There's nothing I love more than walking round someone elses garden/allotment - and having a wee nosy at how their plants are doing - even better when I can sit here and be 'taken round' whilst sipping on a cuppa! 😁

As per other comments here, I also love a garden tour. Learn so much from them when healthy plants are pointed out, pest issues, struggles, achievements. Weather, tips, etc. Helps the viewers to praise, learn and commiserate just as much as how-to’s.

@@simplifygardening I really did, Tony!!! I’m in awe of your compost setup; I know it was hard work getting it established for this year when you uploaded a video moving all that free stuff that was delivered. I couldn’t have done it. So sorry about the chickens. Everything looks beautiful and tidy. The soft fruit! Wow! The potato database will be incredibly useful for your viewers. There’s barely any useful information for gardeners re determinates, etc. My word, you must’ve put your heart and soul into it!!! You are such a star! Take good care. Hope putting up the soft fruit goes well.

Tony it looks so colourful, plenty to pick and enjoy. It was lovely to have this tour and to get motivated for our coming spring, had frost the last two mornings its been very cold this year. I am going to install a drip system but will have to be connected to our mains no way to collect water as garden is too small and on a hill. Take care and enjoy the fruits of your labour. Definitely do not give away anything you work hard to develop there are too many in this world will take it and monetise it for themselves. The potatoe data sounds amazing. Over here I struggle to id what some potatoes are i am sure there are many like me.

Hi Tony, glad your back, great work with a potato data base, that would be beneficial for many potato gardener’s and public speaking which you do so well. Thank you for the garden tourTony, garden still looking great, okay there’s a few things yet to do, we are all like that. Sorry about the chickens, damn foxes, hope you can redo the chicken coop to protect the new flock when you get them, I’m sure you’re missing the fresh eggs. Just to add hope the garlic was a good harvest for you. It’s been raining so much in Sydney Australia 🇦🇺 so no need to water the garden, mostly onion and garlic with a few odd things like potatoes and carrots, if I do need to water it just use the captured rain water, but it’s hard getting things done when it’s so wet.😁

Great to see you back Tony and l have to say your runner beans look pretty good, my beans on the other hand have all been eaten by snails the plants were covered in them l've never seen so many snails out of at least 50 plants l don't have a single one left, for the first time in 30 odd years l've given up on the beans (it's soul destroying looking at a long row of bare canes) l did try slug pellets but the crows eat every pellet. Next year l'm going to try netting for the first time.

Nice to have you back! I missed your channel videos. Definitely you have plants with needs well met! Do the cherry trees shade the onions? They like full sunlight. Nodding onion grows in the forest, I want to try that one. Perennial tree collards would help provide a wind break. Your rhubarb looks really big and needing to be divided. They would do well under the cherry tree as long as it's away from the tree roots. Have you tried skirret? It's another perennial and I'm really excited about this plant since it creates usually around 5-15 offsets per plant in the first year under ideal growing conditions and is pretty much disease free and bug resistant and delicious. Of course it's quite delicious to voles also. Your garden looks great. Your corn is a bit slow perhaps you should give them nitrogen, or plant beans which are nitrogen fixers... Great tour thanks your very good keeping the weeds away! I let the only 2 weeds grow: amaranth and pigweed since they are delicious choice edibles. Great boiled up, much better than spinach, kale or any other boiled green in my opinion. But that's just my opinion, thats just me. Your tastes may differ. :)

My fruit cage developed a hole - only found out when I saw a blackbird inside & no gooseberries or blackcurrants left.☹As for broad beans; I planted three 10m rows down a 1m wide bed, as both I & my brother always liked them. Sadly, he passed away unexpectedly in January & I'm going to be living on beans for months, as I harvested 45kg (including pods) from that one bed & so far, I've blanched & frozen 8kg of actual beans & there's probably another 5kg yet to do. I used slug nematodes 3 or 4 weeks ago & they don't seem to have been very effective (different supplier from last year).

Love your hard work and expertise, and sorry about your chicken loss. Chicken wire is made only to keep chickens in, not keep out predators. You need welded wire mesh for that, including under the fence line where they like to burrow and on the 'roof'. Lost count how many times we've found many cats on our racing pigeon coop roofs, and had several hawks try to smash into the wire mesh unsuccessfully. Our coops average 8 to 10 ft tall and we're not sure how cats get onto the roofs but a swipe with a broom gets them off fast.

Some leaves are yellowing a bit, mostly at the tip. We test dug one and it seemed a little small 😂 more of a bulb than cloves. No scales yet either, which we've been looking forward to tasting. Yeah its been 3 years and the thing is as good as the day I bought it. If I could afford it id buy another and replace the home built one at the back where the grapes are. Do you cover your kale to stop white fly and cabbage white butterflies
@simplifygardening
@simplifygardening 2 месяца назад
The cabbage white doesn’t bother much with it but I’ll do a couple sowing so a second sowing will be done around now. White fly is a pain tho but plants usually to big at that point

Dry, hot weather - what’s that? 😳 I’m so far behind with my veg and general gardening due to the amount of rain we have had in the NW and strong cold winds. Praying for a few weeks of dry weather - please, it’s been a very bad summer so far. Usually everything is in by the end May bank holiday (last frost date here) but we are about 4 weeks behind 🫣

oh i wish i could use my grass clippings but got the dreaded clover and creeping buttercups and daisies and ground ivy, pretty lawn but overtakes the grass, can i still use it oh and the smaller hogweed too as mulch?
@simplifygardening
@simplifygardening 2 месяца назад
you can still use it on compost and mulch, just watch for any sprouting and pull it as soon as you see it

What a beautiful (and huge) garden you have Tony. It must take a great deal of work to keep it going. Is it an allotment or is it at the back of the house?

@simplifygardening Thank you! We're struggling to keep up with everything. Was building a 'potato platform' with 30 litre pots, but had to leave our farm to help my brother following his emergency surgery before water system completed. Yield was poor, but I will be trying again during our southern hemisphere spring. All the best, thanks for your video production.
