** So, as you probably know, KISS is my favorite band. I decided to do I was made for Loving you or I was made for Lovin' you (depending on how you want to spell it) because recently I went and saw my friend play with his KISS tribute band again. Also, it's quite fitting since Valentine's Day is this week. My Last cover of this song was quite a few years ago, and didn't have the tabs. So, I tabbed it out (with some details following this), put on my KISS End of the Road Tour (EOTR) shirt, my KISS Strap, and did my face paint like Gene. This has always been one of my favorite KISS songs to play. Probably because I had such a hard time learning it in the beginning. It always serves as a reminder of my progress. One challenge I had while learning it, was that I was used to playing it finger style, and I'm trying to play closer to what the original bassists do, so I used a pick, and the string crossings on the octaves are a bit tricky. Once I got those down, it was a lot of fun. It also took me a bit to get the slides down as well as I did. I hope you like it and enjoy!
Tab Notes:
The tuning is E standard. The original track is about halfway between E and Eb because, like a lot of songs back then, the tape wasn't played at the same speed it was recorded at. Most people tend to play it in E standard instead of Eb, but Eb is more characteristic of the band. The track I'm playing to has been adjusted to be E standard tuning.
Right before the chorus' I do 12 on the slide because it's the same note gene plays in the acoustic video I linked ( • 3-I Was Made For Lovin... ), but he slides on the studio version. I sometimes see 14 on the D used by other people,, but it doesn't look like Gene does that and I think it sounds too high. One thing I've noticed about his bass lines is that he's very economical on his playing. He keeps things near each other for the most part so he doesn't have to move his hands as much. I imagine it helps him focus when he plays and sings
A lot of people just ignore Gene's fills in a live show in order to make it easier to remember. I looked at a lot of live recordings and gene loves to add in a lot of fills that aren't in the original. I think he picks and chooses whenever he wants to do one, with only a couple key fills remembered.
This is the original studio version (Dynasty), not the Sonic Boom one. The instruments on sonic boom sound pretty good. I just hate whatever effects they put on the vocals. It sounds like maybe they autotuned it and stuck on some enhancing effects since that was real big around when sonic boom was released.
Thanks for watching! Enjoy :)
