separate guitars playing... like Freebird.

A song that speaks what good Mothers want for their sons; as a Mother I’ve been blessed with a son who is now 31 and is a strong, confident, intelligent, principled man who brings us pride and joy ❤. You, Polo, are a fine man who has done much to be proud of; I know from some of your commentary that you did not have an easy childhood, and yet now you are a good father to your son. Job well done, Sir. To top it off, you got off the hampster wheel and have taken an employment risk that is paying off; working on your own terms. Bravo!

As another mom who has raised a son, you speak for me too! My 36 year old son was raised by me, a divorced mom (alone), and has become a simple man, raising 3 kids on his own. My former daughter in law had drug and alcohol problems and ran afoul of the law. She was out of the picture for 8 years, and is now easing her way back into the picture. So far, so good, but I am holding my breath. I am so proud of the man and father that my son has become, in spite of it all.

Polo, the fact of people not speaking is NOT necessarily about the shade of your skin...This is a time unlike any other in history; a time of paranoia and utter distrust and deliberately caused division. It's a DANGEROUS time and the danger creates suspicion not merely about skin shade...It's about ANYBODY EACH PERSON DOES NOT KNOW. Thank-you for sharing this story as it helps people to define what's really important and the necessity of the world's PEOPLE COMING TOGETHER TO OPPOSE THE WEALTHY ESTABLISHMENT SEEKING TO MURDER US ALL. My son was born in 1974, the year after the release of this song. My brother, 8 years younger than I, was, by that time, a huge Lynyrd Skynyrd fan. Unbeknownst to me, he coached my little one to say the band's name at a very young age. Eventually, whenever he heard a Lynyrd Skynyrd song, he yelled it out much to my brother's delight. Great memories for me now that my brother is gone. Thank you for a great reaction to a memorable song. My brother was the epitome of a simple man, and lived the life this mother wished for her son.

And to be honest, in this day and time it really taxes you. Life isn't always fair. When you feel you are at your wits end, stop and chill and remember back when you were young and then you can understand what your mom told you.!🤔

I think a component of Lynyrd Skynyrd's music that gets overlooked is how complex it really is. It sounds like pretty basic blues, and it is based on blues, but there's a reason why they have a 5-to- 7-piece band: there are a LOT of moving parts being coordinated in most of their songs, and much of it is difficult to play. They were all very talented musicians who put in the work to be good at their jobs.

They had lots of great songs such as "Sweet Home Alabama", "Call Me The Breeze", "Tuesday's Gone", "That Smell", "The Ballad Of Curtis Loew", "What's Your Name", "Gimme Three Steps", "Saturday Night Special" etc.

Lynyrd Skynyrd has the best lyrics and their music fit the words perfectly. Free bird. You become a free flying bird at the end. Simple Man. This is what most mothers taught you and wanted out of you. Soulful. Beautiful. Takes you to a different world.

All the heart ache that brings a person to know that the simple things are really the important things. Spelled Lynyrd Skynyrd. They renamed their band after their PE coach Leonard Skinner and a character of the same name in an early 60’s humorous summer camp song called, “Hello Muddah, Hello Fadduh”. Their producer, the famous Al Kooper, thought Simple Man was a boring song and didn’t want it on the album. Ronnie told him to take a hike and they recorded it and it ended up on their first album, Pronounced. This is the song I gave my only son when he was born. This song, along with Freebird, is 50 years old now.

The story has been embellished a bit; I never heard Kooper thought the song was boring, rather he felt there was stronger material for the album. Kooper said the band simply stayed late in the recording studio after he left and recorded the song. Keep in mind Kooper obviously warmed up to the song was he did all the piano work on the final recording.

So many things to get out of this song. The mother knows that being humble, honest and without covetness can bring true happiness. I grew up in Alabama, and had the privilege of seeing Lynyrd Skynyrd in concert in Birmingham. I’ve tried to live by this song as much as possible. It seems to have worked for me. I only wish that I had been better at it. I’m 70 years old now, and I’m getting pretty good at keeping things simple. I surely wish I could have done it earlier. Live, love, laugh, above all, keep it simple. Peace out.
