Greetings from Damascus everyone, this is my latest Syria Vlog. I will visit the Sultan Vahdettin Tomb in the Süleymaniye Mosque. My friend Deniz Büstani will accompany me on this road. First, I talk to people on the streets of Damascus.
About Sultan Vahdettin Tomb:
Sultan Vahdettin Tomb is a historical burial structure located in Istanbul, Turkey. The tomb is the last Ottoman sultan, VI. It is the place where the tomb of Mehmed Vahdettin (Vahdettin Efendi) is located. Sultan Vahdettin abdicated the throne in 1918 and went into exile from Istanbul. While he was in exile, he was sent to Malta under the auspices of the French, then moved to Italy and continued his life there. In 1922, Sultan Vahdettin returned to Istanbul and received an offer of citizenship by the founder of the Turkish Republic, Mustafa Kemal Atatürk, but he did not accept this offer.
Sultan Vahdettin died on May 16, 1926 in San Remo, Italy. His body was brought to Turkey and buried in the courtyard of Eyüp Sultan Mosque in Eyüp district of Istanbul. In addition to the historical and cultural importance of Istanbul, which was once the capital of the Ottoman Empire, the tomb of Sultan Vahdettin has a special place in that it houses the tomb of the last sultan of the Ottoman Dynasty.
The tomb has a structure that reflects the characteristic features of Ottoman architecture and is visited by visitors with historical importance. The architectural structure and interior decorations of the tomb are full of elements that reflect the art and aesthetics of the Ottoman period.
