I was taken SO off guard by PERCY JACKSON The Lightning Thief songs that I'll never be guarded again

When I first saw the TLT musical (the bootleg) I was so shocked that a freaking theater musical had done a way better job at every damn thing than the movies!

I am so happy you're finally listening to this musical! You 1000% need to react to "Good Kid", "My Grand Plan", "Put You in Your Place", "The Tree on the Hill" & "Last Day of Summer", they are hands down the best & most popular of the whole fantastic lot. So, if you enjoyed the musical thus far, you haven't seen anything yet. It gets soooooo much better.

Small bit of context: Percy is 12 years old and got expelled from 6th grade in the first song. All the stage actors are obviously adults but the characters are still meant to be 12. Also I highly recommend the Disney+ Show! It’ll fill in all the gaps you’re missing from between the songs and the story at large.

Great reaction! This musical is definitely underrated. If you like Greek mythology, I would recommend reacting to the cast recording of Hadestown! The show is the story of Orpheus and Eurydice. Its one of my favorite musicals because its the music is unique and the vocals are amazing

22:18 ‘how has no one seen him for thousands of years?’ The kid singing there is Percy’s friend Grover, who is actually a Satyr and not a half-blood - so when he says Pan is ‘sort of his dad’ he means that satyrs in general are children of Pan (god of the wild), but they aren’t literally his kids. In the story, the satyrs have been searching for Pan for generations. There are a lot of environmental themes that tie into this in the books!

Someone else in the comments recommended "Good Kid", "My Grand Plan", "Put You in Your Place", "The Tree on the Hill" & "Last Day of Summer" and ABSOLUTELY seconded, they're really good and popular! but just putting it out there, if you were to listen to the "last day of summer", I think it's best to listen to it at the end, because it has major spoilers for the whole story, and also "last day of summer" hits WAYYY harder if you've at least heard "Good Kid" before listening to it

I think after listening to all the songs from this musical you’ve gotta watch the Disney show adaptation. It’ll provide a lot of context and answer most of your questions. Plus it’s just a really good adaptation. The musical was definitely made with fans of the books in mind and isn’t the best when it comes to gaining a new audience. The show is better about that since it explains things a lot more thoroughly, tho I do recommend reading the books because even the show isn’t super friendly to people who have no idea about Percy Jackson. I’d say it’s still better than the musical in that aspect but the books are just really good and if you end up liking the musical and maybe even the show they’re definitely worth a read through

The musical is unironically my favorite adaptation of the books which is largely due to the soundtrack never really missing. Just be aware, a handful of the songs have a ton of dialog like the first one did

Also, the obligatory statement that if you like this then you should REALLY check out EPIC: The Musical. There are so few people who have done reaction videos to Epic, so you would like have a monopoly over the market.

The way I GASPED when I saw the notification. FINALLY, MORE TLT MUSICAL RECOGNITION! There's a lot of PJO fans who don't even know this is a thing. Edit to say it's always so hilarious to see how close or how off you are to the actual plot 😂 and the cast of the musical is actually so small that multiple actors play multiple roles, like George Salazar who plays both Grover (Percy's friend) and Dyonisus.

It's been almost a year since I've listened to songs from The Lightning Thief: Percy Jackson The Musical! Thanks for popping up with it Matthew. Nice to hear the premise hooked you, especially on the angle of the Greek gods having kids that really struggled with the inevitable neglect.

If you want more music about the greek mythos, I suggest listening to Epic: The Musical. It is not a full musical yet, it is still in its concept stage but the Trojan, Cyclops, and Ocean Sagas are out and it's amazing! Perhaps a video dedicated to each saga is due 👀

I’m just gonna try and clarify a few things: •that boy ‘Charlie Beckendorf’ that Silena was holding hands with probably started growing sunflower seeds everywhere (on his body not just gaining magical abilities) just based on the actual video. •Grover is a satyr, his dad is not Pan, Pan is a god and the chief of satyrs, he went missing long ago. •the halfbloods are not forced to go to camp it is just a safe place for them to be (most of the time😅). Some half bloods go to Artemis’s huntresses instead and some don’t go at all (which in most cases gets them killed before even knowing they were half bloods) they are usually brought there once they learn their a half blood (because it’s more dangerous once u know) and some stay all year and some stay only in the summer. •most people (even some of the mortal parents of demigods) in the regular world DOES NOT know that the gods, demigods, satyrs, stuff like that are real because stuff like that is hidden by ‘the mist’ (which few mortals can see through). I hope I explained that stuff okay, I love these vids❤️!! and if you make any more videos on this I recommend… Put You In Your Place (cause you haven’t even met Clarrise yet and that song is such a bop) Lost! Strong, Good kid, and Lost(In the Woods) are some of my favorites from this musical. All of them really 😅

Percy Jackson is played by Chris McCarell, an actor who has been in several Broadway performances, including playing Marius in Les Miserables (on Broadway, not original cast). I saw the original cast of the lightning thief a year before the pandemic in Seattle WA when it was on tour. Unfortunately, it's Broadway run was extremely short post pandemic. Unfortunately, you NEED to do more hit songs like Drive Good Kid (one of the best songs) D O.A (very disco) Put You In Your Place

I highly recommend the songs "Strong" "My Grand Plan" and "Lost!" from the musical, though really not gonna lie all of the songs are bangers, and I highly recommend taking the time to find animatics for them so it's easier to visualize

okay, to answer some of your questions: the day i got expelled: - yeah, percy was just going to a normal school at the beginning - the line about not having done anything wrong is in reference to the day of the field trip, so he wasn't lying :) - he did get in trouble regularly, partially (like here) because of demigod stuff - there's something called the mist that keeps (most) mortals from noticing magic, so when something happens, percy would inevitably get blamed - percy and nancy bobofit are in 6th grade, so while she's still a bully, it's not _quite_ as bad as going after kids 10 years younger than her; and percy having been kicked out of 5 schools before actually means he's been expelled every single year camp: - half-blood is actually a neutral term, it's just a synonym for demigod - camp half-blood (also in new york btw!) is one of the few places half-bloods are safe thanks to the wards keeping out monsters, they also get trained there to help them stay alive - yeah they're sunflowers of the "nature nightmare" variety :') - "give me ares or apollo" in this case is just referring to their kids, not their domains ^^ - satyrs are all "children of pan" because he's the god of satyrs, but he's not actually grover's father :)

The musical is FULL of references to the books. That first animatic you watched has a TON of cameos from other major characters, and Another Terrible Day also makes reference to a lot of the books plot

Funny enough, the musical was the more faithful adaptation of Percy Jackson that we had up until the new series that just dropped. We do NOT talk about the movies.

If you haven't heard it yet, I can really recommend the songs that have been released so far from Epic The Musical! :D It's about the Odyssey and it's sounds so freaking good already! My favourites are "Just a Man", "Warrior of the Mind", "Remember Them", "Keep Your Friends Close" and especially "Ruthlessness"

Funny thing, the "Child of Pan" is a satyr, his name is Grover, and while Pan is the fatber of his species, he's not his biologist dad, he's an ancestor, the first satyr. Also, the guy who plays Grover, also plays Dionysus! His name is George Salazar and he's AMAZING❤

The tree on the hill is my favourite from this musical. But I’m a sucker for songs that give side characters a lot of depth. (And George Salazar is iconic).

PLEASE WATCH MORE OF THIS SHOW!!! There are so many great songs and I Need you to learn more about Percy Jackson! The books were my childhood the musical is so good! Also, explanation of some things, Camp Half Blood is a camp made to protect halfbloods from monsters that is watched over by Dionysus and Chiron the centaur, and Grover, Percy's friend, is a satyr which automatically makes him a son of Pan, god of the wild, so that's how that kinda works. Some good songs that I would suggest are Good Kid, Put you in your place, grand plan, I'll be back next summer!

Here’s a little lore that I’m sure other people have mentioned by now that could help give you some context: there’s no “full blood” camp to separate the half-bloods from. Those would just be full blown Gods. All the campers at Camp Half-Blood don’t know they’re half-bloods until either their parent comes and tells them or they get attacked by a monster, and then they get brought to camp where they can grow up and learn in safety away from the outside world.
