The contractor who did this terrible work was Pro Elevated Plumbing. Owner is Devin Mangrum. Horrible experience all around. Destiny Contractors did a great job fixing it!
Yeah, I totally get that. I hate it when people try to cut corners just because it’s gonna sell soon or it is just a rental. This is on the market to be sold. However, this installation is so far beyond what is acceptable that it had to be fixed. I try and give people a good balance of Quality and affordability especially for things that are going to sell or rent.
As a general rule, I would agree with you. In this case, he actually hired from a reputable source can’t say the company here, but they are a multimillion dollar company nationwide. Unfortunately, he does not live there any longer, and was not there when installation was completed. Payment was demanded immediately and he did pay for this. I do not have permission to call out the specific companies that were involved. But I will say that this kind of thing is what makes it hard for reputable contractors to earn a living.
@@DestinyContractorsBy reason of induction, this was not a hire from a reputable source. In fact I'd argue a disreputable source Something like the McDonalds of contracting.
@@GimpGladly I get your point. I just want everyone to understand that there is a new trend in construction. Reputable contractors are subcontracting their work to people without a license. That is what happened here. If you are a homeowner, you need to be aware. If you are a contractor, you need to pay very close attention to who you subcontract to.
I’m with your brother. Hopefully these people will hire me to fix this i’d love to make it right for them. I will definitely show the finished product if they do.
Oh definitely believe it. Trust me I have seen far worse. The thing that makes the super special is. This was a licensed contractor. They paid money to have it look this bad. Watch the rest of the follow up videos on my page and you’ll see what a real contractor can do with limited resources.
Definitely a horrible job. One of the worst I’ve ever seen. It makes it so much worse that they paid to have it done. Watch the rest of the follow-up videos I have on my page and you’ll see what Destiny Contractors can do.
According to the customer, they were not home when it was completed. Contractor demanded full payment over the phone. The lesson to all homeowners is demand pictures at the very least before payment.
I met a bunch of roofers who got paid in crack. I asked them why they were tearing the roof off the second building when they had only torn half the roof off the the first. "Wrong address."
One of the reasons that there’s not a ton of videos on my page is that everything you see is 100% real. Everything from the stories to the videos that I do I’m actually on the job site doing the work and think this will be a good video and I do it. If you want to see how this gets fixed, you can see the rest of the videos on my page.
Retired after 45 years of renovations and I must agree....that is the worst install I've ever seen. I can only imagine what the plumbing looks like underneath. No pride in workmanship whatsoever.
You can see video of the Plumbing on the rest of my platform. I have full length videos on the entire repair. The plumbing actually is perfect. It leads me to believe this was a plumber who decided to do some carpentry lol.
@@Martin.Wilson some people have suggested that the customer did it themselves and didn’t want to admit it. Entirely possible. Thanks for the support. Always cool to see people from other countries. It makes the world seem a little smaller.
You probably could if you have a little common sense. I’ve seen many homeowners (with no training) who do things that are may be a little bit wrong, But certainly better than this.
Even the WORST contractors I know, would never do this. This is what happens when a family friend "knows a guy who does it for cheap..." this is bonkers. Even if they bought another counter top section, it would only be like $75. If that was too much to take out of profit, how much did they get paid? Remember, if someone offers to do the job for cheaper than you can DIY, then there is probably gonna be some issues.😮😮😮
Hey you really shouldn't be complaining about the contractor's horrible finished job 😱 because it's not easy being only 5 years old and having to work 🤦
I am not aware that they actually took the cheapest bid they did hire what was supposed to be a reputable contractor. Good reputation. People need to treat contractors like doctors once you find a good one you don’t switch.
where is the chrome block of cover where the water sprayer would be. with a quality job like this they could have went the distance with chrome cover. wow what a hack job i have seen something similar on old automobiles when folks think they know how to cut a dash board for a radio to fit. but this really is an award winner of shoddy work. hope you fixed them up properly.
If you watch the rest of the videos, I have on this installation you will see the plumbing work. Given that the plumbing work actually is perfect. I have to assume that this guy was a better plumber than a carpenter.
They got a real good price on that lesson! Could have been a shower install or worse. The question is will they get their money's worth from the lesson or make the same series of poor decisions finding the next guy. You'd think this is a lesson that only needs to be learned once...
Definitely a clear, Con man. I agree. They charge this customer $1000 for that install. I was happy to help them fix it. Wasn’t even that hard whole thing took about six hours, including filming.
That does seem to be a popular theory. I was told that they were not home and we weren’t allowed to view the work before they had to pay. Sometimes customers will make up a sob story in order to get sympathy and a cheaper price.
@@DestinyContractors I can't imagine any contractor, even a massively incompetent one, doing a job that horribly bad. They wouldn't be in business more than a week before being sued. Would never survive! :D. Cool video.
Caulking reminds me of time i installed new cabinets in old house. Out of plumb, not level any direction. I shimmed and got it best fit i used good brand of caulk but did not pay enough attention to type . Caulk was white on install, filled all of the irregular openings. I was proud. Went back a week later; damn caulk turned clear as it cured. Ugliest caulk job ever.
You are right. It is the same here. There is a loophole for existing work. It becomes a catch 22 sometimes. If they require bringing everything up to modern code on renovation, then no one can afford it and everything just fall apart.
Looks like the same guy who installed a bathroom sink in an apartment I once had: caulk everywhere, about a half inch thick in the back of the basin. Even the kitchen sink drain was caulked (no plumber's putty). Rule number one: never let the handyman keep a caulk gun in his toolbox.
I would bet that that was actually the homeowner and they’re blaming it on a contractor. If that was done by a real contractor, their license would be under review
Sorry, but that’s not how it works in the state. There are no licensing requirements for contractors. I’ve been licensed in other states where there was. This state makes it very easy, therefore makes it very difficult to find good workers.
We sure this wasn’t the homeowner’s work and they’re too embarrassed to admit it so a ‘contractor’ is to blame? I’ve seen some pretty bad work by the trades but nothing quite this amazing.
Why would they pay the contractor? I would not have handed any money over to the guy that did this! I would have made it clear that this needs to be corrected if you expect to get paid.
Definitely a mistake on their part. They said they were not home when this was completed. They do not currently live there. I never actually met them during the whole process. When I was finished, I sent them completion pictures.
Looks like the countertop has been cut with a chainsaw , with another top and a proper cut the ascetics could be rectified, as often in old buildings not everything is sqare and level so measure twice, cut once
Unless the owner told you the name of the contractor, I'd be willing to bet he is just saying that so that he doesn't have to 'fess up to being the butcher.
bro, the home owner definitely did that... homeowner is probably embarrassed and blamed a contractor... there is no way a contractor with a website/storefront/business card would allow that job to represent his business ESPECIALLY with how easy it is to roast/cancel someone on social media... this is the work of the homeowner or the homeowner's friend/co-worker.
First of all contractors rarely have store fronts. Second, in our state, anyone could be a contractor, so there are so many and so much work that you can go on for years doing stuff like this and make lots of money. It makes it hard for everyone. You need to understand that there are contractors who do this kind of work even with the storefront and business cards. Just because someone has a lot of business capital to get started doesn’t mean that they know how to do the work.
@@DestinyContractors AND I would never hire a contractor who does not have an office/building/headquarters/physical address for the "business" aka "storefront"...
@@deezle1460 that’s okay I don’t work for people with unrealistic expectations. Like me spending $1,200 a month on rent for a store front office. For what I can do in my basement. I have been in business for nearly 20 years and no one has ever asked to see my office. It’s the guys who have the office that you have to worry about. There the ones doing shady deals to make ends meet.
I mean, probably. Overwhelmingly the contractors who are responding seem to think that the homeowner did it themselves. That is entirely possible but it is also possible for Contractor to work this bad and think that they are a great Contractor.
This was my initial reaction video. You can see the plumbing in other videos on my page. The reason I didn’t show the plumbing underneath is that it looks perfect. This leads me to believe this was a plumber who decided to do some carpentry that day. LOL
We have the same code here. But In most cases, you have an exemption for renovation. In general, though American codes are much more lenient than European codes. Freedom baby.🇺🇸
It was not Angie’s. But I get your point. Not all referral places are created equal. Companies like Angie’s and Lowe’s have more control over their subcontractors. You have to be careful.
@@DestinyContractors “be careful” means don’t use them. Any of them. They pretty much ALL suck. I’ve not found ONE that vettes the people they refer in any meaningful way. Using them is a roll of the dice.
@@jimnora1705 I know he also went through a reputable referral company. Home Depot. I’ve never done Installations for them. I don’t know how their process works. I do Installations for Lowe’s, and if something like this was done Lowes would stand behind it and send someone else to complete it at no additional cost.
@@DestinyContractorsSince the service wasn't performed by the store, I can't fault them for not covering it. No receipt, no warranty. Now, if the owner knew who the employee was that referred this hack, I'd be willing to bet that they are no longer employed by HD. I used to be a sub for HD, and Lowes, and know that employees "outsourcing" installed products was not tolerated.
@@mrcryptozoic817: A jigsaw is the usual way to cut these countertops but you need use a special laminate blade that has downward pointing teeth. You have to press firmly on the tool to make sure it doesn’t start bouncing and it’s also best, in my experience, to place masking tape over the cut line and draw the line on the tape and then make the cut through the tape.
@@rayray8687 I used to use a jigsaw. You can see in other videos how I made the cut in the laminate. I used an oscillating tool to score the line through the laminate. Then used a Skil saw to finish the cut through the wood. I’ve been using this method for 10 years or so, and it really works better and faster than a jigsaw.
I had a couple other people from other countries noticed this as well. The electrical outlet is not supposed to be behind the sink for sure. They do allow a loophole for renovation. Not sure when that code came in. It is possible that there was not a sink here when the house was built. It may have been added later. Those renovations are supposed to get inspected, but rarely are. You also have to understand this is the wild west. There are areas in the county where you can build an entire house and not have to have a single inspection.
@@alanwallis2467 you are so welcome. It’s really awesome to hear from people around the world. I used to work with two brothers from Ireland. It was always interesting to hear how they grew up and the differences and culture.
I have seen a lot of comments like this. What I want everyone to understand is the new trend is to subcontract your work. Those subcontractors are rarely well vetted. It’s usually those people who do the bad work. When the homeowner complains the main contractor with the good reputation that they hired simply says that they’re not responsible for what their subcontractor does. Sometimes those subcontractors get fired. Sometimes not. That’s why I personally do all my own work. I am way too picky to hire someone to do it for me.
😂 that is not even close to contractor work😂 the customer's most likely did it. Didn't want to admit it and blamed a contractor they never hired. Looks like a meth head work 😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂
Do not blame the one who did that shitty work blame the owner, many times owners go with the cheap guy then thats what they get. Good work is not cheap and cheap work is bullshit.
