Fashionphile is a rip off!! My friend who has been one of their long term customers just told me that she is about to lose over $14,000.00 because Fashionphile changed their return policy without giving their previous customers any warning!!! They just changed their return policy February 15, 2023 without giving any notice to their previous customers. My friend only found out about their new return policy when attempted to make a return within the 30 days window, on some Hermes items that weren't the right size and realized the return option wasn't available. Two supervisors have been refusing to do a full refund and only giving the option of their "Refresh program" which is an instant loss of at least $4000. Would love to see a part 2 as well :) Hopefully find other companies that are not deceiving like Fashionphile.

I worked for TRR for a year before I went to law school, and all of the allegations in the investor lawsuits are true. Four years ago, they had actual experts authenticating Chanel, Hermes, and Louis Vuitton. They also scrutinized some streetwear brands that were frequently counterfeited. The company had jewelry and watch experts that would look at all of those pieces. All the other brands were sent directly to the warehouse, where warehouse workers with zero expertise would "authenticate" the items using PDFs with images of previously consigned items. Home and art, they had a few people who were not qualified for authenticating and pricing items. I am not a disgruntled employee; I loved the job though management has changed a lot. That's just the truth; if you're buying from them, BEWARE. I can only imagine it's worsened since they've started handling colossal volume. The commission structure is also very complicated for sellers now, and most people will make less than 50%. They intentionally down the price to pay out lower commission rates. There are like eight different tiers of commissions.

Great background on these sites. I feel that the consignment model leads to lower quality items or increased damage while they are held. Since they don’t own the pieces, they do not have the same incentive to take care of items, which impacts both buyers and sellers. TRR also does not allow refunds on handbags, which really eliminates their incentive to care for their pieces.

They stole my Dior coat! They said it was not real. I sent in the original receipt and an authentication from one of the top licensed companies. I had to get my lawyer involved. Turns out, they lost my coat and used that as an excuse. Then said they had all new people because of Covid. No apology but, was paid (less then I should have been) but, they didn’t not take a full commission. Still had to pay lawyer fees so… I was selling with them for many years and have sold tens of thousands of dollars worth of items. I was treated so poorly throughout that whole ordeal. The "authentication" at VC is a joke. I bought a pre-loved burberry coat (no standard trench) and since it was from a private seller, in my naivity, i chose the authentication. They reached out to me mentioning the issues of the coat that were not in the description - a stain in a not-so-visible place, and the missing coat hanger that was on the pictures. I did accept to get the coat, since I did not care at all about the coat hanger and i could live with a small stain. Then the item arrived and upon the first sight I noticed 2 additional stains just on the front part, so really visible, and a damaged button which was also right in the visible area. I sent it back and requested also my money for the authentication back, since it had been really badly done - so they noticed the missing coat hanger (which was not even mentioned in the description) but did not notice the stains on the front part of the coat.... The would not refund me the fee... then I decided to use vestiaire just for inspo and if I buy, I make sure it's a smaller price point and maybe from one professional seller who also have their own site.
@IamGPS

What's the point of even paying for their "expert authentication" if they can't even spot a stain 🫣

Having watched Autumn Beckman’s video on her latest purchase from TRR, I wouldn’t buy from them; they don’t seem to have an any care or consideration for the items they sell. Sabrina Shekofteh’s video on how they took her bags to authenticate, then misplaced them, is also another eye opener into that Company. I have only bought a SLG from a local consignment store here in Australia only because it was a LE piece I wanted. The item was a full set, unused and is authentic but the process was sloppy and the copy receipt was for my item but a different colour they were also selling. I would be very hesitant to buy a bag this way, too much money to lose. However, I am not bothered about a bargain - I would rather go without than get something inferior.

I will add though regarding FASHIONPHILE that I had one quite poor experience with an item’s description. I ordered a LV empriente pouchette described as excellent and the only problems listed were hardware scratches, and bafflingly, “piling”. Upon receipt I was almost knocked over by the sickening stink of cheap room freshener coming from this beautiful item. It must have been stored in the Glade air freshener factory or doused in some awful air freshener every day since purchase. I tried airing it out, fans, everything I could think of as it really was in perfect condition inside and out (no “pilling” 😂) but the stench was sickening. There’s no way that could have been missed and should have been noted as “perfume or cologne odor” as many items are. I returned it and the item is reposted just as it originally was (I took note of the item number so I could see if this happened). I’m so disappointed as I’ve had good luck to date w FP. When I told them about the stink they just responded that scent was subjective and that’s why they had the return policy. It is a good return policy but they should note a strong odor like this.

This is very outdated information. Size the lawsuit a bunch of new rules were put in place. TRR does have a buy out program for certain items. Handbags are all final sale. No returns. All handbags and high value items are behind glass so only actual interested buyers can ask to see them. Authentication is done by experts with licenses now. And finally All Items in storage are put in dustbags or plastic containers. And if there is damage the company does take responsibility. Which is the most important part.

I used to consign with the Real Real around 2016/17/18 and their commission rate was SO MUCH BETTER back then. I found it really useful and hands off. This was back in the day when a Real Real rep would actually come to your house and evaluate your stuff (do they still do that? I suppose everyone just sends pictures now). Crazy, right?! To just have someone come in and take your items, and not someone from Sotheby's or Christie's or another fancy auction house. I haven't sold to them since then and it has been a combination of their reduced commission rate, hearing stories of them selling fakes (I never bought, only sold to them, but I didn't like that if that's their business practice), and me just curating my items better. I don't buy nearly as many bags, shoes and accessories that I only wear 1 or 2 seasons and then sell. I'm much more discerning now than I was, so I just don't have as much to sell. Having said that, back in the day they were by far the easiest to work with. I didn't have to do much other than make an appointment or get a shipping label and I think I maybe ever had 1 thing rejected and I also sold 5 figures worth of items to them. They were much easier and more accessible to work with than say, What Goes Around Comes around, which I considered using back then as well. I feel like The Real Real and What goes around were the only biggish online retailers for a while now. All the in person consignment stores near me where much better for selling contemporary clothes to and not handbags and shoes and jewelry. In store consignment stores were always very low in commission near me. Having said all that I do have 1 YSL bag that just isn't working out for me and I am considering using Fashionphile to sell this time. But I may sell it on Poshmark. I had a good experience selling a Givenchy bag on Poshmark, but again, I usually use that only for contemporary clothes/bags and it takes a lot more effort than using The Real Real or Fashionphile, etc.

Thank you for taking the time to share your experience 🖤 Back when I dealt with Fashionphile, I was able to submit a quote request online based on pictures. You could always try that with your YSL bag to see what they come back with 🤞
