And I thought that remote issue was just me and some unresponsive apps, but I deal with that a lot and usually for me just closing the app and then reopen it makes it work
i have an older one with the mouse pad with where you can scroll but sometimes this would happen to me it wasn't the subtitles but i couldn't exit out of the movie i didn't have subs on
You only receive FaceTime notifications on the Apple TV if your phone is currently connected to it. If you answered on the tv before having your phone connected the caller would just have a silent black screen for a while during the phone set up process. I use FaceTime on my tv all the time without issue.
The static that you are experiencing is a TCL televisions issue, not Apple TV.I’ve had my tcl and Apple TV since like 2018 and it’s a glitch that occurs when the tv has to handshake with the Apple TV when switching between 2 different types of hdr content, I’ve been dealing with it for a while. Instead of having to unplug your hdmi, just try switching inputs on your tv back and forth. This usually works for me
I’ve had a similar issue but not static, it’s just black. If i turn it off and back on it’s just fine or unplug the hdmi. It’s the newest one on a lg tv
Yes! I have some issues with my TV but I have a LG TV. The funny thing is that my apple tv actually fix the issue 😂 the tv is so unresponsive that I can’t turn it off with the tv controller but if I turn my apple tv off then it will turn off the tv and it will reset. It’s because the tv goes completely black and unresponsive. Can’t even go to settings.
Phone remote also freezes. It’s like the Home Screen needs to respring itself before you can navigate back to home, restore normal remote/phone remote function, close apps, resume activity.
I have an A15 and can confirm that the trackpad lock happens to me too. Not often, but enough to be annoying. I have not had the static, but RU-vid will go to a blank screen for a second every time it goes to an ad or comes back from an ad. My last and most frustrating issue is with the audio. I have 2 HomePod mini speakers that connect to the Apple TV (I know, not the best audio system in the world). Very regularly, if I switch to a different HDMI on the TV (my Nintendo Switch for example), the audio pass through feature (or whatever it’s called) just won’t work. I have to go back to Apple TV, system, restart, and then I can go to my Switch and have audio work. I also very regularly get intermittent sound distortion when using my Switch.
Hello, For you problem try to (enable CEC and ARC mode) on your TV MENU, and verifiy if you HMDI PORT is in the right port (HMDI ARC) its written behind you tv. I have also two HomePod mini and They wont connect as DEFAULT SPEAKER to the Apple TV , i get an error message (airplay), i tried RESET Apple TV RESET HomePod (both) RESET all my wifi network, even my iPhone, and it didn’t fix the problem. I think there is a big bug after updating to OS 17.4, i hope apple will fix this with their next update.
@arturoehr I did the same too because the black remote was cracked cause of dropping it so much but the new remote only lasted me for about 6 months due to battery problem I would charge it and then the next day or 2 it would stop working unless I plugged it in using its usb c charger threw it away and now still use the old cracked remote 🙃 😅
I have the same Apple TV as you do, Drew. The trackpad locking happens every now & then. The workaround is you hit the Home button on the right to show what you have open & then go back to the app you were just on & it’s back to normal. As for your tv freezing, I think it may be the tv itself & not the HDMI cable. My bud had that issue back in ‘22 & after his wife upgraded the tv, it went away.
I just upgraded the 4K from 1st Gen to 3rd Gen. I haven’t installed it yet. I been wanting to so I can use the eARC on my TV and the Apple TV sound will work on everything. If I still have the same issue I’ll try resetting my TV again (I had to last year) and see what happens.
Had this same issue same model trackpad just goes crazy and scrolls in loops with lag. I have the newer model in the bedroom no issues. Had to restart the device to make it stop 3 weeks and no issues yet will keep updated
Had the same problem you have to lower the video quality in settings and turn off hdr and just do standard. My tv which was a 4k roku would have static on RU-vid and other apps and just freeze till I lowered the settings
I’m still using the Apple TV HD from 2015 with the A8 chip and haven’t had any glitches. Even bought the new remote for it later on and the scroll wheel and trackpad still work perfect with it.
I have an issue where my IR blaster inside the ATV will stop working for a month and then come back out of the blue at some point. Also yeah the tracking and stuck apps is 💯 real.
I really hope you see this, but try turning off ARC functionality. I think there's a tech-wide issue with how ARC data is communicated between HDMI connected devices.
No FaceTime issues, no static, but frozen controls however I use my phone and the remote app stops working even closing the app and reopening doesn’t fix it. I usually have my wife use her phone or find the physical remote when it happens. FYI this happens on every 4K Apple TV I have 6 Apple TVs from 4K gen 1 to gen 3 they all do it. But still worth the annoyance.
I’ve had the remote issue quite a bit. And every other time I turn the Apple TV on, my television doesn’t detect any input, so I’ll have to restart them both. I’ve swapped HDMI cords but still get the issue. And it never happens with my PlayStation, so I have to think it’s the Apple TV. Oddly enough, I never get the static issue, but I did with my Roku.
I don’t have any of these bugs…. On my Apple TV HD from 2015 😛. Think it has an A11 Chip and of course the old “slippy” remote but no issues… I don't watch a load of content on it but a good few hours a week with no issues.
Have you tried using a different TV (Brand)? I‘ve heard that certain Models/Brands don’t play too well with an ATV sometimes, sadly especially budget ones I got the same ATV, been using it with a Hisense TV and it’s working great
Is it supposed to show up on the TV even? I use it faithfully every day but I always get a prompt on my iPhone to switch it to TV. I feel like it would be a little too much to have it start ringing on the TV until they ship them with onboard cameras.
I experience the same thing as you, the atv works perfectly 30 consecutive times but on the 31st the screen doesn’t display anything and the “no input detected” message appears. In my case I do a powercycle and it fixes the issue. It only happens on my atv 4k 1st gen with the A10X chip, I have another atv 4k with the A12 on the living room and that one has been flawless, never experienced the no display issue.
I have 2 apple tv 4k models in the house. Had them for about 2 years now. The A12 model and the new model both connected via ethernet. I don’t have any of those problems.
I dont have apple tv, but i have roku & a firestick. 2-3 times a month, its best to reset or restart your streaming device, cause your cache start to eat at the memory & also start messing with the remote & if the remote start acting crazy, its good to disconnect & reconnect the remote.
I have the cheapest version of the newest apple tv and I haven't had issues, but to be fair I haven't used mine that much I mostly use my Macs, and my iPads. but I wouldn't have a clue, for I haven't had any issues
yes i have but if you reboot the apple tv before hand it will work fine the tv should be rebooted once every 2 weeks do not leave settings opr tv app open that will reproduce the bug I confirmed this
Never seen that bug on my latest Apple TV 4Ks (gen 3). I have three of them in my home now, one for each TV. Maybe Apple’s latest chip was their solution to everything. I mean, if you have a fast and sophisticated enough chip, that handles video really well, what else do you need? You’re done! There are techno geeks complaining Apple has been slow to include an AV1 chipset. The latest Apple TV 4K doesn’t have one, but it doesn’t need it. It runs AV1, as smooth as silk, through software. WORKS FOR ME! Roku doesn’t support AV1 at all. Neither does Google Android. This all became painfully clear to me when I tried playing several movies from my home server that were loaded from Blu-ray discs. NOPE-NO AV1 SUPPORT-TOUGH LUCK, SUCKER!
Not fair to say "no other tv box has these features". Any Google tv device does all that with a single remote controlling audio and TV devices. Apple is just using the control over hdmi standard. As long as your tv and sound system supports that standard, it will work with apple TV, Google tv and others.
So I just bought the brand new Apple TV 4K so I can make all my Tv sound good through my HomePod Mini. But I will report back if the problem still is happening
I see you're starting to realize that Apples software is becoming laggier and buggier than ever. iOS 17 has been a joke with all of the bugs. So was 16. Garbage OS
The FaceTime on the TV is literally a huge feature on Servant (Apple TV+ show) and yet you say it basically doesn’t work in the real world is kind of hilarious 😅
No it’s not just you. My Apple TV 4K second generation will behave very strangely, mostly with the RU-vid app. The microphone on the remote won’t pick up what I’m saying, and if I leave the RU-vid app open when I turn off my tv, the next time I boot up the Apple TV I can’t do anything in tvOS. The entire operating system freezes so I have to unplug the Apple TV and plug it back in. So annoying. Waiting for Apple to release a new tv so I can upgrade.
I do have the very same issue with the static first of all when the Apple TV just goes black on my TV and then 3-5 secinds later the HDR appears up top and then the image comes back and I can proceed on watching the content. I changed the HDMI cable with a better one but still no difference. Usually the remote itself bugs out when I am inside youtube and I cannot press to go back on a previous window from youtube’s home screen for some reason but generally that is it.
I’ve ran into the remote problem. My trackpad works but my arrow keys don’t, I’ve had it going on two years now but still. I just use my phone to control it now.
I upgraded to a third gen Apple TV 4K from my first gen one and went right back to my first gen one because of this issue and many others. First gen still going strong
I can't explain the main issue you are seeing but the volume buttons are operating the device they are intented to function with using Infra Red directly & not via the Apple TV itself, that's why they still work even when you are seeing other issues. I've seen the opposite where everything else works on the remote bar the volume buttons & a reset of the remote fixes it.
Love my Apple TV but Roku is super under appreciated. They have a super cleanOS and they let you clean up the Home Screen really nicely where as Amazon fire stick and google chromecast your just over whelmed with ads everywhere. Looks like somebody through up on the Home Screen. The new Roku remotes also charge via usb c, backlit buttons, and have a speakers for lost remote finder via app, voice hands free. Got three of them for the fam in the house but I still stick with the Apple TV myself. Only pet peeve and not letting me delete default apps
Could be the Apple TV OS. I have an early 2020 MacBook Pro and there was a bug with video playback from services like Disney plus. If I watched a movie or show for 30 minutes, the playback would stop because I would run out of ram. I watched that ram usage and over time as I was watching the show, my ram would slowly but consistently go up until it capped and closed the video player. Very weird but it later was fixed. Pretty sure it was from a Mac OS update
That’s a Disney thing on every single device I own… they don’t know the concept of developing an API that does PAGING… and they end up chugging the ram and processor with all those many titles coming up at once, I own pretty much every tv os there is today… fire tv being the worst… google tv’s do the same but not as bad, Roku same but little better no idea why (all of them top specs and latest models) Apple TV 4K 1st gen tho and it works better but I’ve seen that same behavior) Disney really messed that up
I have an A12 Apple TV in my bedroom and an A15 TV in my living room. I’ve never had any bugs or problems with the new one, but sometimes on the old tv (the A12) the back button stops working while every other button on the remote works. The only way to fix it is by unplugging the TV box from its power source, plugging it back in and turning it on again.
FaceTime calls don’t pop up for me either, I also have a weird bug even on the A15 version, where the remote will constantly disconnect, not react or react slowly, not far away from the box at all. and also just like you it sort of acts like the ram is full and it’s lagging, and only a restart helps (temporarily mind you) …
So an update: I’m using the same Amazon Omni TV, the same HDMI cable (but not port - i switched to my eARC so all my tv sound comes from my HomePod) and the Apple TV 4K 3Rd Gen hasn’t had this problem yet. Maybe tvOS has some sort of glitch on the older hardware?
TIP: to restart the remote press the tv button and the minus for around five seconds (if this dosen’t work try re pair) TIP: to force restart the Apple TV press the tv button and back button for around five seconds
I’ve only had an issue with RU-vid where when I start a video the video and audio will often cut off for about an exact second then resume. It’ll also do it that at the start and end of a ad. My assumption is something to with the HDR/Dolby video setting. Im on a LG C1 OLED if anyone else had that issue.
I have a big issue with two HomePod paired in stereo, they wont connect to the Apple TV AS DEFAULT SPEAKER, it show a message airplay error, i reset Apple TV and both HomePod , reset my wifi and everything and nothing change anyone have an idea ?
We have two Apple TV's with the A12. Both work great. The only bug we have is sometimes (about 4-5 times in two years) volume doesn't work which requires a reboot of the remote. This only happens on our LG, so I suspect it's a problem with LG as our Sony doesn't have that issue.
Apple TV on my iPad Pro m1 always switches the sound to English if I start a show or a movie no matter how often I switch it to German. Even if I close the app while watching an episode and resume watching the same episode later I have to switch back to German.
I have the Apple TV 4th (aka the HD) and with its decade old A8 chip I’ve not had any problems with software and or hardware. I think Drew’s problems are with the Max and Disney+ apps in particular. I think they just need to be better optimized.
I use an A12 and A15 Apple TV (multiple rooms) and I haven’t had any issues but on the A10x Apple TV I def have had issues but that’s more of a performance thing. But my A15 Apple TV with 2 OG HomePods WITH eArc it’s 10/10
Apple TV is crap! They bricked mine and told me the only way tofix their mistake was to buy a new one. To many better options out there and my AppleTV is now a target on my plinking range. Never again will I purchase this particular Apple product and will be very wary of their updates.
The only reason I don't have an Apple TV is the lack of safari or third party web browser. I watch stuff off the browser specifically often that isn't replaceable by an app so until Apple adds that in I will have to live without the smoothness of tvOS.
I have the same Apple TV and lots of bug too… with the remote… with the virtual remote on my telephone… so many bug with the RU-vid app… very bad experience lately!
I honestly wish Apple would buy paramount and Philo and or dish to create a really great tv experience … I have cut the cord but I really miss the ease of cable but I think Apple could do a better job at the entire experience
Smooth as butter here with my Apple TV 4K Wi-Fi (3rd gen). So I have the model with an A15 chip. No problems! 😊. Love my Apple TV! The only way I watch TV!
Dude I had no idea there was an app switcher on the Apple TV this made the video for me! Your A12 atv shouldn’t be having issues like this, sounds like a but that should get ironed out in an update. Have you reported it?
