The thing is Tina our generation have been brought up to be trustworthy, there was no such word as scam and a man’s word was his bond. It’s an awful sign of the times, I hope someone finishes your drive off for you, last thing you want is trip hazards with loose flags. Thanks for telling us all this as it makes you more aware . Xx
Think there has always been dodgy trades people around but most I find are very trustworthy and take pride in their work. Doing jobs for cash has always been fraught with issues. Best wishes to everyone.
Oh no Tina that’s awful! The scammers are everywhere! I was contacted once by phone to say I’d won a mobile phone 🤔 I keep saying I didn’t want a phone because I’d already got one, he was pushing this phone as it was “free “ Then I eventually said ok , then he said just give me your bank account details “to make sure it’s you “ RED Flag 🚩 When I said I wouldn’t give my bank details for a free phone he started to get nasty! I reported the incident ! Stay Vigilant Everyone! 😘🤗😸
The fact you got four messages in quick succession suggests it was the same person just trying their luck over again in case you gave in and sent your details. Horrible people. I’ve been scammed in the past and it left me very cautious and distrustful which isn’t nice. I’m sorry you had these problems and I hope your driveway gets finished. Hugs xx
We have to be so careful these days Tina, as there are some nasty people out there. The builder should be named and shamed! Disgraceful workmanship. The US sizing is confusing, I had the same happen to me with a jumpsuit, a US 12 is actually a UK 16... fortunately it was a genuine mistake by the seller and I got a refund. Thanks again for warning us all to be careful out there! 👍
Oh Tina how cruel some folk are. I’m sorry you had to go through all of these scammers. I would definitely be flagging up the builder man with trading standards, he will just keep doing this to other people sadly. He’s a rotter and should be stopped. It’s cruel and unfair to good honest neighbourhoods. Get him reported it’s just a phone call or email. Lessons learned they say so you will be more wary in the future. So so sad we have to be like that and lose the ‘trust factor’ but it happened and it will now make you aware never to hand payment over till the jobs complete and you are happy with it. These people play mind games and pile you with sob stories about paying the ‘gang’ their wages. Yes when they have finished. Bless you sending you lots of hugs this morning xx😘
Good morning Tina, I'm sorry to hear about your scam and builder con, can you not take the chspto small claims court?, I think some of these people are relying on us women being afraid if them please report him trading standards, x
You are so right to not give out your bank details. So many crooks out there. Shame about the shoes. We have to be so aware these days, it’s mind boggling. Puts me off buying anything.
Name and shame him Tina ! Although the way things are at the moment he would probably sue you for deformation ! Honestly there is no justice for decent human beings 😩
Hi Tina. So sorry to hear you’ve been scammed by your workman that’s terrible you should really name & shame him, these people shouldn’t be allowed to carry on. So glad you were aware on Facebook marketplace it’s happened to me but luckily like you I didn’t accept PayPal or bank transfer and I check the persons profile on facebook too. Sorry about the shoes too I hope you can resell them on vinted and hope you get your dining furniture sold too. I’ve been scammed by a tax refund company and the annoying thing is they claimed a tax refund for me that I knew nothing about and HMRC sent the cheque for my tax refund to this company and I’ve not had a penny of it yet I’ve emailed the company and contacted morning live and still not got it. I trust no one now and don’t give details to anyone. I’m so glad you didn’t fall for the Facebook scam. Love your videos. Have a great week 💕💕
Hi Tina I was selling a suite of furniture last week and exactly the same thing happened to me ,this chap said he wanted it for his daughter but she hadn’t got a bank account so he wanted to pay using pay pal i said it was cash on collection he sent a message back insisting that I send him my bank details and he would transfer the money that way. Some people would be vulnerable and do as they ask.i told my son what had happened and he reported it to fb .
Morning Tina. Oh dear, so bad to listen to your recent experiences . Makes you lose faith in any kind of interactions with people in buying/ selling situations , and having domestic work done. Guess we all enter into these things with a mindset that others are straight up and honest , as we are . Sadly a lot are the opposite to that . x Janette
So sorry to hear that tina and thank you for raising awareness about it. There are some horrible people about and we have to be so guarded. my friend has just been scammed out of a lot of money, it was the oldest trick in the book, someone knocking on the door saying he had a loose roof tile. Next minute they are up ladders messing about with the roof. They came down showing him dirt in a bucket and a tall tale to put the fear of god in him..a couple of hours later and 6500 paid, off they went. Ive never heard of a builder having a heavy with them but apparently this lot did. I said to him, why didnt you phone me or speak to a neighbour, and i am so annoyed with him about this esp as he has buried his head now in the sand. I have told him that he is probably now a mark and they will come back for rich pickings again in the future...and it will probably repeat, as its happened twice now.😢😢😢😢. Val x
I am sorry you've had all this hassle, Tina. Thank you for letting us know though, it's always good to be reminded to be careful, it's so easy to be fooled. Hope you get your drive fixed soon x
God morning Tina, how sad to hear your news on scams. You are right in that we do usually take the advice of friends/ neighbours etc when looking for trades people but I will only partly fund if a job is lasting some time and never pay in full until the job is complete. The Facebook scammers story is awful, I cannot stand the thought of these rogues who try to scam honest hardworking people to “Rob them of their bank finances etc’. Great that you realised and firmly put a stop to it. I won’t go on Marketplace and prefer gumtree etc. Stay alert Tina but note there are good people out there who are wanting to make an honest purchase - sure you will get a sale on your table. Kind regards and a hug 🤗 June 🤗x
sorry to hear this Tina but I hear so many similar stories regarding Market Place, good that you realised they were not genuine buyers, hope you get a buyer for the table soon. on a lighter note I loved your jumper x
Sorry to hear about your bad experiences hope you named and shamed the workman, well done for not getting caught out with the Facebook marketplace scam its despicable how many people want to con you out of things many thanks for the warning❤️👍🏻
Oh Tina, i really feel for you. Unfortunately its getting to the stage where its difficult to know who to trust. We've had problems with traders suddenly ignoring calls too, it's horrible. Thanks for the warnings xx❤
So sorry Tina you’ve had those scams thank you for warning us. I’d like to be able to sell things on but it is the scammers that make it so difficult for everyone. I hope you can get the front drive flags sorted soon. What a game you were more than fair with the builder. I don’t know how they can live with themselves xx
Sign of the times awful how many scams go on these days Tina. Beautiful shoes apart from mark.thanx for sharing it's so easy for some scammers how they can do it I don't know take care Sue
Oh Tina what a week you have had. Sorry to hear about it. Thank you for letting us know and we can all be aware too. When you are trusting people you don’t expect people to behave in that way. Never mind Tina it’s a good lesson learned. You will be fully aware the next time. Take care and thank you for helping everyone out there to be aware also.
So sorry Tina about nearly being scamed ,we all have to be careful these days. Sometimes it can be the same family members trying it on. At least you didnt give out your details .Take care ❤️
Oh Tina what an awful thing to happen to you. I hope you can get your flagstones sorted, I had similar happen to me years ago so I know how you must feel, we are too trustworthy Tina, that’s our problem. Thank you for the advice on facebook market, it lets everyone aware of what to look out for and also to make sure it is cash payment only, sending hugs ❤xx
Here are the rules majority of Canadians follow to keep safe. #1. If you don't recognize the telephone number.. don't pick up the phone. You can listen to the message if they leave one. #2. We never pick up a phone when it says Private Caller. You can check to see if there is a message. #3. Discussing banking information..personal information is NOT DONE EVER. Go in person to your bank to discuss matters. #4. If someone is at the door make sure you have your telephone in your hand just in case you need help. #5. Tie a scarf or similar item to the antenna of your car if you are in a large parking lot to identify it in case you can't find it. Now you can. Hope these help.
Hi Tina, so sorry you have had to put up with the builder and hopefully your neighbour will come good and finish it for you. You have to be so careful these days. Take care 🙂
Hi Tina, sorry to hear about your horrible experiences with scammers. I think we expect other people to be as honest and good intentioned as we are. Sadly there are many who are not. You are a lovely lady and still smiling after the awful experience. Thanks for your warning to us all x👍
Tina if you give your account and sort code money can be transferred in, but they cannot take anything from you. It’s sad but people don’t use cash much now.
I’ve not been scammed but come very close with similar story to yours on the FB market place. When selling something they offered to send a courier with the money etc… I only accept cash on collection also and if they don’t like that they don’t have to buy. One offered to pay via PayPal because he didn’t have a bank account …. But surely you need a bank account to use PayPal ? I hope you safely sell your dining table Tina x
So sorry to hear about all this happening to you the builder needs reporting if he has a website I bet your neighbour is upset as well if he recommend him. I don't shop on F/B . I think with Vinted you can return things . Thank you for sharing Tina take care 🌹🐈Xxxx
Thanks, Tina. That's shocking, but thank goodness you were on your guard. It happened to my daughter. They kept making excuses about not delivering the goods, van broken down etc. It was a few hundred pounds. It made us so angry. And she still hasn't received the goods 2 months on 😢 xx
Times are changing Tina. There was a time in our village when you could leave the door unlocked and windows open when we just pop up the road with the dog.But not any more..feeling so sorry for you Tina x
Tina..it very nearly happened to me last wkend..my friends Facebook market place.. these people mytherd us for 7hrs..wanting PayPal payment..didn't no at the time it was fake PayPal accounts they set up...got intouch with real PayPal..whom said it wasn't them..I dnt do Facebook...&please be aware everyone ..thanks for telling your story Tina.. hope we can help others 🙏 Absolutely disgusting people they are.😡🤬
Face book market place is notorious for scammers. I only do cash and self pickup. One guy keep asking me questions to see if I was genuine asking g me to return a code.i told him I’m selling a pair of easy chair not state secrets. Then there’s the time waster who say they are com in and don’t show up. Those who ask you young hold it for them. I even had one guy ask me to model the shoes in a certain way and he would pay double. All kinds of crazy people out there.
Hi Tina, we live in Lancashire. We had a building Company from Wigan 2 years ago, remove our Conservatory roof and had a solid roof put on. On the second day they asked for the full amount before the job was complete. We paid them and they never came back. After lots and lots of phone calls we never got any replies, no returned messages. Had to have it all done again my a builder who was through some friends. Never pay until you are completely satisfied with the work. We learned our lesson.x
How awful. My daughter got scammed on a supposed Pandora outlet site. It didn’t exist really. She did get her money back eventually from the credit card company
Morning Tina,so sorry to hear about the scammers,i was nearly scammed last week i got a phone call telling me i had won a voucher for Tesco i do shop there so thought it was for real the person on the end of the phone had my name and date of birth so i did think it was real he asked for my bank details and i said i dont give it out on the phone then he told me which bank i do my banking and wear i opened my account i still did not tell him at this point he got a bit shirty with me and said how much more do i have to tell you to make you see its genuine not been awful but i put the phone down on him and blocked the number it made me feel very uncomfortable i really dont no how they get so much information on people ill never give my bank account details out to any one over the phone as i was growing up i always heard the saying you dont get any thing for nothing all you get in this world is what you work for and im going to stick to that saying, but it as made me nervous about phone calls ❤❤😊x
We were scammed, its over 20 years ago. On our way to New Zealand, stop over in Malaysia. It wasn't until we arrived back home a month later & we received a call from bank to say over £2,000 had been taken from our account. The hotel where we stopped over had duplicated our cards They had spent the money on various things, Malaysian grand prix, karaoke equipment etc. Shocked at the time, the bank did reimburse us.😊
I have had the same scam on Facebook Marketplace but lucky enough we got wise to it and didn’t go through with it. Never pay all the money up front , only when the jobs finished.
Oh Tina, Things come in 3's so that should be the end of it. Wouldn't it be funny if you went to the address in Poulton and asked for Olivia!!! Please never give cash upfront to any workmen, always agree a price and give a deposit but pay in stages as the work progresses and you are happy with the work. My friend got scammed by builders several years ago, she went to trading standards but got nowhere he just shut down the company and started again, waste of time and money perusing the money. Could Hayley wear the shoes they are lovely, US sizes are different so probably a genuine mistake. I only buy from ebay for this very reason, they have protections in place, I've been buying on there for 15 years. Still good you didn't give out your bank details👍
You have to be so careful these days & have your wits about you Tina ..awful of that builder not to complete his job for you ..I'd name & shame no problem ..you've give him fair chance ..no wonder your neighbour feels bad though ..never sold on Marketplace but have bought a couple of things ..honestly though good job you stuck to cash only ...I hope you sold it ok in the end after all that hassle...shame about the shoes they are lovely ..I usually just relist if something isn't just right ...but frustrating all the same ..xx
Oh Tina you’re way to trusting.Personally I would never ever part with cash before the jobs finished even if the builder was recommended by a neighbour and also I know a lot of people that have almost fallen for a scam on marketplace,I can’t understand why anyone would give a total stranger personal bank details so we’ll done for holding out. I know we all like a bargain but it’s not worth risking it in this current scamming crisis.❤
Unfortunately It’s a mine field these trying to fine good workmen. So many con men out there. You can only hope he’ll get his comeuppance soon Tina . If people want cash off us these days we say yes but we’ll only pay half until the job is done completely to are satisfaction if they are not happy to do that we’d look for somebody else. X
I was scammed on Facebook it was Bon Marche sale or so it said but it wasn’t and also a competition Nisa so my advice is DO NOT enter ANYTHING on FACEBOOK
Hi Tina, what a world we,re living in , all these scammers no conscience at all, it really spoils it for genuine trades people and sellers and buyers on these sites, a few weeks ago I went on fb market place to buy a ps4 for my grandson and the seller said he wanted to meet up somewhere, ,he said I couldn't go to his to collect and he wouldn't come to me , well I,d already heard about this scam when you meet up there's sometimes 2 cars and when u hand over your money and take the item someone in the other car jumps out and grabs the item back off you something like that, anyway I wasn't falling for it and blocked him , sorry you had to go through this x
Never give anyone money upfront. I would report that chris to trading standards Tina. £600 is a lot of money, it wasn't just a few pounds. I wouldn't let that lye im afraid. He probably do's this to a lot of people. What a lowlife. Do people think we are thick, when they ask for our bank details. Be careful Tina. CASH ONLY. ❤
We have had that happen to us a couple of times on marketplace, they target older people I think. We have sold quite a few things ok though. Just be careful.
Market place can be great too. Best wishes with your future endeavours. Golden rule to make part payments to anyone doing work for you. Alarm bells should go off when trades people want you to buy the materials. Cheers.
Tina…you have had a bad week but put it behind you now, which I am sure you will! So difficult when you are on your own and too many scumbags willing to take advantage. I don’t sell or buy second hand unless I advertise on a local sales site and then cash only payable on collection. My partner is like my pet Rottweiler when people come to the house so I am lucky! Not a day goes by though without some report of someone swindled out of their savings. My husband used to say….”remember, there is no such thing as a free lunch”. The Welsh Guru I called him! Xx Liz
Please report it to the police and trading standards. Sorry you have gone through this. Also don't let anyone come to your home for an item whilst you are on your own.
I tried to sell a rug a while ago through Buy and Sell and had the very same experience ! The add was barely up a second when I got the exact same “ buyers “ luckily like you I ignored them
Yes I think they say they have sent you an overpayment or something. I know most people are honest and I don’t want to make people suspicious only careful.
I had someone like that who said they were at work and they would send a courier ,I just said no you have to come and buy them in person ,I never heard anymore from them .
Sorry for the delay. It’s actually a blush it’s a charlotte tilbury cheek to chic pillow talk blush. It is really nice. I have attached a link amzn.to/3xkqsht
