Scrapyards, some say these are the epicenter for getting a deal... and after today I certainly have to agree. Where we go through some places that are quite far out of Taipei and look to see what PC parts they have - mainly motherboards and Hard drives, since the other parts, like CPUs and GPUs are usually melted down for rare metals.

Sadly a lot of times people throw away PC's simply because their OS isn't working like it did when it was new. My neighbor threw away a perfectly good laptop a few years ago, one that was socketable and about a 2013 or 14 model, and the ONLY thing I found wrong with it was Windows 7 was completely locked up from viruses and junk/malware etc. He had stuff pilled up in his truck ready for the dump when I happened by and offered my help. I instantly noticed 3 printers, several old TV's, two computers and a monitor thrown in his truck along with lots of other junk. I took the printers (all sold together on craigslist for $100) and kept the laptop and monitor and upgraded it with Intel wireless AC and a SSD + more ram and a much faster CPU. Total upgrade cost was about $70 considering I already had a spare Samsung 840 Pro SSD. The stuff people throw away jeez. Oh, and my Father just threw away a HP 7520 AIO printer all because it had a paper jam (not joking).

I used to get everything like this too. Furnished a home with stuff people discarded once, complete with two workstations. I had so many computers too, which I fixed and gave away.

Workplace at dominos is upgrading the computers on the 3rd. I’m gonna score 2 core2duo hp computers (ain’t much). They were a bit slow in the store but those fuckers were never cleaned out.those will be caked(and are) in dust. I think a clean up and they will run fine for some old PCs. I don’t expect much from the gpu because they would mainly need the cpu power from just running programs not too intensive(just under strain during heavy loads)

It's insane when u think about it. I got two Server Computers with ivy bridge Xeons cause they "didn't work anymore".... On one, the sata cable of the Hdd was lose and on the other the PSU was dead. So i got two dual Xeon Systems for free.... When u think about the fact, that those Processors were about 1500US each back in the day... PRETTY LUCKY DAY

Here in the Philippines there is a huge market for surplus computer components and systems. Almost all of them come from scrapyards and recycling centers like this, with most of them originating from Korea, but parts from Japan and Taiwan can also be found too. There are thousands of internet cafes and businesses that run with imported computers or systems built with used components. From motherboards, power supplies, graphics cards, laptops, monitors, peripherals, you name it. Almost anything computer related that's used can be bought. You can pick up a used mining RX 570 for around 70-80 USD, motherboards from 775 to 1151 for 30 USD, or even a 500-600w power supply from a name brand such as FSP, Seasonic, and others for around 12 USD or less. Now these may not sound that good of a deal to those who watch this channel on a regular basis, but take note that there are so many shops here in the Philippines that sell these components making them extremely accessible and readily available. Even those who live far from Manila (Where most of these shops are) can order them online via Shopee or Lazada (Equivalent to Ebay, Amazon, Aliexpress) for the same price plus maybe 1-2 USD for shipping.
@rencm04
@rencm04 5 лет назад
Where is this market?
@MashedPotatonator
@MashedPotatonator 5 лет назад
@@rencm04 Ah sorry. When I meant by market, I mean that selling used computer parts is a big business in the Philippines. But to answer your question, there are many shops all over the country where you can buy parts. Places such as Gilmore are a good example. However, the best deals can be found online on Tipidpc.com or Facebook Marketplace. I would suggest looking online first before buying as that's the way to get the cheapest prices.

A note for the kingston life time warranty. It is covered as long as they still have available ram sticks to replace them in stock. I had a conversation with one of the warranty guys on the phone, they did also replace an old DDR2 1gb 800mhz ram stick that died on me from an old pc. They will ask you to send in the faulty ram stick also, but I didnt have to since it was DDR2 and they just wanted to get rid of the last few sticks they had.

I was in Taipei city back in 95. It’s amazing how they have dedicated areas arranged in several blocks with common electrical items such as cables, motors, electronics and so on. It's nice to do if you are handy, as you can work at your own pace and often get all the little odds and ends that usually get thrown away, like interior pieces or something as simple as a hood prop. Sure you could buy new but why when you can the fully functional OEM one for 1/4th of the price.

I got an old PC from a scrapyard recently but they're actually not allowed to sell or give out anything. Still on the lookout for proper places that sell PC junk in Austria, all I know of is a center that already resells old electronics which I haven't checked out yet.

Almost the same motherboard I used to have, it was GA-P55A-UD3 and difference is, it has mosfet heatsink and it's P55, where as that L version doesn't and is H55 chipset, despite having P55 ini the name.

I usually go to a recycling center for pc parts, only just that i find really old parts (K6-2s and Pentium 3s). Yesterday i spent 2$ on a Athlon 64 3500+ and a am2+ board, but both turned out defective. I would like to know a place like that in Bucharest.

I'd love to go to a dump site and check the electronics part, but, unfortunately, they're all off limits here. You can come in and dump your stuff, but if you go and search in it they'll send you away right away

If you're willing to put some time and effort into it, you don't need a lot of money to build a great gaming rig. Just a couple of hundred dollars, patience, and ideally an online 2nd hand market with an app that can give instant push notifications when someone puts up for sale something matching your search criteria; the best deals go fast. If possible, an extra couple of hundred dollars that you can "use but not ultimately spend" will help a lot too. That way if a great deal on eg. a better GPU shows up, you don't have do hurry/rush selling your current one to free up the cash to buy "the new" one - but instead you can use those extra money to close on a good deal quickly, pay for the "new" one, then put your old one up for sale with out the rush. When sold, you recuperate the expense. If you're in a hurry to sell, you rarely get a good price. This way, you also always have a full, working system. Once you've reach a point where you're satisfied with your build, you can put those "extra" flex-money back whence it came - savings account, pay back if you loaned them etc. I started out 2 years ago with a handed-down rig for simple gaming, with a i5-750, a gtx 670, a 1TB hdd and 4 gigs of ddr3. By buying and selling on 2nd hand market, buying at super prices, selling for a bit more, injecting a few bucks here and there... Having injected maybe $250 into this "revenue", today I'm sitting with a 4790k on a Asus Maximus VII board, 32GB ram, a gtx 1080ti, a big custom loop watercooling ordeal with mostly EKWB parts cooling both GPU and CPU, a 2TB ssd, 1200W corsair PSU and a 34" 1440p ultrawide monitor. All 2nd hand, from "buying low and selling high", writing good, descriptive ads, and buying "box of parts" with lots of goodies that are easy to resell, taking what I need and selling the rest for a profit or to break even after gaining the part(s) I needed for myself.
