Since 2010, Panathinaikos had some terrible extremely difficult years. The team was struggling financially and was close to relegation in 2018. Furthermore, the team was out of european competitions for 5 consecutive years due to poor performances and hadnt played in a group stage since 2016. Althought things are turning better. Panathinaikos won the greek cup in 2022 and last year they lost the championship in the last matchday, the first time they challenged for the championship since 2010. So, if you take all those things into consideration, you can understand why the fans were cheering even after the loss. Panathinaikos, after being so many years outside of europe, was so close from being in the champions league group stage and was back in a group stage after 7 years and. This is a success and a return to normality for the most successful greek club(in Europe) and the fans are loving that

Panathinaikos fans were waiting for the club's comeback for years , because from 2010 to 2020 it was really sad to see your club being won by unknown greek clubs and being almost at the bottom of the league . I am from Greece , I dont support any team , and I have got to say most of our clubs have " the best fans" . Also keep in mind that this game happened a couple of days after a sad death of a football fan in Athens so the security was strict and not many people could carry pyro to the stadium . BTW you missed a big chance on AEK Championship winning match ( I was wokring as a security there ) , it was in their new stadium and they also won the cup so you imagine . Some other basketball matches between Olympiakos and Panathinakos have great atmosphere aswell! Thank you for visiting Greece!

I have been a Panathinaikos fan since birth and I havent been in the legendary OAKA since I was 6 years old(10 years ago). I went in the match vs Braga and it was mental. I watch all the Panathinaikos games and it was really unfortunate not to qualify for the UCL. I hope you had fun with the best fans in Greece!

Heres a story about pana. When my family and I went to greece the ucl and uel qualifying games were happening. AEK Athens and Dinamo Zagreb were about to play ucl qualifying game, But just before that disaster struck and because pana and zagreb are sister clubs, pana and zagreb fans came together and ambushed some AEK fans. One croatian brought a knife and slashed an AEK fan causing Michallis Katsouris to die of blood loss. The problem was marsielle and AEK are sister clubs and the marsielle fans were pissed. Many french were spotted with weapons before Panathinaiakos' game with marsielle. It started an uprising in Greece and the only good thing was that aek beat zagreb with their players celebrating their goals with lifting the black armband. I support Olympiacos and when my dad and I went to an OLY game the atmosphere was crazy aswell because greek fans are crazy good at supporting their club. Many players have been celbrating their goals with signs to Michallis and I wish his family the best. Sorry for it being long.

If you want a recommendation of a great game with an insane atmosphere here in Portugal, I would suggest the Minho derby between Braga and Vitória or any Benfica away game. It Will blow your mind. Fiago although AS Roma are having a bad start in the season, I still highly recommend watching one of their games at the stadio olimpico. They're energy and chants are unbelievable and always go crazy with the flares.

Panathinaikos has the best fans in Greece and the loudest. They are also passionate and follow the team in every game in all sports. Probably the best atmosphere in Greek stadium you can have experience. Then is PAOK Toumba stadium and then all the others.

Fiago , if what you saw that day was great, in leoforos during a derby is even crazier. The stadium being smaller helps making the atmosphere scary for other teams. I would recommend coming for panathinaikos vs Olympiacos, the biggest derby in Greece.

Although not a PAO fan myself i can easily say from experience you didnt even get the biggest atmoshpere . Due to the recent episodes that lead to the death of an AEK fan (PAO ultras help D.Zagreb ultras get illegally into the country) there was so much police and restrictions , hense why most away fans dont risk coming to greece cause the streets in the whole city of Athens are a turf war. In Derbies Vs Olympiacos who are their biggest rivals is where its at although it mostly always ends with tragic endings. Small clear up , the home stadium of PAO is actually named Apostolos Nikolaidis but it has gotten the Leoforos nickname (avenue in eng) since it sits right on Alexandra's street/avenue . Lastly thank you for supporting a club from our country and i hope you didnt get caught up in the others club/political episodes , unfortunally to keep the tradition of football we have to carry the burden of countless lives lost , many more being beaten stabbed exc and the whole hooligan stuff , dont get me wrong i adore the brotherhood in our football culture cause its unique to us greeks but in order for that to exist the cons will always be there.

You got to go to an Alemannia Aachen match at some point. Even though they only play Regionalliga(4th division), their fans are worth at least 2.Bundesliga, averaging at 15.000 people each match. It is just an insane feeling in the Tivoli(their stadium)

I'm not really supporting anyone in our league, I think it never matters anymore, but when it comes to european matches I can not be more excited. Seeing this beautiful stadium absolutely packed is really heartwarming. It has double the capacity of any other in Greece and three times the seats of Pao's own stadium, thaat gives you an idea of how much people want our teams to go far in Europe. It should have been the home of the conference league final in my opinion, but Rammstein took really good care of it

Me and almost everyone in Greece are unsafe when we wear a Panathinaicos, Olympiakos, PAOK or AEK shirt. So, if we want this amazing atmosphere, we need to stop violence.
