I was just gonna say the same thing!😄Actually though I would prefer an interesting special rule related to combat even if it meant he had to stay fight 5.
I used to play this game in the late 2000s. Before war of the ring came out. Seeing Burdhur of all characters get a new model makes me want to get back into the game. If a random throwaway OC is getting attention when it makes sense that just says to me the designers keeping this game alive are invested in it as a whole.
It also surprised me because the old metal model hobestly still looks really good, but the new one is fantastic. Wish coteaz and 40k models got the same treatment when redone.
@@arvatrontheiv2220 if I had to guess it’d be 40K is on a faster track to get things out but the ME team are allowed to take their time because it’s just not as popular.
I already said it on the noobs channel, but I am hoping that they rework the fight values as well as either tone down all the special rules for the hobbit minis or else buff up the ones for the OG models. Otherwise I think the rules are very good in their current iteration. Lastly with GW moving away from forgeworld resin with the rest of their games I hope to see an update of some of their older FW kits in the new edition.
I've always wanted to play the Rise of the Witch-King supplement since it came out back when, but never got the chance. This will be good; as long as we don't get Rings of Power we're golden.
@@renwulf1695 I can't imagine there being any business case for Rings of Power miniatures. The reception by audiences has been overwhelmingly unpopular and if they were going to make it happen they would have done it on launch when the hype was there.
One must be careful when the Great Eye of GW is upon you. It is usually for the worst. MESBG has succeeded mostly due to lack of GW interference for the most part.
Games Workshop literally made MESBG. Without the Great Eye of Games Workshop it would not exist. They have constantly interfered with the game by manufacturing millions of miniatures for it and distributing them all around the world.
Conquest of Champions seasons 4. The Ultimate Champion. Everyone's favorite armies from the first 3 seasons thrown together to find the ultimate Champion of this version of MESBG before going on to the new installment. 1 battle a week following your newly proposed group layout. 11 weeks worth of videos means you may complete before or around the time of the new game release.
Definitely share your optimism about the new edition, I still have a 20 year old rulebook that's like 90% up-to-date, I can't really see them shake up the game to such a degree that the old scenario's are completely invalid. Maybe the profiles will be tweaked but they should all be in the two supplementary books. Also those new models are absolutely gorgeous and the BfME II player in me is crying tears of joy.
For the past years people have been asking for so many minor changes and tweaks that have been done via Errata/FAQs. Like you said Jacob, there's an unnoticed accumulation of changes since the current version came out and that realization, along with still more changes being voiced by the players, merits a new edition. I think of it as the rules writers asking themselves, "If we could go back and re-write these rules and unit/army profiles with what we know now and what we've seen and heard from the past 6 years, how would we have improved upon this current version." I feel this new version will be familiar to all the current players and adding in positive change to the game we've all been asking for in small ways. Can't wait! Jacob, as far as your plans go, maybe you can do a Rules Writer Series where you showcase a hero/unit/army in a small scenario and then talk about how you'd improve upon it in the new edition if you could.
Curse is cool and definitely under utilized. I reckon he might also have an aura that means enemy heroes have to re-roll successful fate rolls if they are to close to the Shadow
In regards to your original release schedule, re the new edition coming out. As long as you preface at the start of the videos, even in just text on the screen stating this was filmed prior would be 100% fine. I see it all the time with killteam and warhammer 40k bat reps due to constant updates, having to do it once in 6 years sits pretty well with me
I have decided that Conquest Champions Season 4 will be delayed until the new edition comes out. It will be the first big showcase of the edition on the channel
Man I have too many Codices for 40K to buy to be getting another MESBG rulebook. Hopefully the rules don't change too much. Guessing there will be a War of the Rohirrim launch box with the film's release around Christmas? Getting ready for a 3000 point siege of Minas Tirith when this news dropped!!
I don't think the changes will be huge and they have had a 6 year gap between the past few editions which I am totally fine with when it comes to the books. I wouldn't want a new edition any more often than that
The only news I want to hear is that GW are lowering their prices. I love the games, love the models but I haven't purchased a GW mini in years...third party all the way....a fraction of the price and often more dynamic minis.
Games Workshop will have bundles that come at a huge discount such as Battle Hosts and the Starter set however will not be lowering their prices across the board.
Thanks for the comment, the new edition will change some of the core rules but my guess is that they will be minor changes to things such as Heroic Challenge, brutal power attacks, and special strikes
My guess is that the likelihood of it happening is very low. The plastic Uruks that exist already represent the Uruks that we see in the movies perfectly. A new kit would be almost identical just a bit crisper
You sound nervous man! Good video and im excited to see these changes, even though I play mostly on tabletop sim I have a few models irl and these looks sick. The werewolves look awesome!
Some great insights from you, and I think this is good news, it shows GW is invested in the game. Those models look great aswell. 1 rule I would like changed is Line of sight for shooting to be if it crosses a models base rather than true line of sight.
Thanks for the comment. I think it's a great sign about GW committing fully to all the Warner Bros content. I'm a massive fan of True line of Sight. I find it the most immersive and easy system for line of sight
I fully expect a full range refresh any day now, the scale of new models has been way off from the normal plastic infantry for years now and with the phase out of first born space marines and huge sales of primaris I think GW is looking for another big wave of sales via army replacements.
A range replacement would be awesome. I think its very unlikely that we will see new plastics for a lot of the common troops but if it happens that will be great
I think you may have to just hold off on champions til the new year - War of the Rohirrim is coming out in december, and surely they want to produce any new models at the same time
Pretty excited. SUper excited for new Buhdur he has been a great ally for my Moria and cant wait for the hill trolls. Really hope Blackshields get new models and decent rules love em and take them but hard to justify them lol
Every profile getting a rewrite means they're all getting new points. That's why we haven't had the points values for any of the new spoiled models. If they told us the hero's were 30 or 300 points we'd realise they changed the point system. I'm convinced that's how they plan to rebalance things.
I think this would be really interesting, I actually really like this idea. At the moment there is a lot of compression of the cost of profiles between 5 and 10 points. If everything got doubled it could add more differentiation. For example a Goblin Town goblin could be 8 points, a moria goblin with spear could be 9 and an Elf with spear and shield could be 20
I was just literally thinking about MESBG today (before i was aware of the article), i didn't really play it as a youngster, despite loving the movies (Better than Star Wars) and literally being ~12 when they came out but i remember it actually felt like a new player friendly wargame not a boardgame/CCG like AoS/arguably 40k. So i was considering maybe picking up a little 'intro game' worth of minis and the rules to maybe play with my Nephew when he's a bit older. So this is actually great news for me.
Hopefully season 4 can happen. It'll likely take months for the new edition to actually drop? In the meantime season 4 could be a finale for this edition in a way.
It's hard not to be a little apprehensive when it's a game we know and love so much but I can't see them doing a drastic overhaul for a game that isn't their prime focus and is frankly near perfect as is. I'm optimistic for the most part and anything that might encourage new players to come to middle earth is always a good thing.
I totally agree with you here. I don't think the changes will be massive and over the past few days i have thought of plenty of areas of possible improvement
Ironically just as my local group was thinking of getting started with the game. Curious as to what it will look like. Side note where did you get your lights?
This is perfect timing. If you just wait for it to drop you can all learn in the new edition! The lights are Newer multi colour ones. I'm not exactly sure what model but the cost roughly $200Aud each. They have been great and I would recommend them.
I'd love for them to expand on the heroic resources more. having most heroes only have 3/3/3 max doesn't make sense. Having Boromir with 6 might but Elendil, Gil-Galand, Glorfindal etc only 3 Might doesn't sit well. Also with Fate, I'd love it if your Leader's Fate can be spent to reroll priority rolls (maybe have it cost a Fate and a Will or something).
Considering that bannermer has F7 and so beats Aragon and elves there are changes that are needed. I think points wise also some heroes need to be updated. Faramir is weak base nothing good really unless your doing something like his legion
Boromir's 6 might is what makes him as a character unique. I do love the idea of having more uses for fate and will. Its super often that neither side has magic so will goes unused all game
The thing I’m nervous about (as someone who’s only just started getting into the game) is that they’re going to start “modernizing” the models and releasing things in newer plastic kits the second I just bought a full army of the older metal models. Just worried about starting my first army and having it get immediately outdated by a modernized release. This wouldn’t be such an issue but I mean man GW is not inexpensive
Thanks for the comment, I wouldn't worry about this at all! I deliberately collect armies made of the older metal models because in my opinion they will always be the best models. My current project is a fully metal Uruk Hai scout force.
If the new edition is sh*t im just staying with the old one or a fan errata will be the new unofficial official. So im not scared at all ^^ The models look sick!
Rather nervous with them revising all the main books… of their best rules set. That’s a big wallet dip. In my group we aren’t gonna switch immediately. Only thing that needs change is some tweaks, clarifications, and the toughness strength table usage(gets old checking that chart)
100% on the charts lol. One of the best changes in 40k was simplifying the wound system. Str= toughness 4s, str>t 3s str 2x or more t 2s. Opposite if T is higher than str going 5's then 6's respectively. Simple and give approximately similar results
Once you get your head around it you never need to check the charts, If Strength and defense are equal its 4's, if defense is 1 or two higher its 5's, 3 or 4 higher its 6's. After that its a 4+, 5+, 6+ for each successive additional defense. Now that I have written that it sounds lite it could be simpler but this is one that I am a big fan of
I never got into this game because it was never clear to me how many factions there were, I never had clearly in mind the "full roster" of available armies.
There are 43 factions in the game. They are all listed in the back of the Army books a full list is: EVIL Angmar Dark Denizens of Mirkwood Goblin-town Sharkey's Rogues Azog's Hunters Dark Powers of Dol Guldur lsengard The Trolls Azog's Legion Desolator of the North Mordor Variags of Khand Barad-dur The Easterlings Moria Corsairs ofUmbar Far Harad The Serpent Horde GOOD Army of Lake-town Army ofThror Arnor The Dead of Dunharrow Erebor Reclaimed Fangorn The Fellowship The Fiefdoms Garrison of Dale Halls ofThranduil The Misty Mountains Numenor Radagast's Alliance The Iron Hills The Rangers The Kingdom of Khazad-dum Rivendell Lothlorien Minas Tirith Rohan The Shire Survivors of Lake-town Thorin's Company The White Council Wildmen of Druadan
I think the odds of them doing a new fellowship is pretty low. The currently available plastic fellowship kit is terrible but each member of the fellowship has several different sculpts, most of which are great
I am very nervous for big changes, specially in army building. I am one of the people who prefers metal over plastic, and not looking forward to be paying Ebay prices (again) to change my armies. That said, I go into it with an open mind, like I did with Flames of War. Still prefer v3 over v4, but each version has something to offer. I am very excited about the new Angmar releases. 🤗
I totally understand being nervous. The game is in such a good place that change can be concerning but I am super optimistic about the direction it will go. I am a huge fan of metal models but they can be hard to get. On my painting desk at the moment is a full metal Uruk Hai scout army
I never have played lotr tabletop game from GW, but im looking forward for more info about it. I mean, Im focused into Warhammer 40k, but Im interested about lotr if they follow the books and the original triology.
"And so begins the 40Kfying of Middle Earth. The Dark Lord made in secret a decision to release a new book two years after the last one. More would come...and 50$ for two minis was just the beginning"
Really hope this make's it a bit more popular on the east coast. I've always wanted to get into MESBG but I never see it in any of the game stores in Charlotte. I might try to pick up some intro games on tabletop simulator if your community or others like to play on there.
I see the need for new armies books, to draw together all the new stuff from the various campaign books. I just hope that the changes to the system are minimal. I'd like for spearmen to contribute to the fight value of a fight. There are a few individuals who could be tweaked. Why does Helm have a great sword in the rules, but not on the model? Surely Warg riders should have war spears, rather than throwing spears. They never throw their spears in the movies and seem to use them couched, like lances. Those are the sort of little changes I'd like addressed. I don't want a huge reimagining of GW's most balanced rule system.
Having an Armies of LotR and Hobbit book with all the new profiles and the Legendary Legions in one place would be great. I am sure there will be lots of minor tweaks. Side note spearmen do contribute their fight value
@@ConquestCreations oops. I think my group had been messing that up, regarding the spearmen as not being in the fight, for the purpose of fight value. I think this is something that changed at some point in the rules from earlier versions. Glad to know I was getting it wrong.
I wonder if they'll remove even MORE flexibility in list building and maybe make things more mandatory so you can definitely never convert any minis... like all their other games...
I think that the alliance system will definitely be changing. I always prefer thematic armies so I don't think this would be a problem. Not sure what you mean about conversions, there always has and will be opportunity to convert models in all of their games. Just think of Heresy or Necromunda
@@ConquestCreations I preferred how it used to be in the Green/Red/Blue books. Where you could slap goblins with your orcs and add some haradrim without consultation of a graph. The problem is GW FORCES you to only play as the films allow. They make sure you can't use imagination to make a force unless you lose bonuses (which for some are useless anyway) And by conversions guaranteed they'll force you to take your troops as the miniatures dictate. So I could bet money they'll force warriors of minas tirith to take shields to push using official minis to push their sales. Similar to 40k where you build your army from boxes not from your will and freedom. They'd hate my Gondor army is from Perry Miniatures Agincourt range
I have decided to wait. Becuase it is going to be 11 games long the edition change would happen halfway through. I reckon as soon as we get our hands on the new edition I'll start filming it.
Continue with Season 4 and just add a disclaimer, I suspect it will be minor tweaks to the games and given the cinematic quality and discussion on overall tactics - I dont think it would ruin your planned content. just my thoughts.
I have decided that I will wait for the new edition for Conquest Champions Season 4 which should give me several months to figure out the studio. In the mean time I'll have quest of the ring bearer and some other content
I was going to buy the battle for Osgiliath box, but with this News I don’t know if i have to wait to buy the newest material, i’ll be Glad if someone Can give me an advice
Unless you are very interested in the miniatures in the Battle for Osgiliath I would wait for the new starter kit. The miniatures will always be relevant but the rule book wont be
I think a solid change that would count as "reworking every profile" would simply be to remove the "/" in fight value, and create a ranged accuracy stat. Whenever I teach the game, new players have such a hard time deciphering which fight number to use (its obvious, but also not).
Not sure what this comment means but the game has been the same at its core since it was first released over 20 years ago so I am fully confident that it will be true to its origins
@@ConquestCreations look at your click bait videos listings, you have as Middle earth strategy game battles....just so tired of so many bell ends not reviewing their work before posting,,,,at least you got a partial view out of it before I hung myself from boredom.
@@mikesilk4933 not really sure what you means I would recommend reviewing your comment. As far as clickbait goes the Thumbnail is "Huge GW News" which is true, the video then backs up that by talking about the news. Does not fall into the category of clickbait in the slightest. All good if this content isn't for you, our regular battle reports are still coming at their normal pace and all this is just extra
@@mikesilk4933 The one with "Bad News" Is talking about how I am loosing my studio space due to a new landlord. In this video I talk about how I am unsure of how to progress the future of the channel. I think that the thumbnail is representative of the content in that case. It also addresses how due to this the battle report schedule will be slowed down so that we are able to build a stock pile of videos to give us a buffer window to figure out our studio situation. The other two also have thumbnails and titles directly related to the content of the video
Constant new editions are why I stopped playing Warhammer. I can't afford to spend tons of money on new books all the time. I finally decided to upgrade to the current version from the 2003 edition (which I own all of the books from) because there were a lot of genuine improvements. I got several friends interested in the game. They all bought rule books and now this happened... It might not be really bad but we're pretty gun-shy after expensive reboots of other games we've played in the past. I have no issues with new stuff coming out, I just hate that GW expects me to pay a book tax to keep playing the game even if I've finally managed to collect an army.
@@Corppi22 They don't give the PDFs away for free (at least not legally). It's still a book tax even if it's 50% off. (And if you don't already have a portable device that is viable for reading pdfs, it's a lot more expensive than a book.)
@@dashsocur You know, its the people who keep buying into GWs paywalled rules that are the reason they dont just release free online pdfs like every other company. Be the change you wanna be and stop doing it. People share the rules online for a reason. The billion dollar company will be fine.
This is going to be a giant money-grab from GW. Mark my words: The new models will be the BEST models for the first couple of months, until GW has sold enough. Then nerfed to bottom tier - Just like GW has raped all their 40K fans for years. There was absolutely no reason to change anything in MESBG - any changes could have been adrressed with a simple errata.
Words marked. Games Workshop has been consistently releasing stuff with new models for the whole existence of the game, I am not sure why they would change their approach for this release specifically. Some of their released have gone straight to top tier such as the Beornings before being slightly nerfed to still being in top tier, some released have gone straight to the bottom like the Sharkeys Rouges characters, while most of them have been solidly balanced such as the new Mordor characters
I do also suppose the changes GW will introduce to the new edition will NOT disturb the game balance. Like why they should modify something that was almost perfect? I'd really hope though they could use some right reasoning and fix matters that require fixing like, e.g removing move penalty to any archers of elvish troops (well, they are elves or not? and still hit on 3+ like ANY kind of rangers troops, outriders or hobbits... really? The BEST archers in the world are not that best aren't they?) or adding extra range to elevated shooting troops (both siege engines, range units or monsters that can shoot) because atm such elevated positions have NO actual positive impact on shooting other than extra ITW test (but only if archers shoots from behind terrain piece).
