I Watched *Your Name* and It Broke Me 

I will NEVER recover from the fact that Taki knew that he might never see her again, that he might fail, and that they would forget each other, and instead of telling her his name he HAD to tell her HE. LOVES. HER!!! I'm fuck*ngggg cryingggggg!!! 😭

I love that the film opens with Taki and Mitsuha as adults, talking about how they both feel like they've lost something important. This helps the audience to get into the same headspace as the characters, since we also don't know what they've lost.

I remember hearing someone say "Miyazaki makes the magical feel like the everyday while Shinkai makes the everyday feel magical" and I think this film is a great example of that.

Glad you Nick liked this movie! A cool note about the sharpie-handwriting scene: Taki wrote "すきだ" (I love you) and Mitsuha wasn't able to finish writing her name...but she actually wasn't going to write her name in the first place. You can see that in Taki's hand is a long horizontal stroke which isn't how you would start "みつは”, the first stroke is short and to the left. You could argue that she was going for "三葉" which is the Kanji equivalent but its unreasonable to write the second character in what would presumably be a short time. In other words, she was actually going to write something else that starts with a long horizontal stroke...There's not many characters that fit this bill, depending on your handwriting style, but the character す will always start with a long horizontal line in any handwritten form. Which means that she was probably intending to write "すき" (I love you) herself. 10/10 moment.

Your Name is a classic. It's truly amazing how anime can change people's perspectives and affect their lives. I wish I could erase my memory and watch this movie again.

I love how this movie depicted the concept of "dream" so well. When you dream, sometimes, you forget almost immediately when you wake up. Despite how hard you try to still remember it, it will fade away easily. Interestingly, it's not impossible that we might have done something important in our dream, but we just forget it

When I first saw it I cried for more than an hour... And idk why, right when I stopped crying I rewatched it 7 more times and was crying every time... I love this...

There is a real lake that is the model for the lake in this movie. Lake Suwa in Nagano Prefecture. In the summer, it is famous for its fireworks festival, where pyrotechnic artists compete to see how well they can set off fireworks.

This is my favourite anime film of all time. I love a silent voice but this film for me is something else. When I saw Mitsuha open her hand for it to say “I love you” broke me the first time I saw it and it has done everytime I’ve watched it since. Your Name will always have a special place in my heart

The reason why taki write "i love you" instead of his name is because in japanese forclore, they say time can take off your memories, but not your feelings... Thats why, they always know like they are searching for something

Fun fact in weathering with you movie, Taki and Mitsuha has a cameo scene and in the novel ver, they were a married couple after Tokyo flood😭

The writer of this movie asked them to make songs based on the story just for the movie! And ever since, Radwimps makes every music for the movie of this writer Makoto Shinkai. This film makes me cry every time. Especially the scene on the ridge. I highly recommend Shinkai's other movies like Weathering With You and Suzume. Fun fact: the line Mitsuha was writing on Taki's hand is a motion she wouldn't make in writing her name. So she was going to write "I Love You" too.

I absolutely love this movie. And the twist that they are also time traveling is done perfectly. Another animated movie you should look at is Howl's Moving Castle. It tackles war, conscientious objection, pacifism, self-esteem, and belaying your dreams for family.

The voice actor of Taki is just principal actor on the movie Godzilla-1, Ryunosuke Kamiki.

This has been my favorite movie for years, the art and foreshadowing alone, like how the movie literally starts with the comet falling but you still don’t see it coming because you forget about it, they even show you a bit of the scene where they spoil that they will forget eachother and where she gives him the bracelet, the first class topic being about twilight being a magic hour where you’re able to see something that isn’t quite there, the grandma saying “you’re dreaming aren’t you” proving its time travel since he’s able to immediately wake up in bed instead of out where mitsuha is in his body since its not actually the same time, I literally notice something knew every watch and that is part of why its my favorite movie of all time

I got a chance to see this in theaters and it was amazing!

”Weathering with you“ was great, „Your name“ was emotional, „A silent voice“ made me sad but ”I want to eat your pancreas“ genuinely broke me. Made be cry for the first time in like 10 years. I think they made like 3-4 adaptions of that story it’s that good. The table scene… man.

7 years have passed since the first time I watched it and still I can guarantee the best movie (not just anime movies) I have ever watched in my life, along with Interstellar and A Silent Voice

Oh my gosh man I got chills too at 23:15! I was like you and predicted 2 min into the movie that they were body swapping but the REAL twist came at 23:15 and blew my mind! Such a brilliant movie. Also, 27:10 was one of the most beautiful things I've seen in any movie in a long time, the scenes plus the background music was magical.
