So I have a bit of a confession to make.
I’ve never seen Fight Club.
Or rather, I had never seen Fight Club until very recently. Oh sure I knew about Fight Club and had heard it’s a great movie and book. I knew the memes and the references thanks to the wonderful world of the internet. But I’d never really looked into it nor had I ever really cared to actually watch it. It wasn’t until recently that I felt like I actually wanted to see this cult classic to try and understand what all the hype was about.
And boy oh boy was I completely unready for what I was walking in to.
Fight Club says so much without running its mouth. It reveals a part of the human psyche and lets you dwell on the implications without being preachy or too full of itself. It speaks on society and masculinity in a way that most stories seem to avoid these days. It felt raw and it felt real.
But I’m getting ahead of myself.
In this video I want to look at some specific aspects of the Fight Club movie and its Philosophy. I want to try and deconstruct what this movie was trying to say and why we should consider listening.

What a fantastic movie, I'm pleased you've seen it! When I first saw it as a teen, it was just an awesome flick, with a great twist. Amazing how perspectives change with time.

Great analysis! I think if you haven't seen them Vanilla Sky and Rules of Attraction(James Vanderbeak in it) are movies I put right next to fight club of movies with complex messages that can be fun to delve into and analyze.

Interesting fact, the book's author, Chuck Palahniuk, is a gay man. When writing the book, he was deliberately making commentary on masculinity and the absurd lengths most men will go to affirm their masculinity. The message of Fight Club is not that men should not talk about Fight Club, but that men should talk about their feelings. Otherwise, they could be manipulated into committing acts of terrorism. I learned that from James Somerton's video on Attack on Titan and Media Literacy. Highly recommend that video in particular. It does spoil the show and manga, so if you want to wait, that is fine.

It's honestly profound just how on point his message is, and how often it seems to be almost reaffirmed since the books release all those years ago, albeit was happening long before the book.

Oh boy, wait until you learn that you are still at the first layer of this movie, there are theories out there that EVERYTHING that happens in the movie isn't even real, not just Tyler (and the evidence presented is quite convincing).

Oh snap. I'll definitely have to rewatch it
