Yeah, those kinds of places be on bullshit. I work in the auto industry, and our place is a lot more lenient. Some dudes in their 90s got away with missing half a dozen days like it was nothing. But then they'll turn around and walk others out for missing earplugs and cellphones.

Not necessarily, more than likely it is a nonunion facility, with a high rate of employee turnover. Even many unionized facilities have strict attendance policies for the 1st 90-120 days.

Depending on the occupation- such as a laborer of sorts at a warehouse or even a phone agent at a call center- some companies will indeed suspend or fire you after your first infraction no matter how good your performance is, if the infraction is during your probationary period. The pool of applicants is so large the company can continue on looking for someone else who can be prompt without fail. Being punctual (on time) is very critical in some industries. Anyway, I just became a fan last month and just subbed today and glad he's doing well after this happened.

I think it’s different. Like he said he was still in probationary period. And they have policies and protocols that must be adhered to. Where can they draw the line- yes one minute definitely doesn’t sound like a big deal at all. Not saying I agree with it, but I understand it. If someone is late- without suitable reasons- there must be action taken in order to ensure employees don’t take advantage of a “grace period”. So as I said before, they have to draw the line somewhere / or else it could be a wavering line.

That's just dumb. It should be legal to fire anyone for whatever reason the employer wants. The import thing is that Shaq has made it now. He's OK and probably doing even better than he was when he made this.

unfortunately, its how a lot of businesses run without bias. we get points at mine. you get a half a point for being up to 2 hours late. a point if you late after the 2 hour mark. if you hit 5 points the system terminates you without bias, even if you misswd the clock in by a minute. it sucks but at the same time it helps eliminate favoritism. either wsy, shaq hit a million subs, so fuck his job.

Hell yea im in the Laborer's Union and they wont fire you for being a minute late once. However if your late regularely or even a few times that 1 minute is the only reason they need. They will win too. I think that is exactly what happened here.

There's plenty of labor unions that will let you get fired for being 1 minute late. In Iowa Henniges Automotive hires you and if you are late even 1 minute in your firat 90 days they let you go. On day 91 the union has your back. Days 1-90 you belong to Henniges not the union. Its in the contract. Not to be on the side of the corporation but the belief is if you cant make it to work on time for your first 3 months you wont be able to make it on time your whole career. First Impressions and all that. Dont blame the company. Shaq knew up front he couldn't be late in the first 90. He said so in the video. It sucks. I feel shitty for Shaq. But thats how most big factories work around here...
