This weekend was challenging for me. Friday night I got off work and was exhausted. I fell sleep driving home, so I decided to take a quick 20-minute nap before heading out for the weekend. I woke up 2 hours later! The sun was setting as I made my way into the Foothills State Forest. I have multiple locations marked in this forest for boondocking. With it being fishing opener in Minnesota I didn't think the State Forest would be so busy, every campsite I boondocking location was full. Every Camper had a trailer. I'm sure the forests will be full of ATV riders all weekend.
It was around mid-night on Friday when I decided to pull off into an old forest cutting. I would call that home for the night. I had ATVs driving past me until 2am. I knew this was not going to be the spot for me.
The following morning, I drove north into the Chippawa National Forest. I knew of a single campsite along the shores of a small lake that the DNR uses as a stock pond for trout. It's about 100 yards down a trail off the boat landing. I had just arrived and put out my slide. I wanted to get my camera footage uploaded to the computer before recording my next segment when a dog ran up to my camper. My door was open, Toby was growling and not happy! I poked my head outside and see a guy walking right past me. He never made eye contact or acknowledged me standing there and he didn't call for his dog as it was going potty on the fire ring. The guy casted his line from my campsite without a care in the world. You can see his dog outside my window. I knew this spot was not for me!
I checked a few more locations before finally settling on the spot you see in the video. It was quiet but my bad luck continued. For some reason my audio stopped recording. I lost a few hours of work, but I was able to show a few clips of me building the fire.
Sunday morning my GoPro developed a new problem. It was not allowing me to record anything longer than 60 seconds. It kept saying my SD Card was not writing fast enough. I carry multiple cards, none of them worked. I think the old GoPro is just getting tired.
We will see how the summer goes. Soon I will be posting truck camping videos of me trying to escape the heat, I already miss winter camping. I love the extreme temperatures and snowstorms. At least then I had the forests to myself.
