@JGFFOX Tbf the actual peter parker is a mix between a nerd and a cool guy in the comics. In fact he only acted completely nerdy when he didn't get bit. Idk if it's me but many of the comics I've read portray as a cool guy in general.

@JGFFOX I'm not saying that peter shouldn't be a nerd. I'm just saying he shouldn't be too much of a nerd, he's spiderman for God's sake he has to have some coolness and confidence from being a superhero. There should be a good balance in those departments like spectacular spider-man's peter.

But it made for a rather interesting and satisfying character arc in the first movie. I find it a bit sad that people don't appreciate it because he didn't instantly become this perfect superhero we all know.

Andrew Garfield was a thousand times better than Toby for this role imo. He could play it cool, play it dorky, play it downright weird when need be. That scene where he hit Gwen with a web and spun her around for a kiss because he was too afraid to tell her he was Spiderman, but was also too afraid of losing her to his secret...that was an awesome moment!

Rey Marcus Sebastian peter doesn’t think aunt may knows he’s spiderman. but she kinda picks up on it, the ceiling light was moving (because he had bumped into it while stuck to the roof) so it was again showing us that she knew or at least was picking up on it by now. she says later in the movie that she knew for a while that he was spiderman :)

The problem with this version of Spiderman was that he wasn't really considered good or evil. He fucks around with criminals and stalls time to the point that other people are literally getting killed while he's fucking around. He's definitely not the "hero" type in this version of Spiderman. He doesn't actually go beat up criminals because of responsibly but because of anger and revenge. Not to mention but he's a complete dickhead. He's the type of guy to steal money from a donation box, comes back an hour later and put the money in the same box and tell the whole world that he's a nice guy cause he donated "his" money to charity. He has more of that narcissist attitude because he's way too arrogant which gets in the way of saving lives that he could of saved when he HAD that chance

A good example, he was literally telling jokes to Rhino while Rhino was driving that truck running people over. and what did this version of Spiderman do? fuck around and tell jokes... While people are being killed..

His entire character arc in the first movie was learning to be a real hero who works to help the people of New York rather than seeking vengeance, which is why he eventually gives up his search for his uncle's killer. You correctly identified the point he needs to grow from. I think he should've changed the eyes of his costume from black to the classic white when that happened, but instead they waited until the second movie. You're analogy with the donation box is nothing like anything in the movie, I'm not entirely sure where you got that from. The scene with Rhino is TERRIBLE. The blocking is awful, the writing is awful, it's a poor ending to ending to a film, no question. But, Spider-Man isn't making jokes while people are dying. Rhino in that scene is just walking down the street? Anyway, no one is getting killed. The civilians just stand around. The police just stand around. The Rhino just stands around. Spider-Man just stands around. Again, that was a bad scene, but it's not like there's anyone he should've been saving instead

@@jacksonrukes7624 That makes even less sense. He was telling jokes, but he was doing so while saving people and almost missing his own graduation to do so. I know some people are very annoyed by the “hero quips in life or death situations” trope, but that’s become a large part of the superhero genre, especially back in 2014. I wouldn’t worry too much about scenes like that in the beginning, anyway. It doesn’t really make more sense, but they tend to make openings really lighthearted versus the later scenes, so logic tends to fall by the wayside. Not always the best scene to judge a character. Plus, Spider-Man is known for quipping in the comics. Apparently there it’s a nervous habit? They never say that in this movie, but I think they tried to make him sound like comic book Spider-Man
