Knocking and whistling noises! I didn't stay for long #italy #italia #cemetery Channel members see videos first! Please consider joining to keep me walking / @deadgoodwalks
The yellow slips are notifying the family that up keep payment is due. They give them some time to pay. If they don't the bodies are basically thrown away (or put in a mass disposal grave ) and the space is rented again. They do that in a lot of countries.
I couldn't get the old 70's movie Phantasm out of my head as you were walking those long, endless halls. I expected a flying silver orb to appear any second!
Its so beautiful to see the crypts the flowers and photos, then you come to whole sections without any flowers at al...they must be that old that theres no one left to visit then... thats really sad, to think youre all forgotten.
Fascinating as always Dan. I cant get my head around the size of these underground crypts. I suspect the noises you were hearing were ground movements and stone work shifting. I don't think I could stay down there for as long as you did.
How incredible! So all that open space above has miles and miles of crypts below. This really gave me the creeps. I thought the corridors would be wider and less intrusive. I think I wouldn't have made it through this one and I am usually game for anything. Yikes, Dan be careful!
See,that's something I, in the United States, had noooooo idea was a thing. We have perpetual care plates, here, but it didn't click until I was much older that one really only rents a grave in most cases.
And what with those older ones we saw like from 1907? Some of them felt into disrepair, for sure nobody cares and / or pays for place, yet there are no stickers on them. They bought extra premium version of the spot or what?
@@A4rt1nCemetery rules have changed over time, each city has different deadlines. However, the oldest tombs, before the 1980s, could have had the concession without expiry or with an extremely long expiry (99 years), in fact if you see in the video under the photo of a gentleman it says "perpetual" and in the video on Naples cemetery when you see the tombs in complete ruin, they have no expiry date, only that there are no heirs left to keep them in order.
@@angrymarie7755in fact it's something I'm wondering, but with 150/200 year old tombs do you keep them there? Are there no problems of degradation or simple need for space? As you can see in the case of Naples with its perpetual tombs it ends up becoming a field of ruins.
@@A4rt1n it could be that some are bought and some are rented as most do offer both options. But still idk just feel wrong the ones with those slips had passing times way way back around the 1960's just feels wrong to pester families so far down the line. Cant convince me they need to space when so many places in the first part where empty
Nope. Couldn't do it. That's waaay too uncomfortable down there. Even if there weren't bodies everywhere, it's too claustrophobic. Wouldn't want myself or a loved one in there either. But, I can 100% appreciate it, from the safety of my home! Thank you for going; so we don't have to!
Love love loving these vids Dan thanks ever so much! Francesco Tamagno (opera singer died 31 August 1905) was the inhabitant of that incredible mausoleum at 12:50. A super good write up on Wikipedia where you can even hear a recording of his voice from 1903 ... so haunting... fantastic voice too! en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Francesco_Tamagno
There is something sad about the hall with all those over due payment stickers on so many graves then seeing how long ago these people past away. I get many said 1960 and around and i get this is long long ago but still idk just makes me feel a bit sad. These people are resting there and after so long shouldnt be used to their existing family, how many generations past, to still need to pay a fee. I wish they had a system like they have here that would prevent such a thing from happening. There is quite some empty spots he walked past not like they in dire need of the space either... just doesnt feel right at all.
You need a gimbal Why don’t you ever research and tell us the history of these structures? When was it built? How many graves? What do they do with the ones the disinter?
Too claustrophobic for me. So, your family has to pay forever? Wonder how much it costs. This place has to smell bad. Cannot be healthy for a living person. Thank you for going there so I do not have too!! ☠💀
You made me laugh Dan when you said nobody’s smiling in their photos. Would you be if you knew they were going to put you down there?! As someone else commented, trees and sky please
