With a mountain bike chainset, you'd never fear another climb! The biggest fear would be falling over at 6kph! Try it. Heavy riders glide downhill pretty well without huge gears. A small cassette can give you flatland speed with good chainlines under 35kph. The gearing on production bikes is almost always way too high for an average cyclist.

Mr Lee, if you listen to Chris Horner, a lot of times you will hear him mention “false flats”, that’s what he talking about. When the kick in the climb reduces, it feels like a flat but you are still climbing.
@miivii
@miivii 6 месяцев назад
On Mt. Zoncolan (from Ovaro), you get this feeling when you come from 6 km/16 % average (max 22) to 10 %. False flat. Funny thing is that a lot of people talks about but it is quite hardcto believe until you experience it.

It looks like you have fun riding up the mountains. I know this feeling when you look up to such mountains and instead of being afraid you know that you can do it and that it will be fun. 40 years ago, after two bicycle vacations in the Netherlands and Denmark, I concluded that riding mountain roads is much more fun than riding flat areas. My fist real mountain road was the Schauinsland close to Freiburg (770m of climb) and after this I new I had to go into the Alps and see the big ones. Can be addictive but it's one of the best addictions you can have.

The guys moving downhill at whatever high rate of speed would really have to be on guard against those meandering apes! But that's still better than them coming after you with carbines and nets! With the wide angle lens and all it's hard to tell, but what kind of speeds were you hitting on the way down?
@jollygoodvelo
@jollygoodvelo 6 месяцев назад
I was descending at around 60km/ h
@derekjolly3680
@derekjolly3680 6 месяцев назад
@@jollygoodvelo So about 37 MPH then. I don't normally clock myself for speed not having (or wanting) the gadgets excepting on the e-bike. But with experience I tend to estimate close enough. There's really only one hill I've hit with speeds like that, (one other for a few MPH less speed) but it's a dead end and I would not want to go at it with my road bike's pad brakes. Just with the two bikes with disk brakes. I've only done it a couple of times and it's seemed semi-suicidal every time. Anyway, I was hitting 39 there with no power on the coast.
@derekjolly3680
@derekjolly3680 6 месяцев назад
The main reason which I see for riding that area in my town is for the climbs back out as part of the overall ride, and I can do that from the other hill without the dead end and the insanely fast downhill.
