It takes empathy, bravery and a strong sense of justice to confront the truth. Those who ignore or dismiss the truth are afraid and self serving and are lacking in the basics and fundamentals of compassion. When we know better and different we can be better and different.

What truth..what justice. Killing an animal to eat it and now you bring religion into it making it seem that religion is wrong. If killing is the situation....you like grass when you cut it to eat it. You kill att fruits to eat them. How do you know trees don't feel pain when you pick their fruits. That are an extension of the tree there fore alive. Do you have more morals because you eat vegetables and I eat meat.

@elizabethelias1005
@elizabethelias1005 6 месяцев назад
@@hannahmitchell87 It was thought provoking. I didn't buy into the conspiracy that "they" were out to get him. I am confused about the supposed mistranslation. The NT was written in Greek. The word they say that was mistranslated is a Hebrew word. The Greek word means robbers or, I can't remember the other meaning, but it's not murderers or violent ones. The Hebrew word they say was translated incorrectly can mean 2 things. One is robbers the other is murderers. Like I said the NT was written in Greek not Hebrew, so this movie is confusing with regards to that. They seem to have used the Ebionite version? Which would be Hebrew. But, from I was able to find out, that wasn't written until much later. I don't know. I did like the movie, it was emotional. I think people who don't really know much about Christianity and Judaism may be more confused than me, or they may buy into it because they don't know anything. I happen to be Jewish and know a bit about both religions.

This is symbolic of greed. It also says don’t cast your pearls before swine also. What are pearls? Well think mother and children. Everything is done in parallels and parables and riddles. That said disobedience led to famine like the word but you don’t need a script. You need a heart and mind and the chesed of יה which is mercy and compassion. We are here because of disobedience and we are given a command then we are tested. This is threaded throughout the to-rah. It was originally encrypted so it could not be tampered with like children. Like goats. Goats don’t know when to stop until it is too late. They will eat until their bowels explode hence Judas I. Fish relate to children babies hence why you have schools. You can see a mimicking of this everywhere in many things. SODOMising animals is not normal it is bad husbandry.
@Harvest_Hangouts

Oh you have no idea what they are capable of! I have been run off the road with a baby, my sons being held hostage because you are threatening major business and secret societies. That said the character of יה is compassion and mercy and because of disobedience and famine you eat death but command was given then you are tested. It’s simple. You don’t disobey the command. Animals came first and we are meant to be good shepherds. Shepherds don’t fk the flock and kill them. They keep watch and guard them. That said as I have commented the to-rah was encrypted so it can’t be tempered with.

I've been invested into story-telling (and its criticism) for about a decade before I went vegan and got interested in ethics in general. One thing I learned is that people are generally just not convinced by facts, and need to be convinced emotionally before they actually make a change, that's why I think it's absolutely fair to criticize these kinds of documentaries for not being that effective. People also just simply don't like being pandered too, and with that I honestly believe making a documentary with a more seemingly neutral attitude might be more effective. Exploring the subject of eating meat within religion IS interesting on itself, and I do believe any honest exploration of the subject without any dress up will probably convince people to reconsider eating meat. Veganism is hard a idea to sell because there's no fun exciting angle to take on it, but I do believe that having people actually engage with the subject at all is going to push them in the right direction because the facts are already as convincing as they are. Trying to dress it up in a "2000 year old conspiracy" definitely sounds like a turn-off to me. For whatever documentaries I have seen, trying to dramatize it often has a very counter-productive effect. It's better to let the audience be an observer rather than telling them how to feel.

I thought cowspiracy was very well made in terms of a storyline and being very engaging. It had a really nice flow to it. But this film, even though I agree with all the content in it, somehow didn’t flow well as a narrative. This information about Jesus being a vegetarian was revealed to me years ago when I used to pray alone in the woods and live like a hermit. I did some digging on my own. I could feel the guidance through signs and symbols in this direction. I was guided to the Essene Gospel of Peace and thought Jesus was an Essene. To me it was obvious that the scene in the temple is a spiritual allegory of Jesus cleansing our body (temple) of all animal slaughter and making our body/mind into a house of prayer. A lot of these points are obvious to me about Jesus and what he taught. I am in the church, but was raised Hindu and also practiced Buddhism and shamanism- to me they are all different paths with the same goal and same essential core. It is clear that so many people in Christianity are confused as heck and lost and just following some authority figures. They don’t pray and get the answers from within- they prefer to have an outside authority to tell them what to do or think. Regardless of my filmmaking opinion, I hope this film reaches people

Not gonna lie, this vid is great because I don't really want to watch it but I'd like to know if it is a good idea to recommend it. I'm already vegan and I know that it is the most spiritual / ethical stance. IDGAF if Jesus was vegetarian or not, and I don't need to know that to know that Christianity is hell of a patriarchal mess and the concept of dominion is central to it. But I was wondering if my grandmother (that is quite a Christian worshipper) would get some value of this in order for her to be more in peace with my ethical choices. Maybe I don't need to try to convince her, at least not through conspirative films.

Edit: sensational describes the right styliastic rhetorical flaw of Christspiracy, but hyperbolic is absolutely the wrong word to describe the film. No aspect of Christspiracy is hyperbolic, unless Kip really was not being followed or had his place broken into. I dont put that above organized religious groups but if im wrong, im a b*tch *ss. I agree with many of Hancock's critiques but I really disagree with the characteristization of hyperbolic conspiracy and the disconnect or "lack of focus" between the overarching message and the stories of oppression in the film. The teachings of Jesus are directly related to equality for all, and the philosophy of veganism. I see a dosfferent interpretation of the desgree to which they implicated specific actors as directing the conspiracy. It was actually covered up during the early church councils, by the teachings of Paul, and by the overwhelming institutional cultural cover up in the roman world and christendom waaay back in the day.

Hancock is a die-hard atheist and probably believes Jesus never even existed. I saw the movie and it was incredible and convincing in every way, I saw zero fault with it. Then again, I always knew Jesus loved the innocent most of all -- animals and children. I also was aware of the Bible's deliberate corruption regarding animals (and reincarnation), as well as the spin regarding the Cleansing of the Temple, referring to the "moneychangers" and how Jesus died for "our sins." I agree with the critique of the conspiratorial nature of these documentaries, but the way I see it is that there have been instances where animal rights activists have been targeted and even murdered so it's understandable there would be some conspiratorial thinking. I still want to see the film because growing up Christian and reviewing passages from scripture after becoming vegan I have seen evidence for God being depicted as someone that cares how animals are treated. This is more clear if you are Jewish because there are passages in the new testament that say you shouldn't judge people for what they eat and stuff, but Jesus also says "Aren’t two sparrows sold for a penny? Yet not one of them falls to the ground without your Father’s consent. But even the hairs of your head have all been counted. So don’t be afraid therefore; you are worth more than many sparrows” which is an acknowledgement that even tiny creatures like sparrows are valued to a certain extent by God. So, there is some affirmation of at least the concept that if you are going to eat animals it should be done as humanely as possible. You can make a good case that Christians should be horrified by the current standards in animal agriculture.

I read the transcript because I have no sound atm, but as I understand it, the issue you’re highlighting is one of honesty and vegan activism. It mirrors an issue commonly brought up to criticise effective altruism - short sighted consequentialism that brings the movement into disrepute/causes long term harm. Negative utilitarianism doesn’t have a fixed time horizon before which it evaluates consequences/utility. In any case, I think that the films scriptural interpretation part is more than fair. Occams razor, jesus’s core messaging and the basic premises underlying eg christianity (compassion, altruism, love), and some biblical source criticism makes the case being presented in the movie imo a mostly accurate intepretation of scripture. The temple cleansing scene was a bit over the top though. But what I’m trying to say is that interpretation of scripture is 1. Inherently noisy because of early christianity having multiple authors of the bible, some of which hadn’t even met hesus, and some of which were in active disagreement which each other (paul calling James and others ”weak of faith” for not eating meat, despite James et al actually having had been around Jesus). At the risk of sounding sacrilegious (lol) the part about Jesus eating fish that you mentioned is from a passage under dispute. 2. Far more poorly supported interpretation being accepted all the time. Why can’t this take on the bible join mainstream discourse? The practice of giving saints supernatural ability and involving them in prayer is dubious to say the least. But we can’t argue for Jesus being compassionate not just to humans?

Just from a theological perspective... 1. Mark 8:7-8 7 "And they had a few small fishes: and he blessed, and commanded to set them also before them" 8 "So they did eat, and were filled: and they took up of the broken meat that was left seven baskets" This passage shows that Jesus fed the multitude fish. Now this passage does not address whether or not Jesus ate the fish, but what it does do is show that he advocating the eating of fish. I only post this to address the Christpiracy claims regarding Jesus. Now a passage that is even more directly in contradiction to the claims of this documentary regarding Jesus, is found in... 2. Luke 24:42-43 42 "And they gave him a piece of a broiled fish, and of an honeycomb" 43 "And he took it, and did eat before them." I know that the religious aspect is NOT the topic of this video, but merely to address the conspiracy side of the documentary... Jesus, at least according to the Bible was not a vegan. Now if the question is did Jesus catch those fish himself, there is a passage in John 21 that points to the fact that he himself caught the fish they ate. Regardless, these verses I've displayed above, at the very least, have him complicit in the eating of fish. So the conspiracy competent of the doc is not coming from a place of being well informed.

Why would you not want people to see this film as your title suggests? For a person of faith it could be a turning point for them to become vegan. We want more vegans correct? Correct?? Also for the atheist or non-Christian this gives you more to use to convince people of faith to become vegan. There is something intellectually dishonest with how you present your subjective opinions and many times you aren’t sure you even are sure of your opinion. But you ARE sure people don’t need to see this film. Also, you take the time to save face a couple of times and kiss up to Kip. Yuck. I appreciate what you are doing for animals but this video can’t be ignored for being irresponsible. As a vegan I can recommend everyone see this film. ✌🏻

Literally no one else made this claim besides him. There are a ton of activists on youtube that also watched it, such as myself and didn't get that impression. Hancock failed to mention that private detective uncovered actual government documents from the process of Discovery via the FOIA (Freedom of Information Act) that literally showed they are being profiled. As an activist that was also profiled and had a case stacked against me before a targeted "snatch-and-grab" arrest, I can say with confidence this is and very likely was done. The paperwork even appears on screen clear as day... Hancock also failed to mention that the ties between the Church(es) and Big Ag isn't just some fast food chains donating money... It goes all the way to the Halal and Kosher certifiers themselves. It's systemic and institutional not just some chains here and there donating a little money here and there. Strange @Humane Hancock doesn't mention that. Last thing, as someone that is extremely relieved the film wasn't some huge bible lesson and had a ton of captivating and humanistic interviews, I feel that's what makes this film such a powerful piece to help to bring about the end of animal ag. I had no idea how they would pull off speaking to as broad of an audience as I knew they needed to, but they did. In large part because of the criticisms mentioned in this review.

You are missing that Netflix is only 3% of the world’s population. It seems large, but it reality, it’s not good for the long game. Seaspiracy got 100s of millions of views, but Netflix allows for no call-to-action at the end of the film in the credits, and no retention of viewer data to follow up with resources to make real transformation. This is a major loss. We are fixing this gap with Christspiracy. We truly feel it will be the long game with lasting results. Plus, I can guarantee that the large majority would have found Netflix version sleepy/boring and wouldn’t have moved the needle much. Blessings.

I agree with some of the points made here. For example, the part about eating roadkill seemed extra. It was presented as an ethical way to eat animals, but not really discussed in any depth. Some of the other things you mention seem more like personal preferences to me. Like when you said another movie doesn't have the things you didn't like about "Christpiracy." Just like with other forms of activism, there isn't one right way to do it. Different things resonate with different people. And, like you said, it's hard to know which alternatives will convince non-vegans (the people we want to convince). On a different note, I wasn't as moved by the dog meat trade as I was by another part of the movie where I almost cried seeing how unfairly we treat cows. A friend I brought to the theater who isn't vegan went to the bathroom to cry after the film. So, in my opinion, the movie was a success. I hope other non-vegans can be moved like that too.

The film is a failure. You need incredibly competent fact checkers, honesty and integrity. Only one problem is enough to make the whole film fall flat. Inferring Jesus was vegetarian without conclusive evidence and without a 'conspiracy' means noone, who needs to be convinced, will be. This type of cringe sets the movement backwards
@kameronwaters5337
@kameronwaters5337 5 месяцев назад
While there is evidence as conclusive as it could be, given the 2000 year time gap, and relentless suppression of key materials, that’s not even the central focus - to stop at the notion of Jesus (Yeshua) and his brother James the Just, John the Baptist, and the whole Nazarene movement just being “vegetarian”, and as the crux of this film, is to fall short of the point. He and the Nazarene movement were full on direct action animal activists - so much more than a “diet.” I assure you the facts have been checked, and there was the utmost integrity with the research. I understand it being unbelievable due to the long history of false narratives and translations that have been disseminated over time, but time will tell… and the truth will prevail. For all beings. 🙏🏼
@kameronwaters5337
@kameronwaters5337 5 месяцев назад
And just to be clear: the evidence IS conclusive in that I can show you multiple instances of ancient textual evidence where Jesus directly refuses animal flesh, and tells/teaches others to do the same. Also, while I’m here - appreciate the condemnation of the film as a “failure” - it only adds fuel to the fire to keep pressing towards its continued success, for the animals and all. Blessings. 🙏🏼

@Cancellator5000
@Cancellator5000 5 месяцев назад
@@GarudaLegends From what I gather the film and the directors aren't claiming that Jesus was vegetarian or something, but that he cared about animal welfare. He did say “Aren’t two sparrows sold for a penny? Yet not one of them falls to the ground without your Father’s consent. But even the hairs of your head have all been counted. So don’t be afraid therefore; you are worth more than many sparrows” showing that god values even small insignificant creatures like sparrows. Not to the same extent he cares about humanity, but clearly he wouldn't be ok with blatant mistreatment. Another one is the significance of the donkey and colt that Jesus rides being brought to him together. The prophecy just said he would ride on a colt, so why would he ask for both of them? Jesus did everything intentionally with good reason. It turns out even then there were animal welfare standards regarding separating colts from their mother. That Jesus could ride the colt beside the mother means that he wanted to keep them together for way longer than was legally required. Compare this kind of treatment with modern animal agriculture and you start to see the major problem with the way we are currently treating animals as if they're nothing. The standards back then were pretty lax, but today they are even worse.

And how many of them will leave the theatre with a more negative perception of veganism? From everything I've heard about this film it sounds very unlikely that it's going to convert any significant number of people to veganism. On the other hand the narrative suggests to me that it will reinforce the "vegans are crazy narrative" People seem to forget that these types of films can really turn people off veganism instead of converting them.

Very honest analysis and i pretty much agree. It is hard to know what's right about vegan filmmaking (as far as how to move the ball forward). Also, it's just to be expected that a series of films named "_spiracy" are going to focus on the conspiracy element, which i believe is certainly real, though they probably overly hype it with the worrying for their lives (but i could be wrong). It's clear when an industry literally outlaws photographing their practices that this is a massive cover-up operation with billions of dollars being protected by keeping these secret. I think the word conspiracy has gotten this ridiculous negative vibe to it, as if conspiracies aren't a very real part of how capitalism and politics operate. We can thank a certain three letter agency stating with "C" for starting that one, and the useful idiots for the rest (I've noticed that when i use the actual name, these comments are often deleted... Call me a conspiracy theorist). I'm not saying we should just assume everything is the result of conspiracy, but certainly, a lot of the bad things in our society are upheld by them and we would be remiss not to take these "theories" seriously

I was getting ready to disagree with your review after seeing the film myself, but you made some really valid points and many of your favourite aspects of the film were the same as mine. I agree that the hyperbolic/sensational aspect of the film is probably going to turn off many religious carnists but I had another thought while watching your review. As someone that was raised in the Catholic Church I have seen the value of a central religious/spiritual base and the good work of religion. Of course there is some pretty awful stuff done in God’s name too but I feel most religions have a central message of being kind. More and more I have felt like religion is too far behind calling out unethical practises by human beings. It is really nice to consider that the figure of Jesus was ahead of society in this aspect of kindness as well. It has certainly given me a sense of hope for the Catholic Church and other religious institutions that have turned their back on this moral emergency. Maybe it will cause some new thinking for many people in religious organisations in turn. Thanks for your honest review. I enjoyed and appreciated your thoughts.

In my opinion religion is not giving us a good moral baseline, but rather the other way around. Specifically the catholic church is not only now behind in moral progress like you mention, but it has a history of being behind. Once they have finally caught up they claim the credit. They used to be okay with slavery, the crusades and the inquisition, but once there is a consensus those things were awful it was suddenly their message all along to love thy neighbor. Now they claim God rejects same sex marriage but you'll see that in the future they'll claim it was fallible people in the church that just misunderstood God. It will be the same thing for animal rights.

The highlight of the movie for me was the mistranslation of the story of Jesus at the marketplace, but I don’t know if it was "revelatory" enough to set as the climax. It did bother me that they tried to tackle like 5 different religions in like 100 minutes. They should've stuck just to Christianity because it felt like it was only scratching the surface (which they did say at the end, to be fair). The general style of the documentary threw me off, too. It felt sensationalized, but I think a better word to describe it is "American", if that makes sense. I felt that to a lesser extent with his other documentaries as well. The church going after them didnt feel entirely believable to me either. But who knows? All in all, mixed feelings about this movie. I should see it again to gather my thoughts more coherently.
