Krell is hated for the exact opposite reason that Plo Koon is loved. “Why General? Why kill your own men?” “Because I can. Because you fell for it. Because you're inferior.” Vs “But we’re just clones. We’re expendable” “Not to me”
That there is SO sad when you take Order 66 into account. Krell probably could have survived the order if he wasn't found out and killed during the Umbara campaign. Poor Plo Koon though, shot by his own men while flying a starfighter. The clones might not be expendable to him, but they also didn't have a choice in the matter. The whole inhibitor chip thing is tragic, honestly.
@@TheTrytix that’s why I wonder what they thought of after the inhibitor chip was deactivated? In rebels we can see Wolffe, who was Plo Koon’s commander, and his inhibitor chip was deactivated. So what happened to him? Did he hate himself? Did he hate the Empire? A bit of both?
@@Boba_Fett_Bounty_Hunter Wolffe was definitely not his old self in Rebels. I wonder if his paranoia was partially due to a feeling of guilt over Order 66.
2:58 The umbarans can breathe air, they just have helmets that pump in air full of airborne simulants to keep them drugged up and energized in battle It’s why later on in the arc, Rex mentions an umbaran ‘not having any juice left in him’
the battle of Umbara was the equivalent of the Vietnam War to the clones since the Umbarens blended in with a lot of their surroundings and were extremely hard to see especially with all the fog that the planet is covered in
I wouldn't say it was equivalent. The VC and NVA didn't just blend into the surroundings, but normal civilians as well, so you couldn't tell who was the enemy. And the clones were gaining land, not gaining people. Imagine if they did though. Like, if they did the Onderon arc, but with Clones against the locals or something like that. That would be brutal. Edit: I realised I sounded like an armchair general writing this.
8:40 Keep in mind, "This Clone" that you mentioned was Tup. Incase you forgot, Tup is the same clone that had his chip activated prematurely. He the proceeds to Execute Master Tiplar, one again, point blank to the face! That's ether one incredible coincidence or some next level foreshadowing from Filoni.
Idk why but that episode (Season 2?) Where they just lift him off the wall and shows them falling gracefully while Rex is flailing and screaming is so funny to me. Like he's so serious, but only when he's in control XD.
I have three.favorite parts from these episodes. 1. Rex saying "These are men" why defending the clones 2. Dogma being the one to kill Krell 3. The clones heartbreak after they killed each other.
The reason that Umbarans wear those strange space suit looking outfits in the lore is actually because the gas inside is a mixture of stimulants and drugs to heighten their abilities in combat. Literally every warrior on their side was the equivalent of a weaponized meth head on hyper speed crack. No wonder they seemed so crazy.
actually the umbarans can breath air..i think the helmets just dispense some sort of battle drug to make them fight better..not only because there is a umbaran senator walking around on coruscant with no helmets..but also the clones, obi wan, anakin, and pong krell walk around without helmets no problem
You have it exactly right the Umbaran warriors pump a battle enhancing stimulant to make them more violent, remove hesitancy, and improve focus on the task at hand
I was about to say the same, Why would the Umbarans need environmental suits on their own planets. Plue we clearly see Umbaran senators in other clone arcs breathing the same air as other species.
I remember throughout this arc I was conflicted about Krell for the first half of his appearances, I was conflicted between hating him and thinking that he's just a really strict Jedi. Honestly that's how I think the clones would have felt, either to think that their new general was just bad or really strict
3:59 I also used to think that the Umbarans can't breathe air but the helmets actually pump the soldiers with a chemical that boosts adrenaline and aggression
This whole arc was amazing start to finish! You could really see the creative team was given a "blank check" to go all out with season 3 and beyond. The amount of violence and adult themes in this arc, and later ones, goes to show this cartoon, while targeted at kids, was really for us adults who wanted to see more clone wars fights. The first couple minutes when the invasion first starts, and all the music just stops, leaving you with the gunships engines and blaster fire, will always give me chills. The calm before the storm.
So the canon explanation for the size of his lightsabers is that he was wielding 2 grainy sabers which have bigger handles and blades for bigger people. Where yoda used a secondary blade, which is small than you main saber, because of his size
(Correct me if I’m wrong) I’m pretty sure a Yoda’s lightsaber is known as a Shoto-lightsaber, which is much shorter than a standard lightsaber. And I think Krell uses something akin to a lightsaber-club/lightclub
@@evanlight2550 yes Yoda’s blade is actually meant to be a secondary saber to your main saber. They are typical smaller and lighter, and the handle is smaller. But with Yoda’s small stature it fit him well
My girlfriend and I had been watching the series (me for the 4th time her for the first) I was so excited for her to get to this episode, she cried her eyes out when they took their helmets off 😩👌🔥 Classic clone wars.
When i first saw Krell i loved him. I thought him being ruthless was cool but when he started threatining the clones i really hated him. The way he just killed them without remorse was just horrible to watch. Ngl i think i started to cry :P
Dude, the scene where it was revealed that Krell forced the 212th and 501st to kill each other was… heartbreaking. Especially since it cost the life of Waxer, one of the OGs from the first seasons. I already disliked him but at least it seemed like he was using them to get the job done, whether it cost lives or not, but that was the last straw (just like with the Clones)
About the guy who trips and falls dramatically. I imagine that in the heat of battle, when you probably don't entirely know what it is that just hit you. So he may have just tripped but in the moment he probably wasn't sure if he just got shot. Imagine the panic. I'd probably do the same in all honesty.
8:00 Gotta gain their trust. Plus it really was wasting time for him. Letting a couple of clones die to wildlife would not get him favor from Dooku. But forcing a battalion to fail to capture a key military installation or kill other clones would.
8:40 you can tell that whenever Cartoon Network came knocking to make sure Filoni wasn't going too far, he always had a playlist of select episodes that were more family friendly, and kept the rest of the episodes (which most of which are seen as some of the best imo) hidden in the back closet and pretending they didn't exist.
Pretty Brutal how in 17:27 we see the rocket launcher fall beside Rex. There were at least 3 clones prior who died holding that same one. We saw that one guy get wounded from the caterpillar thing and Rex gave another trooper the rocket launcher. Rex woke up when it was like pretty much his turn to die if he had to take the weapon
They actually do have the Geneva Convention in Star Wars. It’s called like the Yavin Accords or something. Obi Wan mentions it in the unfinished Crystal Crisis arc
Pong krell uses two double bladed saber staffs. That is why the blades are so much thicker and why the handles are much longer. They are very similar to the saber staff of the Jedi temple guards.
You don't really get to appreciate all the hard work that the creators put into this show to make it so amazing and detailed, so thanks for making these videos, absolutely love them, please keep making more!
Interesting fact about clone armor (Im pretty sure from what I remember. I might be wrong): Near the start of the war they wore Phase 1 Clone Armor. Very sturdy and strong, so when a clone was shot by a blaster bolt, it'd spread the energy across the body. That would save a lot of clones, as the shot wouldn't exactly kill but instead knock out clones. But it was very uncomfortable. So in the Phase 2 armor, it was made more comfortable, though at a cost of protection. Clones in Phase 2 are probably dead when they shot. Oh and Phase 2 had more modification abilities and better tech, I believe.
In fact, the Umbrians can breathe without helmets (otherwise they could not have evolved) the gas in their helmets is actually a mixture of different gas to dope them in combat
Ion cannons don’t k usually kill but at a high enough power the can with I-9 disrupters from rebels. Come to think of it, that probably what happened to Zeb’s species, so ouch.
Dude I thought that Krell was such a badass when they first introduced him to the show. He kept making weird decisions and I kept thinking why does he have it out for the clones. Then I saw the final episode of this arc and it all made sense. Such a pos but such a cool character as well with his dual dual-bladed lightsabers
I also recently rewatching the umbaran arc and it was still as heartbreaking and hate filled it's even worse when I knew what krell was doing. Also another thing that I realized was that hardcase sacrificed himself so that his brothers could live to fight another day, just for Jesse and fives to be court marshalled and executed by the soldiers they fought for. (If they did it) Gut punching realization. *It's a KiDs ShOw* bs
Umbarans ARE actually able to breathe air, as seen in Palpatine's close associate Sly Moore, and senator Mee Deechi. The masks and gases that are in them are made to help the soldiers stay awake, basically like a constant supply of gaseous coffee, so they would be more effective in battle and be able to carry out their surprising ambushes.
From the ep the main memory is when Rex showed no mercy when he shot the enemy not once but twice @ 16:50 that was one of the most savage moments in clone wars😂😂
holy shit, I just noticed that if you look closely at Krells lightsaber in the scene where he puts his blade up to fives face you can actualy see that his hilt is folded and that it unfolds when he ignites both blades.
7:27 I thought his kind of jedi were cool because he had 2 saberstaff 8:01 and the original tatic for that scene was multiple sneak attacks around that base but Krell forced them to go straight down a path with no cover 8:45 That clone is Tup the same one that killed a jedi And that Caterpillar tank has 25 gun turrets and the Battle of Umbara is the equivelant of Vietnam
7:30 At first sight i loved Krell, Mostly because he reminded me of Grevious and that was cool, but once I saw his character of how he treats his men i instantly just hated him.
He’s similar to how Grevious treats his B1’s, the difference is, the B1’s are quite literally made to be expendable and half their reason is just for comedic relief, Grevious just further ads to it This guys just a POS
The first time I saw Pong Krell I didn’t watch all the episode so I thought he was so cool. A Jedi with not one but two dual-blade lightsabers was super cool. I already loved Maul so now that I knew a “good guy” could have one I was so hyped
If anyone really wants to know, Head Hunter has a counter for all the deaths in this arc. Actually it's the entire season 4 of the clone wars but you can watch the part for just this arc if you want.
One of my favorite parts was the clones standing up to Krell Krell: You’re making a mistake by crossing me, CLONE. Captain Rex: it’s Captain, SIR. Fives: In case you haven’t noticed Captain Rex saved this platoon! Surely you won’t FAIL to recognize THAT! Krell: ARC-5555 STAND DOWN.
Oh the Umbarains are able to breath air, but they’re suits of armor actually mix combat drugs into the air of the helmet to give them better combat effectiveness
this reminds me of the story of Aimo Allan Koivunen, a Finnish soldier who served in the winter war where he survived for two weeks on nothing but pine bud soup, water from the nearby snow, and 30 pills of htem (spell ‘htem’ backwards and you’ll get what I actually wanted to say, but couldn’t because RU-vid)
FINALLY OMG IM SO FXING EXITED bro micheal i love your videos, i love ur content and what you think of the star wars universe i think i can say confidently your the most relateable prson on youtube for me, keep up the great work, and know youll always have a fan here 😘
the reason clones (and also stormtroopers) go down in one shot is because their armor is made to disperse the energy from the blaster bolt all throughout , which can prevent death, but the shock incapacitates them.
although the effect for clones is likely more durable as a whole for the purpose of active combat and or warzones.or rather the armor specs out into a few other resistances like explosives
@@Aventrixmusic fair enough. although Clone armor itself is more generalized for the battlefield where as stormtroopers have alot more protection from blasters.
3:59 I also used to think that the Umbarans can't breathe air but the helmets actually pump the soldiers with a chemical that boosts adrenaline and aggression
Fun fact, Matthew Wood voiced many cone wars charicters , some including : general grievous, every battle droid, the senate guards , mandelorians , poggle the lesser , wat tambor and the commando droids !
Fun fact: Those green Umbaran blasts are to show off the power of their weapons. Generally red is weakest, blue is second weakest, then purple when facing something like starfighters, but usually very expensive to produce. Green was usually the very best and the only reason the Umbarans have these? Their planet is rich in the special type of ionized gas that can produce them. They are also basically Space Germany mixed with Space Vietnam. A mix of guerilla tactics and Nazi WW2 blitzkrieg. Why blitzkrieg? Their soldiers were incredibly hard to ambush because they were constantly juiced up on space meth. The Umbaran soldier on the ground wasn't begging when his visor got cracked. He was shouting Umbaran curses and snarling at the clone for daring to break his perfect Umbaran equipment and ruin his fun slaughtering clones.
Woah, I just realized, the smoke trail coming from the Umbarans when they take a shot to the face isn’t just from the bolts, but also because the glass on their masks are broken in the process and that air is leaking out.
Slowly over the course of the episodes you can see the effect of krell on rex and the clones especially with executing the umbaran fighters and the wildlife. 10/10 episode
More ideas: - Battle of Kamino (Clone Wars) - Second Battle of Geonosis (Clone Wars) - Battle of Teth (Clones Wars Movie) - Space Battle of Scarif (Rogue One) - Attack on the Malevolence (Clone Wars) - Battle of Saleucami (Clone Wars) - Battle of Malastare (Clone Wars) - Space Battle of Yavin (Ep. IV) - Sky Battle of Quell (Clone Wars) - Space Battle of Endor (Ep. VI) - Battle of Ryloth (Clone Wars) - Battle of Mon Cala (Clone Wars) - First Battle of Felucia (Clone Wars) - Space Battle of Bothawui (Clone Wars) - Battle of Sullust (Clone Wars) - Battle of Lola Sayu (Clone Wars) - Second Battle of Felucia (Clone Wars) - Battle of Kiros (Clone Wars) - Battle of Dathomir (Clone Wars) - Battle of Takodana (Ep. VII) - Battle of Starkiller Base (Ep. VII) - Battle of Crait (Ep. VIII) - Battle of Exegol (Ep. IX)
So the umbarans are actually able to breath the air because they’re just humans, the reason they have those helmets, and why there was gas leaking out when fives elbowed him, and why there’s only smoke when they’re hit in the head, is because the helmet is filled with a special gas that acts like steroids. They take these normal humans and advance them for relatively cheap
Also you may have noticed Pong Krell’a lightsabers have a deeper sounding hum instead of the usual one so it’s a nice detail that they added in to add more diversity to the lightsabers.
5:07 it looks like the one who died right on touchdown was some form of XO/CO as well, considering it looks like he was wearing a pauldron. so if so, that squad would've been sent into immediate disarray upon /landing/ simply because their CO just got absolutely fucking destroyed
The real world equivalent of the umbaran tanks are railguns. Basically there’s two prongs that when timed correctly, produce a magnetic charge, propelling whatever the ammo is down the rail and out the “barrel” at insanely high speeds. The Umbaran version looks more electrical than magnetic.
The interesting thing at 8:55, that’s not just any clone, that’s tup, the one with the damaged inhibitor chip, I know because of the tear painted on his helmet
BTW the reason blasters kill people is that the energy from the laser fire is absorbs into the person, which kills them. This is why blaster fire from further away has a lower fatality rate while shots from much closer have a much higher fatality rate; it's to do with the amount of energy that the laser still has. It's also why one of the lasers in this battle went through a clone when shot at point blank range, and why a laser is partially deflected during the second battle of Geonosis
So fun fact about the Umbaran soldiers. They can breathe from their planet's atmosphere. The gas in their helmets is a drug concoction that keeps them ready for battle, makes them hyper aggressive, and enhances their reflexes
the guy that shot the Umbaran in the face after throwing him on the ground was Tup, the guy that killed the jedi later in the show because his chip went off early
This ark was one that always stands out in my memory, and now that I'm older and can process more along with being fond of A LOT of the 501st named clones, it hits 10 times harder seeing them be treated like that by krell and the war
this is easily my favorite battle in all of the clone wars in my opinion. it's so good, ive probably watched it 30+ times, and done my own analysis on battle tactics and stuff
Yeah I remembered thinking Krell was just going to be one of those classic military hard asses who ends up being right in the end and coming through with the strategy or experience. Did not expect him to turn on everyone
The Second battle of geonosis and the Battle of Jabiim along with hypori were some of the worst bloodiest battles in the clone wars During the battle of Jabiim the GAR lost 27 Jedi and around 9,000 Clone Trooper The battle of hypori had six Jedi killed along with a unidentified number of clone troopers
